Update: Stolen antique sign from rural Butler found

Mid America Live spoke with the owner of this stolen sign from rural Butler a few months ago. 

The sign has been recovered and is currently in possession of the Bates County Sheriff's Office until the investigation is concluded. 

We have reached out to the Sheriff's Office and hoping to follow up with charges and any arrests that may be made. 


Aggravated Battery Arrest in Pittsburg Kansas

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were called to a residence in the 300 block of West Quincy in reference to a disturbance.

When officers arrived at this location, they were informed that the 73-year-old victim had gone to a residence in the 600 block of Normal Street in Pittsburg to repossess a vehicle. 

During this attempt, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Tarek Mekkaoui of Pittsburg, got into the vehicle and began to back up. In doing so, the victim was struck with the driver’s side door, which had been opened by the victim in an attempt to prevent Mekkaoui from leaving the area. The victim sustained observable injury to his right leg during this incident.

Tarek Mekkaoui was arrested, without incident, by officers for aggravated battery. He was transported to the Crawford County Jail where he was issued a $25,000.00 bond.

Warsaw man seriously injured in Benton County Crash

On August 26th around 5:53 a.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Benton County along with Benton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Route C West of Schenewark Ave.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2015 Nissan driven by 26 year old Walker L. Knox of Warsaw, Missouri traveled off the roadway and struck two trees.

Walker L. Knox sustained serious injuries and he was transported by air ambulance to University Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri for treatment.

D.A.R makes donation to Carpenters Cup

 


 The D.A.R. Harmony Mission Chapter made a much welcomed monetary donation to the Carpenter's Cup this week as seen here. L-R Phyllis Boren, JoAnn Buterbaugh, Bccky Clift and D.A.R Treasurer Linda Barr. For anyone interested in learning more about the Harmony Mission chapter, the public is welcomed to join as they meet regularly at the Butler Public Library on the second Monday of the month at 1:30 pm.

Bates County Sheriffs Office flocked!!!

The Bates County Sheriffs Office seems to have gained some friends over night! We’ve been flocked! 

If you haven’t heard but have been seeing the flamingos all over town, this is a fundraiser for Butler High School’s project prom and for $40 you can flock your friends too! 

This is such a fun idea, thanks for including the Sheriffs Office!

Obituary - William "Bill" Louis Walkington

William Louis Walkington of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on August 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. We will celebrate Bill’s life with a visitation at Cullen Funeral Home (Raymore, MO) on Saturday, August 27th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

A graveside service with military honors will follow at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption, where Bill found his best dog friend, Danny Boy.

Bill was born on October 20, 1938, in Marshall, Missouri. Bill started out as a talented cabinet maker and spent most of his career as a highly respected asphalt engineer. He was known as an expert in the asphalt industry, traveling to repair and advise plants across North America, and invented several successful patents. Bill served proudly in the Army National Guard, retiring after 22 years at the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1960, Bill married the love of his life, Joyce Ann, and their 56 years of marriage was a source of joy and a model for others in their lives. They were blessed with a son, Lee. Together, Bill and Joyce enjoyed country life, started small farms twice, remodeled several houses, and took road and train trips across the country. Bill had a talent for fixing up farm equipment and cars and spent much of his time working in his shop. He loved nothing more than spending a sunny day at a tractor show, or letting his adventurous spirit run wild dreaming up new mechanical inventions.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann, parents Louis Walkington and Marie Fitzgerald, brother Robert Walkington, and nephew Michael Walkington. He is survived by his son Lee Walkington (Ginny); niece and daughter of his heart Kelly Sleeper-Keegan (Patrick); sisters-in-law Sharon Johnson and Marty Walkington; brother-in-law Larry Lamb (Debbie); nephews and nieces Bryan Sleeper, Gina Staus (Mike), Shane Walkington (Kathy), Kevin Tunis (LaVera), Gay Otten (Mark), and Robert Risner (Marla); great-nephews Coty Sleeper (Megan) and Lane Sleeper; and honorary grandchildren Kendall and Brendan Keegan, Kaitlyn, Kensley and Karleigh Sleeper, Ariana Hardy and Emmani Loyd.

Harrisonville woman killed in crash near Belton

On August 25th around 8:55 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies, Belton Police Department and Raymore Police Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 at Missouri 58 Highway in Belton.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the northbound 1997 Chevrolet S-10 driven by 66 year old Linda S. Christiansen of Harrisonville, Missouri ran off the roadway, struck a roadway sign before overturning and ejecting the driver.

Linda S. Christiansen was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and she was released to Frontier Forensics. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the accident scene by J's Southland Tow.

This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 39th Fatality Crash of the year 2022.

Obituary - Miguel Campos

Miguel Campos, age 77, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. Miguel's wishes were to be cremated. A family reunion/Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00-9:00 PM on September 3, 2022 at Hill Park (23rd & Maywood) Independence, Missouri.

Miguel was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 25, 1945 to Agnes & Joseph Campos. Miguel moved to Glasgow, Missouri in 2003 with his late wife Judy Campos.

Miguel enjoyed fishing, hunting, going camping and watching wrestling. He loved his family and loved his model cars. He will be greatly missed by so many.

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy Campos, his parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his children; Tina Gerky of Kansas City, Missouri, Trisha (Jerry) Skinner of Clinton, Missouri, Miguel Campos, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Tammy (Aaron) Fletcher of Hepler, Kansas, 3 sisters; Esther of Independence, Maria of Belton, Tina of Kansas City, Missouri, 2 brothers; Tom (Webba) of Independence, Missouri, Sam (Jannel) of Independence, Missouri, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
