Bates Co. Route BB/South Deepwater Branch Bridge CLOSED for Rehabilitation Beginning Week of Aug. 1st

Bates County – The Bates County Route BB bridge over South Deepwater Branch east of Butler will be CLOSED for up to 84 days to have its driving surface replaced starting the week of August 1, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Contractor crews will remove the bridge deck/driving surface and replace it with a new surface. The project also includes new barrier walls, striping and guardrail at the ends of the bridge.

Traffic Impacts:

  • All lanes of Route BB CLOSED where crews are working
  • Drivers will have access to entrances on either side of the bridge, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
  • No signed detour
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers urged to find alternate routes to avoid work zone
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.

The bridge was built in 1961 and carries approximately 90 vehicles per day.

This contract also includes replacement of Bates County Route B bridges over the Marais des Cygnes River and the Bates County Drainage Ditch east of Rich Hill. That work is expected to begin this fall.

Project background:

  • Prime Contractor: Phillips Hardy Inc., Columbia
  • Completion Date: December 1, 2023
  • Total project cost: $6.4 million 

Obituary - Rose I. Easton

Rose Irene Easton age 85 of Peculiar, Missouri departed this life Friday, July 22, 2022 at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home, Belton, Missouri.

Rose is survived by her husband B.R. Easton of the home; three sons, Robert Easton and his wife Lori Jo of Peculiar, Missouri, Richard Easton and his wife Lorie of Raymore, Missouri, and James Easton of Carl Junction, Missouri; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Raymore Fellowship Church, Raymore, Missouri. Burial will be in the Raymore Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan Purse "Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes".

Motorcycle accident claims the life of Osceola man

On July 24th around 7:45 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies and Osceola Fire Department responded to a motorcycle accident on Missouri 13 Highway at Truman Road in Osceola.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan driven by 66 year old David L. Singleton of Osceola, Missouri overturned ejecting the driver.

Mr. Singleton was life flighted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri where he was pronounced dead around 9:50 p.m.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 64th Fatality of the year 2022.

Cass County Sheriff’s Rodeo set for October 7th & 8th

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary is excited to host the Cass County Sheriff’s Rodeo this October 7th and 8th at the Harrisonville North Park Rodeo Grounds.

The goal of the CCSO Auxiliary is to provide a premiere benefit rodeo that will support our commitment to public safety and children through the efforts of the Sheriffs Auxiliary.

Through our concerted efforts, we will provide a memorable experience for the community and its participants. The event brings a better understanding of the relationship between Law Enforcement and the public.

"The Sheriff's Auxiliary is delighted to bring back this fun and family friendly Rodeo to the area. Our goal is to assist the Sheriff's office in helping keep the residents of Cass County safe” said Auxiliary President Darren Rew.

Hey Bates County Nostalgia Band fans….

Our Monday, July 25th concert has been postponed until September….it’s too hot!

Our next performance will be Saturday, July 30, 12 noon at the Broomcorn Festival at Poplar Heights Living History Farm.

Obituary - Morgan W. Moreland

Morgan W. Moreland, 21 of Piqua, Ohio passed away at 11:54 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home after a very courageous battle against Acute T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was born July 3, 2001 in Butler, Missouri to Dallas Moreland of Minster and Crystal (Taylor) Moreland of Piqua.

Other survivors include his son who was his world, Brentley Thomas; two brothers, Couy and Mason Moreland both of Piqua; maternal grandparents, Joyce (Mike) Dawson of Troy; the mother of his son, Cassie Flores; and a few of his cousins he was very close to, Luke, Bobby, and Kristy Villa; also many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ronald (Judy) Moreland.

Morgan was a graduate of Troy High School and the Upper Valley Career Center Class of 2019 and excelled in the welding program. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America in Butler, Missouri and Miami East and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed working outside, working on cars, going hunting, fishing, and camping. Morgan was an avid gun collector, a swift lego builder, and a jack of all trades. He was always active, a hard worker and even with everything he was going through, he wanted to keep working and still put others first before himself. 

Morgan will be remembered for his strength, his bravery, and his resolve to never stop fighting. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A special time to honor his life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will take place back home at Greenlawn Cemetery in Rich Hill, Missouri.
