Nevada Police Department Incident Spotlight

**Incident Spotlight** Lots of proactive police work being done in the last week!

An officer responded to a residence to follow up on information they had obtained on a wanted subject. 

During the follow up the officer was able to identify the subject there that had outstanding warrants for their arrest. Later in the day, the same officer was able to locate another subject who had outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction in Missouri. The officer was able to take both subjects into custody.

Officers were investigating a disturbance that was called in. During the investigation, officers were able to identify one of the subjects involved who had outstanding warrants from multiple jurisdictions. Officers were able to take the subject into custody.

One officer was conducting surveillance and noticed a known subject in the area who had outstanding warrants for their arrest from a neighboring county. The officer was able to make contact with that individual and take them into custody on the outstanding warrant.

Officers were advised of a wanted subject and they responded to the area in question. Officers located the subject and were able to take them into custody.

During a midnight shift, patrol officers were following up with a trespassing complaint at a local storage unit facility. While patrolling the area officers located a subject on the property. It was discovered the subject had outstanding warrants for their arrest. Officers were able to take the individual into custody.

An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. During the stop, the officer discovered the driver had multiple warrants for their arrest. The officer took the driver into custody on the outstanding warrants.

During a disturbance call officers discovered one of the parties involved had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. Officers took the subject into custody on the warrant.

Officers were following up with information on a wanted subject. When officers arrived at the location they were able to identify two subjects who had outstanding warrants. The officers were able to successfully apprehend both subjects.

The County Clerk/ Election Authority's office and the Election room in the basement is only accessible to certified Election personnel.

All ballots, machines ,poll pads, and materials required by law to be kept are securely stored in these locations.

Obituary - Jimmie Doris (Hunter) Rice

Jimmie Doris (Hunter) Rice, 89, of Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Jimmie, or Tiny as she was known to many people, was born November 20, 1932, in Dimmitt, TX to Finis E. and Myrtis Faye (Norman) Hunter.

Jimmie grew up in West Texas, and she graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1949. On July 25, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Lonnie Rice, in Dimmitt. Lonnie and Jimmie became parents to five sons born in the panhandle of Texas from 1951 to 1962. 

Jimmie and family moved to Nevada in March 1963, where they farmed and raised cattle with her father and on their own for many years, while supporting their sons in all of their sports and other extra-curricular activities in the Nevada schools. For more than twenty years, Jimmie was a farm loan clerk at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Nevada, where she took great pride in helping Vernon County’s farmers navigate the USDA farm programs. 

Especially after retirement, Jimmie loved nothing more than getting in her car or on a plane and heading out across the country or overseas for great adventures. Her wall was adorned with memorabilia from her travels to more than a dozen countries.

For many years, Jimmie was a strong supporter of Cottey College through her involvement with P.E.O., and of the Vernon County Youth Fair through Diana’s. Jimmie was also a long-time member of First Methodist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include son Bruce Rice (Debra) of Nevada, their daughters, Katie Rice of Indianapolis, IN, and Lindsay Kerbs (Jordan) of Prairie Village, KS, and great grand-daughter Madilyn Jane Kerbs; son Jim Rice (Kelly) of North Richland Hills, TX; son Mike Rice of Chicago, IL; daughter-in-law, Doris Rice (Gregg) of McQueeny, TX; their children, William Rice (Amy) of San Antonio, TX; Drew Liles (Bethany) of Nevada, MO, and Hollie Liles Kelly (Kyle) of San Diego, CA, and great-grandchildren Raleigh Kelly, Kameron Kelly, Josie Liles, Emmitt Liles, and Juliette Liles. Jimmie is also survived by one niece, Marsha Markham of Seneca, MO, and a number of great nieces and nephews, as well as their children. Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie, and two of her sons, Steve and Gregg, her sister Norma Johns, and her nephew, Dennis Markham (Toni).

A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, with a private graveside service to follow.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Obituary - Richard Lee (Dick) Meyers

Richard Lee (Dick) Meyers, 71, formerly of Nevada, MO, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in Overland Park, KS. Dick was born May 3, 1951, to Maurice (Bud) and Mary Meyers in Mitchell, South Dakota. At an early age he was plagued with polio. 

The generosity from the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis, MN, allowed Dick to receive lifesaving treatments. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell, SD, he attended the Rapid City School of Business in Rapid City, SD. While living in Mitchell he married Jean Meyers and they had two children together.

In 1986 he and Jean moved to Nevada, MO to build a Super 8 Motel. Nevada became their home, as they developed motels and commercial properties in Missouri and Kansas. Dick dedicated many years of service as a council member and mayor of the City of Nevada.

Dick leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Terri Meyers, of the home. They spent their lives together living through the Midwest with their Schnauzer dogs, Lily and Lucy. He is also survived by four children, Kelly (Jason) Ast, Richard (Bud) Meyers, stepsons, Jason (Audra) Claspill, and Justin Claspill; grandchildren, Alex Ast, Garret Ast, Korbyn Claspill, and Zoe Claspill; sister, Pat (Lee) Elward, brother, Don Meyers, and brother, Tom (Monica) Meyers of Mitchell, SD, sister, Julie Wieseman, and brother, Bill Meyers of Sioux Falls, SD, and sister, Mary (Bob) Diederick of Omaha, NE; mother-in-law, Earlene Butler of Nevada; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Jim, and his first wife Jean.

Two tired eyes are sleeping, two willing hands are still. The one who worked so hard is resting at God’s Will.

A private family committal service will be held at a later date.

Traffic alert from the city of Grandview

We know the I-49 Outer Road construction has taken its toll on drivers this summer and we thank you for your patience! 

Today, the Main Street exit from Northbound I-49 will close and the East Outer Road will close to traffic at Highgrove. 

These closures will be in place for two months. Again, thank you for your patience.

Clinton Cardinals Varsity Wrestling: Our own Amitria McNack will be in the 138 lb. championship match at the Fargo Junior National Championship tonight (July 20). 

She is an All-American- How cool is that? Good luck Amitria. (She is a sophomore at CHS).

Obituary - Dora Sue Clark

Dora “Sue” Clark of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, MO at the age of 65.

Sue was born September 11, 1956, in Ft. Scott, KS to Omar and Flo Canady. 

She graduated from Walker High School. After high school, she married Randy Clark. She worked as a CNA working at various hospitals and nursing homes in the area for many years. She attended The Hill Church in El Dorado Springs, MO and loved Elvis Presley, horses, crocheting and Yoda, especially Baby Yoda.

She is survived by two sons, Jason Omar Clark and Joey and his wife Chandra Clark, El Dorado Springs, MO; a daughter, April Sue Clark; grandchildren, Erica Jones, and Matt McCartney; great grandchildren, Erica Jones, Satina Jones and Ryker Joe Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Kristy Lee Clark.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Ferry Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial at Rosco Cemetery.
