Obituary - James "Jim" Tillman

Jim Tillman, age 84, passed away on June 24, 2022 in Scottsdale, Arizona. After a difficult couple of months, Dad died peacefully at dawn.

Jim Tillman was born September 18, 1937 in Clinton, Missouri as the oldest son of Carl and Margaret Tillman. Jim’s sister, Linda Wilson resides in Urich.

Jim and his wife Elaine enjoyed moving back to Clinton in retirement where they were active in the community and at the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton. Jim was a volunteer with Hospice and the Senior Center and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Jim and Elaine met at the University of Missouri and married shortly after graduation in 1959. Jim was an engineer with an active mind and warm heart. After serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army for four years, Jim enjoyed a 40-year career in the asphalt paving industry in several engineering and management roles, living in Aurora, Illinois and Santa Ana, California for many years. They have two children, Rob and Carol who currently reside in Scottsdale. While he loved returning to Clinton, Jim and Elaine moved to Scottsdale in 2021 to live closer to his children.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine, his sister Linda, daughter Carol, son Rob, daughter-in-law Jan and three granddaughters; Katie, Haley and Brooke.

Family and friends have appreciated the time we’ve had with Dad, and we know he is now at peace in heaven with our Lord.

Clinton School District hires new assistant principal of Henry Elementary School

The Clinton School District has selected Jordan Townsend as the assistant principal of Henry Elementary School beginning with the 2022-2023 school year.

Mrs. Townsend, who is currently an ELA/reading teacher at Clinton Middle School and the Clinton School District Summer School Administrator, will bring 10 years of teaching and leadership experience to the students and staff at Henry Elementary. Jordan has taught both at the middle school and elementary levels, and has previous experience at the Lebanon and Warsaw School Districts.

Mrs. Townsend has a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (K-12) and a Master’s in Educational Leadership, both from Missouri State University.

Jordan and her husband, Tim (a CMS physical education teacher and assistant football coach), have three children, Ainsley (7), Easton (6), and Axton (3). Although Jordan and Tim just completed their first year in the district, Clinton has been an important part of their family for decades.

Jordan’s parents own Smith's Restaurant and her uncle Jim Smith is the Community Bank President at OakStar Bank. “We have grown to love the community and when the opportunity arose for both of us to teach in the district last year, we jumped at it. We are extremely invested in the growth of Clinton and the school district,” says Jordan.

Assistant Superintendent Brian Wishard says, “I am excited to have Mrs. Jordan Townsend as our new Assistant Principal at Henry Elementary. She will bring a strong background knowledge in special education. Mrs. Townsend has also taught in a variety of different grade levels which has given her the ability to relate to students at all levels. She will be a great addition to continue the success at Henry Elementary.”

Jordan is looking forward to beginning her work with the students and staff of Henry Elementary, “I measure my own success as a leader by how well the people who work for me succeed. I am able to start my first year of administration with a great group of educators who have already built a strong culture in their building.

Through my summer school experience I can easily tell they are a great work family and truly work for the best results in students. I am excited to work alongside Morgan Patrick and build our building success on top of what they have already started! When they succeed, I succeed!”
