Three seriously injured in Henry County crash

On July 8th around 8:15 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident at Missouri 7 Highway at NW CR 1501 in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2016 Chevrolet driven by 83 year old David H. Artherton of Creighton, Missouri pulled into the path and was struck by the 2009 Ford driven by 18 year old Devin M. Huey of Clinton, Missouri.

Three people sustained serious injuries in this accident 18 year old Devin M. Huey, 83 year old David H. Artherton and 79 year old Gloria K. Atherton all were transported to Kansas City area hospitals for treatment.

Obituary - Joyce Pearl Litten

Joyce Pearl Litten, 79, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Truman Healthcare & Rehab in Lamar. Joyce was born July 15, 1942 in Ft. Scott, KS to Frank M. and Eva V. (Parrish) Hogan. She was united in marriage to Wesley Litten on June 22, 1973 and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1998.

Joyce was raised in the Metz area. She attended Metz High School where she graduated with the Class of 1960. Joyce lived most of her adult life in Nevada. Although she worked for a time a Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, she spent most of her life as a caregiver for her family.

Joyce is survived by a daughter, Davonna Bolling, Lamar; three brothers, Gary Hogan (Melba), Moundville, Tom Hogan, Nevada, Ken Hogan (Evonda), Nevada; one sister, Pamela Bennett (Larry), Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Wesley, she was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia Hogan; a brother Jim Hogan; and her sister-in-law, Guyla Jean (Pickins) Hogan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Ray Dean Scism officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

2022 Appleton City Car Show

It's that time of year again. The 2022 Appleton City Car Show July 9th from 8am-3pm  come to the car show. 

This is a judged event with top 70 cars and trucks combined, top 3 motorcycles and top 3 rat rods.

Obituary - Frances Marie Ulmer

Frances M. Ulmer, 87, of Warsaw, MO passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. 

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri, with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, MO.

Nevada Police Department gets new computer technology

This week the Nevada Police Department will finish up another successful grant project for our department.

We were awarded a grant by the Department of Public Safety earlier this year that allowed us to update several of our patrol cars with new computer technology.

These new devices will allow officers on patrol to access more information while in the field. They will be able to access and complete reports and look up information in real time.

Robert Edgar “Bob” Mallatt, age 71 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at his home. He was born March 5, 1951 to Richard Gerald and Ella Rae Tracey Mallatt in Joplin, Missouri.

Bob is survived by a son, Richie Mallatt and wife Alex of Harrisonville, Missouri; one daughter, Sandy Cook and husband Sean of Butler, Missouri; a brother, Richard Mallatt and wife Connie of Riverton, Kansas; a sister, Stacey Williams and husband Mark of Galena, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Pat Armstrong and a sister-in-law, Virginia Armstrong both of Webb City, Missouri; and five grandchildren, Andon, Kadyn, Dawson, Kourtnee and Lil Richie. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert Mallatt; wife, Barbara Jean Mallatt; mother-in-law, Mary Frances Armstrong; and nephew, Jody Mallatt.

Harrisonville Police seeking public assistance

On 07/07/2022, at approximately 1617 hours, the Harrisonville Police Department responded to Sapp Bros in reference to a stealing report. 

We are requesting your assistance in locating these two individuals. The female goes by Melanie Mendez, and the male's name is possibly Donnell Mendez.

We believe they reside in the Kansas City, Kansas area. They are persons of interest in the theft of two American Pitbull pups. If you have any information, please contact the Harrisonville Police Department at 1-816-380-8940.
