Obituary - Leva Vivian (Koblitz) Loyd

Leva Köblitz Loyd, 100, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Leva was born on November 8, 1921 to Fred and Ethel Peterson Köblitz in Hugoton, KS. She met the love of her life, Fred Loyd, while working at Boeing aircraft factory during World War II. They were married May 10, 1944 in Wichita, KS. After having their first child, they moved back to Fred’s homestead in rural Fair Haven, MO.

Leva was raised in the western Kansas area traveling with her family as her father found farm work with the seasons to support his twelve children. She graduated high school from Erie, Kansas and received her teaching degree from Chanute Community College shortly after.

She was a dedicated wife and mother to ten children. In addition to being a homemaker, she taught school at “Towne” one room schoolhouse near Fair Haven, MO. After raising most of her children, she worked at the State Hospital as an LPN. She loved working alongside her “Freddie” on their family farm raising pecans, cattle, and kids. Family was very important to Leva, and she enjoyed counting how many descendants were present at every holiday and family gathering. Her hobbies included gardening, growing plants and flowers, traveling (riding “gun-shot” & collecting rocks), and keeping all the grandchildren in line.

She is survived by eight children, Linda Luther, Sharon (George) Hardy, Connie (Neal) Gerster, Debbie (Dean) Keely, Kima Hopkins, Vivian (Darren) Mays, Julie (Jerry) McCullick, & Randy Loyd, and daughter-in-law, Janie Loyd; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and “adopted” daughter, Kitty Wikoff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; brothers David Köblitz, and Allie Köblitz; sisters, Phoebe Loomis, Bobbie Rodarmel, Josephine Mahoney, Hazel Hughes, Lou Forney, Polly Bradford, Sadie Alder, Joan Proffitt, & Jean Manwarren; sons, David Loyd and Lonnie Loyd, daughter-in-law, Johnna Loyd, son-in-law, Junior Luther, and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the Schell City Christian Church in Schell City, MO with Ron Maus officiating. Interment will follow in Green Mound Cemetery in Harwood, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at 210 N. Osage (Behind Eddie’s Auto), in Nevada, MO.

Busy weekend for Henry County Sheriffs Office K-9 Elinor

Henry County Sheriffs Office K-9 Elinor had a busy weekend. On Friday, July 29th MSHP requested to sniff a vehicle they had stopped in the 400 block of NW K, positive alert/ Trooper located suspected narcotics, meth, Fentanyl, several Xanax pills and other miscellaneous pills, charged with distribution.

On Saturday the 30th Deputies Baker and Weber along with Cpl. Brandt responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of NE E Hwy.

Two subjects were taken into custody, the third was hiding in thick brush. Deployed K9 Elinor for an area search for the hiding subject. K9 Elinor scent located the subject and took us to him where he surrendered without incident.

After locating the subject, K9 Elinor was used to free air sniff the vehicle for narcotics and gave a positive alert. During the vehicle search a substance believed to be meth was located along with a pipe commonly used to smoke meth.

Good job K-9 Elinor in assisting our staff and the Highway Patrol with getting drugs and criminals off our streets.

Welcome back home, Mrs.Setzer!

Let’s give an #ArchieStrong welcome to a new team member of the Archie School District! Mallory Setzer is joining the district, where she will be a kindergarten teacher.

Mrs. Setzer attended kindergarten through 12th grade in the Archie R-V School District. She used her A+ Scholarship at State Fair Community College to gain her Associate of Arts Degree. She then transferred to Central Methodist University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

Mrs. Setzer’s husband is an Archie alumnus as well. They love to travel and have set a goal to visit all of the MLB stadiums. So far they have been to 8 stadiums. We are sure Kauffman is still their favorite! Mr. & Mrs. Setzer have two cats. They consider Winston and Daisy their children.

Mrs.Setzer is excited to be back home in Archie and have the opportunity to work with familiar faces. Being able to make a difference in students’ lives in her hometown has always been a dream. She can’t wait to see it through!

Nevada Police Department Incident Spotlight

An officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. It was discovered the driver was wanted out of Bates County. The subject was taken into custody by the officer.

An officer contacted a subject at a local business that was causing a disturbance. During the investigation the officer received information the subject was wanted. The officer was able to take the subject into custody.

A known wanted subject was spotted by an off duty officer. The officer relayed the subjects location to on duty officers and the subject was located and taken into custody.

One officer was parked near an intersection when they observed a vehicle pass that was occupied by a known wanted individual. The officer was able to stop the vehicle and take custody of the wanted subject.

During a midnight shift, officers contacted a subject in regards to a drug investigation. During the contact officers located suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Officers responded to an address to locate a subject with outstanding warrants. The subject was located and taken into custody.

During a residential patrol one officer noticed a wanted subject in the area. The officer was able to make contact with the individual and take them into custody.

Great job to these officers for taking proactive steps to serve our community!

Bates County Coroner Report June and July 2022

Good morning everyone on this first day of August already. Today I see another heat warning so I'll renew my caution about hydration and paying attention today. 

Thus far, this is the first summer I've not attributed any deaths to heat exposure and I pray that continues to be the case. Still, it never hurts to check on your friends today and tomorrow.

 
Investigation has concluded into a death May 23 wherein a gentleman was found deceased in the cab of a semi truck. Autopsy results are final and combined with scene investigation, the death is accidental in nature.

 
On June 11 I was contacted for a jurisdictional referral from Jackson County Medical Examiner of a death in Jackson County following an incident in Bates County. Investigation by medical record revealed the death to be accidental in nature.

 
On June 13 we were called to a residence in Butler by Butler Police wherein family members had found a female deceased. Death was determined to be natural in manner.

On June 21 we responded to the Bates County Memorial Hospital ER where a female had been pronounced following a response and transfer from EMS. Investigation revealed death due to natural causes.

 
During the month of June the office reviewed 4 reports of deaths attended by nursing home or hospice.

On July 7 we were called to a residence in Butler where family members found a gentleman deceased in his residence. Pending test results, the case remains open at this time.

On July 13 we responded to a residence in Adrian after family members found a female deceased in her home. Investigation revealed death due to natural causes.

 
On July 14 we responded to a residence in Butler where family members found a male deceased in his home. Investigation revealed death to be accidental in nature.

 
On July 22 we responded to a residence outside Butler where a female was found deceased by family members. This case also remains open pending some test results.

 
On July 25 we responded to a residence in Rich Hill where a female was found deceased by family members. Pending additional testing the case is open at this time.

On July 29 we were contacted by report of a death at Bates County Memorial Hospital ER; investigation reveals a death due to natural causes.

 
For the month of July the office reviewed 6 reports of death under hospice/nursing care.

I just wanted to put a little information about the happening in your Circuit Court office in the last four years. 

Since taking office, we have had some Legislation changes and court rulings that have changed the collection of court costs and fines. The State did away with the Fine Collection Center (FCC). 

Those fees are no longer collected by a 3rd party and collected by the Court. Due to a Court ruling we no longer collect board bill for the Sheriff’s Office. 

Those fees are still owed but no longer our responsibility to collect.
Below are fees, fines & court cost collected for the previous years. This money is turned over to the County for General Revenue and other line items for the County.

2020- 261,492.64
2021-308,650.79
2022- 170,784.81 as of June 30th

During Covid-19 my staff worked non-stop to meet the needs of the Court. We never stopped having mandated Court hearings. If you meet one of my staff be sure to give them a high five or a pat on the back for a job well done!
