Obituary - Mary Wareham

Mary Wareham, age 80, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at her home in Clinton, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton, Missouri. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00AM prior to the service. Inurnment to follow in Vansant Road Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri.

Mary Anna (Roberts) Wareham was born on September 20, 1941 to Orval L. Roberts and Etheal Mae Tullis.

Mary graduated High School in 1959 from Calhoun, Missouri. Mary married William D. (Bill) Moomaw on October 3, 1959 and to this union three daughters were born, Brenda Sue, Lorrie Ann and Christina Kaye.

Mary was baptized on May 25, 1975 at the Allen Street Baptist Church and later joined Northeast Baptist Church in Clinton. Mary was a homemaker, and worked as a telephone switchboard operator, and worked as a Hairstylist for over 35 years. She owned and operated her own salon, Scissors and Clippers for many years, then working in area shops until retirement.

Her hobbies included crafts, reading, flowers, spending time with family, bowling league, dancing, birds, and sewing. She married James (Jim) Lee Wareham on August 7, 1993 at Northeast Baptist Church and he survives of the home.

Other survivors include her daughters; Brenda Smarr of Deepwater, Missouri, Lorrie Engel of Clinton, Missouri and Christy Foster (Joe) of Warsaw, Missouri. A stepson, Jim Wareham, Jr. (Kym) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, two sisters; Shirley Meyer of Clinton, Missouri, Betty Ross (Hal) of Clinton, Missouri, one brother; Orval Lee Roberts, Jr of Clinton, Missouri, 6 grandchildren; Dustin Smarr, Amber Collins, Nathan Smarr, John Kyle Engel, Kelsey Ballew, Kaitlyn Ballew, 4 step grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Etheal Roberts, a brother Bob Roberts, 2 sons-in-laws; Charlie Smarr and Johnny Jim Engel, 2 sister-in-laws; Laverne Roberts and Barbara Roberts, and her nephew Perry Witt.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Bates County Nostalgia Band kicks off concert in the park tonight

The Bates County Nostalgia Band enjoyed its first summer evening concert in almost two years, tonight Monday, June 27th at the Butler City Park Quad Shelter.

The Bates County Elks Club was on hand with refreshments for sale and their Flag History Presentation.

The band helped kick off Fourth of July festivities with a program of patriotic and American music. Future concerts are planned for July 25th and August 15th.

Obituary - Dallas LeRoy Yockey

Dallas LeRoy Yockey, 84, Nevada, MO, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. Dallas was born on May 18, 1938, to Bassett Earl and Violet Marie (Austin) Yockey.

Dallas grew up in Cedar County and graduated from Eldorado Springs High School. He lived most of his adult life in Nevada. He worked for Maynor Bread in Butler, MO, drove a truck for Guy’s Foods in Nevada, and worked for a time at Guthrie Motors in Nevada. In 1968 he started Yockey Motor’s where he operated a car lot and also a gas service station for a time. Dallas operated the business for 50 years before retiring in 2018. Dallas had a love for ice cream, was a cowboy at heart with a love for horses, and enjoyed collecting many things including antique cars and “hotwheels”.

Survivors include his children, Jeff Yockey, Nevada; Shawn Yockey, Nevada; Candy Yockey (Slade Williams), Nevada and Cory Yockey, Nevada; three grandchildren, Zack Yockey, Springdale, AR, Kira Brown, Springfield, MO, and Drew Yockey, Joplin, MO; his sister, Gladys Coleman, El Dorado Springs, MO; his brother, Robert Yockey, Bolivar, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Austin Brown; two brothers, G.D. Yockey and R. C. Yockey; and a brother-in-law, Dean Coleman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with Ray Dean Scism officiating. A private interment will follow in the Love Cemetery in Cedar County. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Those who wish may contribute in Dallas’ memory to Love Cemetery or the University of Kansas Hospital’s “No one Dies Alone “program in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Clinton Middle School hires new math teacher

The Clinton School District is excited to announce that Amanda Blackwell is joining the Clinton Middle School team as a math teacher.

Mrs. Blackwell actually began her teaching career as a Clinton Cardinal 14 years ago when she was a CMS Discovery teacher. 

Since then, she has taught at Green Ridge and Sherwood, where she spent the last 10 years teaching multiple math, history and computer classes. Amanda has also been an adjunct instructor for Central Methodist University.
 
Amanda holds a master's and educational specialist degree from the University of Central Missouri.

Amanda has a beautifully blended family with five boys and two bonus daughters. The family has lived in Clinton for over 20 years, and have been involved in multiple community events. They enjoy traveling, camping, hiking, and spending time together. Amanda's major hobbies outside of school are crafting, photography, and running. 

She is a proud St. Jude Hero and Ambassador, running races and raising money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. She is currently preparing to participate in the Berlin, Germany marathon to raise money for the hospital.

"I’m excited to bring it all back to where it started with my teaching career right here in the nest! It will be a grand adventure working with some amazing colleagues and students! I can’t wait to continue learning with my students here in Clinton!"

Obituary - Lanette Anne McInroy

Lanette Anne McInroy passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2022, at the age of 38. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend.

Lanette was born in Nevada, Missouri on February 13, 1984, to parents Randy and Sandy Wallace. She was a 2002 graduate of Nevada High School where she was active in band and tennis. 

Lanette married Zach McInroy on October 25, 2003. They created a family together and continued to reside in Nevada. Being a mom to Molly Mae, Eli Zane, and Oscar Konner was one of her biggest joys. She was always creating memories by baking in the kitchen, making crafts, having sleepovers, caring for their pets, or going to park. They spent many weekends together traveling in their RV and exploring destinations near and far.

Lanette was compassionate, kind, and big hearted from a young age. It showed early on in her passion for animals and as she got older she found that healthcare would allow her to share her gift with others. Lanette worked as a registered nurse in the Behavioral Health Unit at Nevada Regional Hospital. She was also a talented baker and showed her love for family and friends through delicious cupcakes and cakes.

Lanette is survived by her husband, Zach, and her children, Molly Mae, Eli Zane, and Oscar Konner, all of the home; parents, Randy and Sandy (Price) Wallace, Nevada; sister, Lindsay Douglas (Josh), Springfield, MO; parents in-law, Rick and Geri McInroy; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and special friends.

A Celebration of Life service will he held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022 in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Father Peter Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the McInroy Scholarship fund for her children through Ferry Funeral Home.

Runaway juvenile from Miami County Kansas

The Miami County Kansas Sheriff's Office is asking for the publics assistance in locating Nora Adelyn Moore, 13 years old, who left her residence in the area of 247th and Metcalf Rd today around 1pm and has not been seen or heard from since. Her family is concerned for her safety.

She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with purple lettering and black shorts. If you see her, please call 911.

Sad news from the Belton Police Department

The Belton Police Department regrets to share the passing of Sergeant Harry "Butch" Halbasch on June 23, 2022. Sergeant Halbasch served four years with the United States Air Force before joining the police department on March 15, 1967.

During his career, he saw the police department grow from a four person staff. He was promoted to Sergeant on July 15, 1972 and Detective Sergeant on March 5, 1990. Sergeant Halbach retired from the department with 44 years of service to this community on October 7, 2011.
