Obituary - Douglas Delbert Williams

Douglas Delbert Williams, “Doug” to all that knew him, peacefully passed away on July 22, 2022. Graveside memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, October 15, 2022 in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Harrisonville, Missouri. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Doug was born on August 31, 1953 in California to Dwaine and Bernadine Williams. He was the youngest of three and at a young age, he and his family moved to Denver, Colorado where Doug was raised and graduated from Bear Creek High School. He later moved to Longmont, Colorado with his former spouse and their two children where he worked building homes. After a couple of years, the family moved to Sandpoint, ID and spent a winter managing a hotel and doing what Doug always loved to do, experiencing the wilderness. After a brief return to Colorado, the family moved to Campbell County, Wyoming. Doug raised his two young children, Nathan and Reggie, solely for five years before marrying Connie McCreedy, the woman he cherished, adored and would spend the rest of his life with. His union with Connie blended two families that brought together a son and four daughters that he took great pride in providing for, protecting and nurturing. Doug would later retire from a successful career in the natural gas industry and live the rest of his life in retirement, enjoying his family and his home in Wright, WY.

Doug could not have been more happy living anywhere but in Wyoming. He loved the beauty of the wide-open spaces, freedom to live how he chose and the down-to-earth community for whom he shared many values. Although he did not necessarily enjoy the harsh Wyoming winter weather, he tolerated it because it brought the opportunity to snow ski and he felt that it helped to keep the “riff-raff” away. His first priority in life was God, but his family was his passion and a close second. Most of his vacation time was spent hunting across the state of Wyoming, which brought him much joy, relaxation and contentment. He rarely missed a hunting season and particularly enjoyed elk hunting in the higher elevations. He spent considerable time working on and around his home, which brought him a sense of accomplishment and would always be his preferred place to be as long as family was there with him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Jerry (Vickie), daughter Stephanie (Bennie) Donnelly, granddaughters Victoria Williams Litle and Anna Williams, and great-granddaughter Penelope Litle. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Connie Williams, daughters Robin Beckman, Melinda Merchant (Larry) and Reggie Claflin (Paul), son Nathan Williams (Leah), sister Jackie Bronson, brothers-in-law Randy (Roseann) Moore and Dannie Moore, sister-in-law Charlene (Wayne) Varns, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Obituary - Thomas W. "Tom" Madison

Thomas W. “Tom” Madison, 56, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, as the result of a brain injury sustained in a motorcycle accident in Kansas City, Kansas on July 23, 2022. Tom was born July 6, 1966, son of William “Bill” Madison and Margie (Peterson) Madison in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Tom lived in Fort Scott during his early childhood before the family moved to Adrian, Missouri, then Columbus, Kansas to further his father’s career as a teacher and a coach. The family returned to Fort Scott Tom’s sixth grade year. He attended Fort Scott schools through graduation from Fort Scott High School in 1984, where he was active in FFA. He earned his associate degree from Fort Scott Community College in 1986 where he was on the Rodeo Team and the Livestock Judging Team. He then attended Kansas State University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education in 1990.

After graduating from Kansas State, Tom taught two years of high school Agriculture and FFA in Lewiston, Nebraska, then moved to Paxico, Kansas where he managed the Tiffany Springs Ranch, then the Laflin Ranch in Olsburg, Kansas. He returned home to Fort Scott in 1995. He worked for Mid-Continental Restoration for several years before returning to teaching Agriculture and FFA for two years in Pleasanton, Kansas. In the mid-2000’s Tom began Madison Trucking and had been in the business of contracting to haul cattle since that time. In recent years, he also worked for his cousin Billy Madison at Spring Hill Pork Processors.

Tom (and Lindsay) Madison have two daughters, Kendall, and Lauren, who he spent great time with during their 4-H years showing swine and other livestock at the Bourbon County Fair as well as traveling to show in a regional series, the Kansas State Fair, and the American Royal. He spent many years during and after college competing in rodeos and team ropings where he developed many close friendships that lasted a lifetime. If any family or friends ever needed a hand, he could build or fix about anything and was always willing to help. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, knew someone everywhere he went, and could be heard anywhere nearby with his big laugh.
