Obituary - John Lesmeister Jr.

John Lesmeister Jr, age 78, passed away at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation, in Clinton, Missouri, on July 09,2022 with his family by his side.

John was born on April 18, 1944, to Bernard (Bernie) and Beulah (Kelland) Lesmeister.

In 1964 He married Sue Bradley and was blessed with two sons, JB lll (Brenda) and Michael (Kerry), three grandchildren, three step grand children and five great grandkids.

In his younger years John hauled hay with Dean Williamson and worked on the farm with Roy Kenton. After a short term in the Navy, he was employed in the parts department for Ford Motor Company here in Clinton MO. For Cotton Walker. 

After a few months at the Windsor Shoe Factory John became the assistant manager for Gerbes Super Market in Windsor Mo. Along with his good friends Dean Fockler and Wayne Hotaling who was also his partners in finding and rebuilding model A’s and model T’s and going to numerous swap meets looking for old cars and parts.

John owned and operated a Skelly service station in Calhoun Mo. When it closed in 1978 gas was .73 a gallon for gas, he also worked for Golden Valley Ford as a semi drive and delivered equipment for Woody and Tony.

In the 1980’s John acquired his private pilots license then in 1994 John became a certified flight instructor, he had several student for business owner, EMT’s, individual men and ladies even some from Whiteman AFB, along with on special student Dennis, after John retired Dennis became a certified flight instructor.

After having a stroke in 2012 which he retired from being a flight instructor, in later years he suffered with dementia/Alzheimer’s.

John had the privilege of owning alone or with partners two 150 Cessna’s two 172 Cessna’s and 180 Cessna. John loved to work on teach his boys how to restore two 1957 cars and enjoyed riding motorcycles.

John was preceded in death by the ones be called Mom (May) and Pop (Frank) Kelland from Montrose his mother (Bee) and Father (Spiv) his nick name for the band era, and a brother Gerald from Deepwater, the family has asked that memorial donation be made to Golden Valley Hospice in lieu of flowers. Memorials can be left at Consalus Funeral Home at 209 S. 2nd St. Clinton Mo.

Sheldon woman injured in Vernon County crash

On July 11th around 4:02 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Route B around two miles east of Sheldon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1996 GMC driven by 41 year old Stephanie L. Mundy, of Sheldon, Missouri was traveling eastbound when she slowed to make a left hand turn and was struck from behind by a 2017 Chevrolet Impala driven by 51 year old Shannon G. Sanderson of Schell City.

Stephanie L. Mundy sustained minor injuries and she was transported by private vehicle to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Obituary - James Lee Miller

Private funeral services for James will be held in Colorado at a later date. The family suggests memorial donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association.

James Lee Miller, 84, was born June 2, 1938 in Sedalia, Missouri the son of James F. and Hazel M. (Brewer) Miller. He departed this life July 8, 2022 in Springfield, Missouri.

James and Donna K. Bell were united in marriage March 29, 1968. They made their home in Appleton City, Missouri and he retired from UPS after 32 years of service as a driver. He earned the Safe Driving Award for his exemplary safety record.

James loved traveling, camping, 4-wheelers, and spending time at his cabin in Colorado.

Survivors include his wife, Donna K. Miller; his sons, Scotty (Lori) Miller and Robert (Pam) Miller; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Dustin, Alysha, and Chad; and his sister Hazel (Gene) Eickhoff.

Last Butler Youth Football Sign Ups July 12th

Tomorrow, July 12th, is the last day for Butler Youth Football Sign Ups from 6:00-8:00pm at the red shed by the flag football field. (South of the pool) 1st & 2nd grade is flag $50, 3rd/4th Tackle $100, 5th/6th Tackle $100. 

A parent or legal guardian will need to sign them up as there are waivers that will need signed.

Money is due at the time of sign ups. There will be no late sign ups. You must attend Butler school district to sign up to play here unless you have been approved through the South 71 board.

Obituary - Delbert Earl Rogers

Delbert Earl Rogers, 66 of Nevada, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in Nevada. He was born on July 3, 1956 in Nevada to Ansel Delbert and Wilma (Bowles) Rogers.

Delbert grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1974. Delbert worked for several area grocery stores and later for O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar. For the past eleven years he has been employed by Platinum Aerostructures on East Highland in Nevada. 

He had recently signed papers to receive social security benefits and planned to retire in November. Delbert enjoyed playing “pool”, watching any and all sports on T.V., and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Delbert had a love of animals and took care of many stray pets over the years. Delbert was also known for his “love” of lemon meringue pie.

Delbert was the only boy in his family and had seven sisters. He is survived by four sisters, Shirley Thompson (Estel) of Nevada, Donna Lutes (Larry) Nevada, Mary Dighero, Bolivar, MO, and Connie Oliver (Rance), Ft Scott, KS. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Pat McClellan, Bonnie Bott, and Brenda McCarthy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday.

Those who wish may contribute in Delbert’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Nevada Animal Shelter c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Ray Ishmael Vasquez

Ray Ishmael Vasquez, age 54 of Sedalia, Missouri died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born September 19, 1967 to Ray and Frances Darlene Poor Vasquez in Chicago, Illinois.

Ray grew up in Sauk Village, Illinois and lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Bolivar, Missouri and finally Sedalia, Missouri. He was a simple man who was unique and friendly. Ray loved to joke, tell stories and give his brothers and sisters a hard time. He enjoyed listening to rock music, collecting baseball cards and coins, and spending time with his family. A favorite keepsake that he always kept with him was a tiny little Bible.

Ray is survived by two sisters, Suzette Daley and husband Shawn of Holiday, Florida and Christina Viles of Springfield, Missouri; and two brothers, Harvey Vasquez and wife Rhea of Bolivar, Missouri and Roberto Vasquez of Nevada, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents.
