Best of luck

The Nevada Fire Department wants to wish the best of luck to Captain Chris Robinson, as today is his last shift at Nevada Fire!

Chris is very knowledgeable and his experience will be missed!

Unfortunately Chris is the 4th firefighter in a year we have lost and 3rd to another fire department.

Obituary - Marcella "Sally" (Langel) Kruse

Marcella "Sally" (Langel) Kruse, age 97, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Glendale Gardens in Clinton, Missouri. A visitation with mass following will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Clinton, Missouri. 

Inurnment will be in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Clinton Missouri Animal Shelter (C.A.R.E.) or the Henry County Memory Fund and can be left in care of the funeral home. Sally was born on October 7, 1924, near Templeton in Carroll County, Iowa. She married her sweetheart, Otto, in 1946, upon his return from World War II. Sally and Otto raised their family in Manning, Iowa, where they were farmers. Sally loved telling stories and jokes. She never met a stranger; every person was just a friend she hadn’t spoken to yet.

Sally is survived by two daughters, Linda Gill and companion Dennis Kooker of Adrian, MO, Francine Hargens and spouse Tom Hargens of Clinton, MO; four grandchildren and their spouses, James and Molly Hastings of Kansas City, MO, Tiffany and Robert Humphreys of Knoxville, IL, Beth and Chris Thompson of Kansas City, MO, and Amber and William Kennedy of Greenwood, MO. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Brylan, Brooke, and Whitney.

Sally is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Otto; her parents, 2 sisters and one brother, and 2 sons-in-law.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Mark A. Dozier


Mark A. Dozier, 59, of Paola, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Paola Firehouse Gym, 202 E. Wea, Paola, Kansas, 66071. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Paola Firehouse Gym. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Mark was born Tuesday, February 12, 1963, in Paola, KS, the son of the late Jesse Paul and Nina May (Dicke) Dozier. He grew up in Paola and graduated from Paola High School with the Class of 1981.

He worked as a fire fighter with the Paola Fire Department for 24 years. He had also been a paramedic with the Miami County EMS for 15 years.

Mark enjoyed competition BBQ smoking and was the owner of 9-1-1 Barbeque and Catering. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, working race tracks (Kansas Speedway & Des Moines Race Track), and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-sister Verla Bennington.

Survivors include his step-brother Paul Dozier of California; an uncle Ralph Dicke of Mildred, Kansas; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Independence truck driver injured in Bates County rollover accident

On July 15th around 12:40 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 18 Highway and CR 12002 in rural Merwin.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2020 Hino Tractor Trailer driven by 21 year old Joseph M. Beem of Independence, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

Mr. Beem sustained moderate injuries and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The truck was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by J's Southland Tow.

Harrisonville Police seeking public assistance

On 7/12/22, at approximately 3:15 p.m. (1512 hours), there was an incident at Walmart (1700 N 291 Hwy). 

We would like to speak to the male subject in the photographs about the incident. We understand that these photographs are not the best. 

However, if you think you know who this male subject is, please call Harrisonville Police Detective Hunziker at 816-380-8950.

Suspect arrested for burglary in Linn County Kansas

On 07/14/2022 a report was taken for burglary at the Lake Shop in Linn Valley. 

A suspect entered the business by breaking out a door window. The suspect was wearing a ski mask to conceal their identity from the security cameras.

While inside the suspect took food items, cigarettes and a small amount of cash. Based on surveillance footage a suspect was identified. On 07/15/2022, the suspect was located in LaCygne and subsequently confessed.

No names will be released until formal charges are filed.

Obituary - Louis Eldon Stephens

Louis Eldon Stephens, 90, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at his home in Harrisonville. Louis was born May 14, 1932 on the family farm in Harrisonville, a son of William Sloan and Mary Bell (Potts) Stephens. 

He has lived in Harrisonville most of his life, and lived across the road from his birthplace. Louis attended Lone Tree Rural School #60 and was a 1950 graduate of Harrisonville High School.

Louis was a concrete finisher and a member of the Concrete Masons Union before his retirement. In his spare time, and after retirement, he raised and sold Black Angus Cattle. He was united in marriage to Wanda Shaul in 1965 and she preceded him in death on December 11, 2008. Louis was united in marriage to Dorothy (Mayabb) Bales on December 21, 2013.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, a brother, John, four sisters, Dorothy Smith, Judith Pulliam, Laila Anson, Ellen Williams, and a son, Rick Bales. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; a son, Terry Bales and wife, Judy, Roscoe, MO; a brother, Donald Stephens, Harrisonville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Louis requested cremation and no services, with his cremains to be buried in the family plot at Brady Cemetery in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Brady Cemetery, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home, 600 West Wall, Harrisonville, MO 64701.

News from the city of Adrian

This week, the city of Adrian submitted three grant applications to Missouri's ARPA State Fiscal Recovery Funds portal. Each grant is a competitive community grant opportunity and is awarded based on a scoring system with preference given to project need, affordability, financial and engineering capability.

The review process has begun and the successful applicants will have the funds awarded in October.

If successful, the city will use the funds for projects including wastewater line rehabilitation, water meter replacement, and a lead service line inventory. The grant applications are seeking funds for projects totaling $725,000.
