2 of 4 suspects arrested in Pittsburg Kansas aggravated robbery

On July 2, 2022 at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were called to the 1000 block of Amber Dr. concerning a report of a male attempting to enter someone’s residence. Officers arrived in the area and made contact with a 32-year-old male who had injuries to his face.

The male reported being attacked and beaten by four men, one of whom took his wallet and left the area. He further reported that one of the suspect’s pointed a firearm at him during the incident. The male victim reported the other suspects had just left the area in a black truck.

Officers in the area conducted a traffic stop on the truck identified by the victim. Three male subjects were located within the vehicle. They were identified as 45-year-old Jeffrey David Broyles, of Arma; 38-year-old Matthew Allen Broyles, of Arma; and 26-year-old Jackson BAYER, of Colorado. Bayer escaped from officers on foot after being identified. Jeffrey Broyles, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a handgun.

The victim was initially treated at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg and was then transported by ambulance to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, where he was last reported to be in stable condition.

Jeffrey Broyles was arrested, without incident, and charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was transported to the Crawford County Jail where he is currently
being held in lieu of a $50,000.00 bond. 

Matthew Broyles was arrested, without incident, and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated battery. He was transported to the Crawford County Jail where he is currently being held in lieu of a $50,000.00 bond.

Bates County Fair officially underway



Along with the Pee Wee livestock show, fashion revue and other activities this evening was the much awaited chicken poo bingo game… after a short wait (and some cheering) the deed was done, making Cheryl Mohr the winner. Mohr promptly donated her winnings back to the fair, which was graciously accepted.

Stolen UTV north of Adrian

Be on the look out for a stolen 2014 Yamaha Viking. It was stolen sometime Sunday night North of Adrian. 

It has some damage of a missing panel on the bed of the drivers side and paint is faded from the sun.

This is not an actual picture but it looks like it. If you know the whereabouts of the UTV please contact the Sheriffs Office at 660-679-3232.

Obituary - Colleen Strange

Colleen Strange 85, of Butler, Missouri passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Cremation with graveside services to be 10:30 am, Friday, July 22, 2022. 

Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009).

Rita Colleen Strange was born November 20, 1936 in Butler, Missouri to Donald and Thelma Dickens Kisner. She was united in marriage to Dale Strange. They enjoyed 63 years together before his passing. Colleen was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star, she dearly loved her family, and enjoyed sharing her talents of cooking and sewing. Colleen also had a passion for helping others.

Colleen was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents, and numerous friends. She is survived by her sons, Lee Strange and wife Lena, Allen Strange and wife Jane, and Willard Eugene Strange. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Tasha, Vernon, Midori, and Matthew, along with many great-grandchildren and a brother Denver Kisner.

Pauline Gabriel, age 93 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, Missouri. She was born November 19, 1928 to Sina Etna and Ella Leota McGee Hooper in Butler, Missouri.

Pauline is survived by one son, Kenny L. Gabriel and wife Loretta of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Renee Edgmon and husband Ed of Butler, Missouri; four grandchildren, Troy Bagby, Joe Bagby and wife Linda, Ryan Gabriel and Cole Gabriel; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Bagby, Lauren Bagby, Cody Gabriel, Layton Gabriel, Kadi Kelly, Ethan Gabriel and Alayna Gabriel. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Gabriel; one grandson, Dub Gabriel; and four brothers, Edgar Hooper, Frosty Hooper, LaVerne Hooper and Dennis Hooper.

Butler City Council meeting will be held today at 3pm

4th of July structure fire in Belton

On July 4th, members of the Belton Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on the area of Spring Street.

The fire was found to have been caused by discarded fireworks placed next to residence. 

The fire was contained to the exterior of the house. No injuries were reported from this fire.

Bates County Fair Parade today in Butler!!

We will see you at the Parade! The Parade line-up is at 4:15 pm. on Tuesday, July 5th. Judging will begin around 4:30 pm. 

We will leave the Fair Grounds around 5:00 pm. This year the parade will be led by Larry and Denise Burch and family.

Thank you to the Burch family for their love and continued support of the Bates County Fair. The parade order will be decided by the chairman, Kody Wainscott. We hope you come out and help us celebrate our 50th year!
