Fort Scott Police Department reports scam calls

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Today, Fort Scott Police Department has received numerous reports of an individual making phone calls posing as a member of our department. 

During these phone calls, the caller either mentions a subpoena being issued due to a citation, or about a fine that needs to be paid.

We want to assure you that these calls are 100% fraudulent, and do not originate from our department or any department member. No member of our department or municipal court would make phone calls of this nature.

If you receive a call similar to the ones described here, please disregard and report it to FSPD at our non-emergency #: 620-223-1700

Obituary - Ruth Lowry

Ruth Lowry of Richards MO, passed away peacefully at her home on July 8, 2022. Daughter of William Hugh and Mary (Neptune) Johnson, she was born January 1, 1931. 

She lived on the family farm at Eve MO until her marriage to Airman Albert Warren (“Budge”) Lowry on July 25, 1952. To their union was born daughters, Lou Ellen and Carolyn and son, John. The family was dedicated to service with the United States Air Force until 1972.

At that time, they returned to Richards to make their home. Prior to his unexpected death in 1973, Albert and Ruth made the first payment on their farm. In 2011, she returned there to live out her life. In the years following her husband’s death, Ruth made her home in Nevada MO, Ottumwa IA, Wichita KS and Joplin MO.

Following graduation from Nevada High School in 1948 and receiving her teaching certificate from Pittsburg State, she held a variety of jobs beginning as a teacher in a one-room school and finishing her career as a supervisor with the Social Security Administration where she worked from 1973 until her retirement in 1990. Ruth often marveled at the extraordinary life she was given, the places she traveled and the people she met. Her life was supported by her strong faith in God and she filled it with love and service for her family, friends and church communities. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Nevada MO. Ruth will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by brothers James (J.W), Olan and Bernard and sister Lois Fritter. She is survived by her brother Roy and his wife, Letha and sister in law Kay (Lynn) Johnson; Children: Lou Ellen, Joplin MO, Carolyn, Bryan TX, and John, Richards MO; Grandchildren: Marshal Lowry (Allison) Bryan TX; Katie and James Moncivais, Austin TX, Chris (Jessica) Moncivais, Marfa, Texas; Emily (Josh) Appeldorn Springdale AR, Erin (Tom) Evans Lenexa KS, John (Kirby) Lowry Bartlesville OK and Heather (Nathan) Glassman Denver CO; Great grandchildren: Isabella Appeldorn, Apollo Evans, Maelie, Georgie and Carmen Lowry and Ava Marie, Lucy, Joseph and Gemma Glassman.

At Ruth’s request, her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Burial will take place at a later date in the U. S. National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Ft. Scott, Kansas. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Double murder in Clinton

On 7-17-22 at approximately 10:30 pm, in the area of Artesian Park near the Rogers Street entrance, an officer of the Clinton Police Department located multiple vehicles in a gravel parking lot. 

Upon further investigation, Mason Roskop and Mitchell Andrew Raines of Clinton were found deceased with multiple gunshot wounds. 

A suspect who was identified as 19 year Airic Brauer of Clinton was detained soon after the incident near the scene and is being held on a 24-hour investigative hold in the Henry County Detention Center. 

This incident is still under investigation.

Stolen vehicle in Peculiar

INFORMATION UPDATE:
This is a picture of the suspect vehicle from a recent vehicle theft that occurred over night.

Burn ban in effect for the city of Butler

Butler Fire Chief Bennett has issued a no burn ban this week for the City of Butler.

This is due to the high temperatures expected this week and no rain.


Obituary - Brelande Edmond

Brelande Edmond, loving son, brother, and grandson passed away on the morning of July 3rd at the age of 23 at the North Kansas City Hospital. Brelande was born in September 22, 1998 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He grew up surrounded by his large loving family and supporting friends.

Brelande was influenced by his family to be a loving and caring man, always given his time to others. And when Brelande was not helping others he was too busy spoiling his sisters as much as he possibly could. Giving the best bear hugs that could fill your soul with love.

While pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Avila University he worked for Ozanam- Children and Families Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Brelande successfully completed college with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology with emphasis in Mental Health, He then enroll in the police officers training program at PVCC..

Brelande made sure to incorporate God and his parent’s teachings into his everyday life. Being a faithful Christian he was a member of Real Life Assembly of God Church in Peculiar, Missouri. We know that God is pleased to have one of His loving and generous angels back in His arms where he belongs. Brelande will be surely missed by those here on earth.

Brelande is survived by his two loving mothers, Kayla Gardner-Edmond from St. Louis, Missouri and LaToyia Edmond of Raymore, Missouri. And his father, Marcus Edmond who also resides in Raymore, Missouri. He will also be missed by his two surviving sisters, Kayla S. Edmond and Riley J.E. Edmond.

Brelande also leaves behind his grandparents, Jessie and Bobby Edmond of Diehlstadt, Missouri and his maternal grandmother Georgia Baisley of Murphysboro, Illinois. Brelande also leaves behind the love of his life, Kylie Jett and loving friends.

Brelande is now in heaven with his beloved older sister, Breanne Renee Gardener, and his maternal grandfather, Mark Gardner, who both preceded in death.

“We know that we can’t have you with us, but we’re happy knowing that the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ finally has you safe in His arms. Goodbye, until we meet again, to a wonderful son, a precious brother, amazing grandson, and a beautiful soul”
