Two from Archie injured in Benton County crash

On July 19th around 12:45 p.m. the Missouri Highway Patrol in Benton County along with Benton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Route C just west of Route E in rural Benton County.

The Missouri State Highway says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2007 Ford Sport Trac driven by 84 year old Douglas M. Archer of Archie, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a fence and utility pole. 
After impact the vehicle continued through a field and struck a tree before coming to rest.

Mr. Archer along with a passenger in his vehicle 81 year old Gayle Archer of Archie, Missouri both sustained injuries and both were transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton for treatment.

Obituary - Robert L. "Leroy" Lawson

Robert L. "Leroy" Lawson, 81, Archie, Missouri departed this life on Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home.

Leroy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gayle Lawson of the home; his mother-in-law, Cara Wilma Anderson, Butler, Missouri; three brothers-in-law, Ken Anderson and wife Millie, Clinton, Missouri, Walt Anderson and wife Merry, Harrisonville, Missouri and Gerald Anderson, Adrian, Missouri; his favorite sister-in-law, Kay Terry and husband Phil, Clinton, Missouri; other relatives including 16 nieces and nephews, 31 great-nieces and nephews; and friends.

A Military Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Crescent Hill Cemetery near Adrian, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Obituary -Thelma Sue Ross

Thelma Sue Ross of Harrisonville, Missouri was born on May 21, 1932 in Formosa, Arkansas, the daughter of Walter Casey and Jess (Williams) Casey. She departed this life on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at her home in Harrisonville, MO., surrounded by her loving family.

Sue retired from the Harrisonville Wal-Mart and spent her retirement years working as a part-time school lunch lady, traveling, spending time with family, watching her grandkids and great grandkids play sports. 

She also loved playing cards with her friends “the Grannies” and loved spending time with the “Dayton Bunch”. Her travels took her to Canada, and many of the continental states, as well as Hawaii. At home, she loved to read and work in her garden.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Jess and her older sister, Doris Bramlett.

Sue is survived by her younger sister, Asa Cornwell, Springdale AR.; her son, Walter Ross, Lees Summit, MO.; daughter Tammy Hatman and husband Harold; 2 grandchildren, Ashley Franklin and husband Matt; Chase Hatman and wife Katie; 3 great-grandchildren, Kaden Franklin, Jesse Franklin, and Lanie Hatman all of Harrisonville, MO. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Cornerstone Community Church, 704 Waters Rd, Harrisonville, MO 64701.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the church.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Obituary - Jeffrey Charles Jones

Jeffrey Charles Jones, 58, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away suddenly on June 6, 2022. Jeff was born on August 13, 1963, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the first born of Charles and Jeneen Jones. He graduated from Harrisonville (Missouri) High School in 1981 and went to Devry Technical School in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduation in 1984, Jeff worked for Steak and Ale restaurants as a manager for 3 years.

In 1987, Jeff took a job with Stanford and Son’s Comedy Club where he would work as a manager in various locations for 6 years. Always wanting to be his own boss, Jeff opened the Looney Bin Comedy Club in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1993. Alongside his business partner, Larry Marks, they went on to open other clubs in Wichita, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Memphis (closed). Aside from the comedy business, Jeff enjoyed buying distressed properties and remodeling them to create rental properties.

Jeff was known and deeply loved as a quiet guy with a sharp wit. He had a goofy laugh and is remembered fondly for saying “Reallllly?” and “You’re kidding!” He loved bringing people together through humor. He was an extremely active man. He loved to hike, golf, play Frisbee golf, and even mastered Tae Kwan Do as a second degree black belt. Jeff and Connie Walker, his girlfriend of 13 years, loved traveling together. He had one daughter, Hailey Jones. Jeff relished in spending time with his family, especially Connie’s grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

Jeff is survived by his girlfriend, Connie Walker, of Little Rock; her daughter and husband, Trisha and Danny McCall, and grandsons, Ty Jones and Dakota McCall, all of Benton, AR; his daughter, Hailey Jones, of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Jonathan Jones (Jill) of Olathe, KS; sisters Julie Zaring (Mike) of Harrisonville, MO; and Janna Smith of St. Peters, MO; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and brother-in-law, Matt Smith.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Smith Family Funeral Homes in Little Rock, Arkansas, followed by a celebration of Jeff’s life on June 22, 2022 at the Loony Bin Comedy Club in Little Rock. There be a memorial service at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, MO on Friday, July 22, 2022. Service time is pending and will be posted when information is available.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Chuck and Jeneen Jones Christian Scholarship Fund or to the Little Rock Compassion Center

Obituary - Rudy Lerma

Rudy Lerma, age 55, Mound City, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on July 20, 1966 the son of Elias and Isabel Lerma.

He graduated high school from the Shawnee Mission District. Rudy was united in marriage to Stephanie Perry. He worked as an electronics technician in the railroad industry. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting and bringing joy to other's lives.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elias. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, two sons, Albert and Elijah Lerma, two daughters, Mariya and Jesse Lerma, two brothers, Adolf and Manuel, three sisters, Grace, Gloria, and Del, and six grandchildren.

Obituary - Ricky Albert Sweat

Ricky Albert Sweat, age 67, La Cygne, Kansas passed away Monday, July 18, 2022. He was born on June 4, 1955 in Highland, Kansas the son of Bracey and Delores Peters Sweat. He worked driving a concrete truck. He was united in marriage to Jacaline Lammert.

Ricky enjoyed fishing, cutting wood, gardening, mowing yards, country cruising, drinking beer and hanging out with family and his dog, Fiona. He was preceded in death by his father, Bracey, a brother, Bruce, and two sisters, Freda and Catherine.

Ricky is survived by his wife, Jackie, mother, Delores Wisdom, two sons, James and Michael Sweat, three brothers, Billy, Jack, and Randy Sweat, and three sisters, Dorothy Sweat, Cindy Sweat Hobbs, and Becky Darnell.

A short Memorial Service will be held 5 pm Friday, July 29, 2022 at the family home in La Cygne. A celebration of Ricky's Life will follow.

Clinton Fire Department announces promotion

Please join the Clinton Fire Department in congratulating Engineer CJ McDonald on his promotion to Lieutenant! 

Lieutenant McDonald will be assigned to "A" Shift where his primary role will be to operate the departments aerial apparatus and serve as the senior operator on his shift. 

Additionally, Lieutenant McDonald will serve as the acting shift officer on his shift in the absence of the shift Captain.
