Obituary - Dale Campbell

R. Dale Campbell passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at his home in Yates Center. He was 92.

Known all his life as Dale, he was born on April 3, 1930, to Hugh R. and Reta (Jones) Campbell in Yates Center.

He graduated from Yates Center High School in 1948, attended Kansas State University, and then graduated from the St. Louis School for Mortuary Arts in Missouri. He returned to his hometown and married the love of his life, Mary Katherine (Kathy) Alsop, on March 20, 1952.

He worked alongside his father and brother at Campbell Furniture Store and H.R. Campbell & Sons Funeral Home. After his father’s passing in 1969, Dale owned and managed the funeral home and furniture store in Yates Center. The furniture store was closed in 1976, but he continued in the funeral business until his retirement in 1991. He was active in the Kansas Funeral Directors Association throughout his career, serving as president in 1984.

Dale cared about the community and served in many capacities over the years, including the local school board and as an elder at the former Christian Church. He was a member of Gilead Lodge #144 for over seventy years, serving in various offices, including Master and District Deputy Grand Master. Dale was a member of both Scottish and York Rite Masons and the Mirza Shrine. He was very involved in the local Shrine club, helping to host annual steak dinners for many years. He was a past patron of the Golden Rod Chapter #163.

Dale enjoyed golf throughout his life, playing his last round shortly before his passing. He achieved three holes-in-one, including one in his eighties. A highlight of his life was playing at St. Andrews Links in Scotland. He was a member of Rock Creek Country Club in Burlington.

Dale and Kathy were married for 56 years before her passing in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Roderick Eugene; and his brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Shirley Campbell.

Dale’s legacy lives on through his children: JoAnn Osburn and husband Lynn, Gridley; Jana Goebel and husband Steve, Yates Center; and James Campbell and wife Tracy, Burlington. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Mark Goebel, Butler, Missouri; Tricia Goebel, Yates Center; Cameron Osburn, Olathe; Courtney Osburn Metzen, Madison; Joel Campbell, Lawrence; and Alex Campbell, Cincinnati, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves his nieces Bonnie Williams, Topeka, and Nancy McKenzie, Eureka, and a nephew, Jeffrey Campbell, North Carolina.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 11, at Campbell Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Yates Center Cemetery.

Honoring Dale’s love of golf, the family suggests memorial contributions to Rock Creek Country Club in Burlington. Contributions can be made in care of Jones-Campbell Funeral Home.

Obituary - Goldia Lenora Schulte

Goldia L. Schulte, 60, died unexpectedly July 1, 2022, at a Downers Grove, IL hospital. She was born November 13, 1961, in Bartlesville, OK, the daughter of James Gray and Virginia Davis.

Goldia graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1980. She entered the healthcare profession by obtaining her EMT license, and then her Paramedic license. She spent 14 years with St. John’s Hospital in the Cedar County District. Here she made so many life-long friends and helped her surrounding communities.

She married Victor Schulte in 1998 and they have been happily married ever since. Gold spent the last 19 years taking care of close relatives that need in-home help, and countless animals that needed a forever home. In her free time, she enjoyed throwing a line in the water, bowling with her friends, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her grandparents, she was predeceased in death by her father James Gray, stepfather Gerald (Jerry) Davis.

Surviving, in addition to her husband Victor Schulte, is her son Gregory Austin with wife Stephanie and three kids, Sakara, Hayden, and Keana, and her son Jarred Austin, with his son Colton Austin, and Victor’s daughter Megan Parks, her mother Virginia Davis, sister Helen (Dew) Davis, brothers John and Christopher Davis, her nieces Jordan Dozler and husband Brennan, and their three kids Brennali, Rylynn, and Teegan, niece Destany Miller, and niece Kira Williams with her fiancĂ© Tyler, and their daughter Esme.

East Lynne man seriously injured in Cass County rollover accident

On July 6th around 3:10 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident E. Orient Cemetery Road south of E. 245th Street in rural Harrisonville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2006 Ford F-150 driven by 65 year old Kevin S. Flockerzy of East Lynne, Missouri ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Mr. Flockerzy sustained serious injuries and he was transported to Centerpoint Medical Center for treatment. The Ford was towed from the scene of this accident by GT Tow.

Bates County Cattlemen’s Steak Dinner set for July 7th

The Bates County Cattlemen’s Steak Dinner will be served Thursday, July 7th from the Bates County Fairgrounds in Butler. Serving will start at 5:00 pm.

Each meal will include a Certified Angus Beef Strip, baked potato, baked beans, coleslaw, iced tea or water and a dinner roll. 

The meal is set at $22.00 per plate. It’s first come first serve until the food runs out!

Orvena Pauline Gabriel, age 93 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Medicalodge of Butler. She was born November 19, 1928 to Sina Etna and Ella Leota McGee Hooper in Butler, Missouri.

Pauline, the only daughter and youngest of five children, was born and raised in Bates County, Missouri where she graduated from Butler High School. She worked as a telephone operator in Butler. On September 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Gabriel and to this union, a son and daughter were born. Her memberships included the Methodist Church and Bates County Elks Lodge.

In her role as homemaker, Pauline was giving, caring, hardworking and never turned down a challenge. Enjoyments included fishing, cooking, making brownies, gardening and loving and caring for her grandchildren and dogs. Perhaps her greatest accomplishment was showing quarter horses in halter classes–she excelled and won top honors in 16 different states as well as the American Royal.

Pauline is survived by one son, Kenny L. Gabriel and wife Loretta of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Renee Edgmon and husband Ed of Butler, Missouri; four grandchildren, Troy Bagby, Joe Bagby and wife Linda, Ryan Gabriel and Cole Gabriel; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Bagby, Lauren Bagby, Cody Gabriel, Layton Gabriel, Kadi Kelly, Ethan Gabriel and Alayna Gabriel; and scores of stepkids and step-grandkids that she loved. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Gabriel; one grandson, Dub Gabriel; and four brothers, Edgar Hooper, Frosty Hooper, LaVerne Hooper and Dennis Hooper.

Obituary - Anna Lee Portwood

Anna Lee King Portwood age 86 of Clinton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 2nd, 2022 in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. 

Burial in Stone's Chapel Cemetery in Montrose, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to the Anna Portwood Memorial Fund and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Anna Lee is preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Gene King and Gary Dean Portwood.

She is survived by her daughter Shelley Wisdom, and her husband Ray of Clinton, Missouri, her grandchildren, Tiffany Snow and her husband Joe of Clinton, Missouri and Walter McFadden III and his wife Shirley of Calhoun, Missouri, 5 great-grandchildren, Haley Abell, Zachariah Abell, Jordan Abell, Emma McFadden, and Harold McFadden.

Anna Lee Worked as a mobile phone operator/bookkeeper at R&L Radio and TV in Clinton for 27 years. She also worked part-time at Casey's. Anna Lee also worked at the hospital for several years prior to retiring. Once retired she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anna Lee never knew a stranger as she loved to talk to everyone. She loved to cook and watch cooking channels always looking for something new to make. Anna Lee will be dearly missed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.
