Obituary - Ken "Fat Daddy" Koechner

Ken Koechner, aka "Fat Daddy", passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022. He was born on October 9, 1957 in Kansas City Kansas the son of Norbert and Marjorie Woltkamp Koechner. Fat Daddy was a man of many words.

He loved his family and he loved his friends. A man that never spoke of his accomplishments, but, was incredibly proud of them. He loved operating equipment, whether it be mowing pasture, raking hay, digging dirt or taking buggy rides. He was never in a hurry to go anywhere but enjoyed where he was going and where he was coming from. His passion was the kids and guns, but most of all his wife.

He enjoyed planting pumpkins with the grandkids every year and loved how many others he was able to share his bountiful crop with. He always enjoyed his gambling trips with friends, either to Vegas or the local casino with "co-oping" being always the best bet.

He was the life of every party and he never met a stranger. His BBQ was the best, even though Donna cooked it...PR man was a very important role! His words of wisdom were actually a fact. He loved traditions, no matter what they were. He was king of "let's have a drink and think about, Picasso never made a painting overnight.

He would jew a blind man out of his walking stick. His yard always looked like a golf course and Better Homes and Gardens was on the way to photograph it. He lived in God's Country, just ask him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Marjorie, and a brother, Steve Koechner.

Fat Daddy is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Donna, son Shaun(Sherry), daughter, Samantha(Bret), grandchildren, Grant, Allie, Konnor, Kennedi and Kash, four brothers, Mike, Gene, Scott, and Alan, Godmother, Della Mallen, Godson, Winston Koechner, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many many friends. He was known by many, and loved by all.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Memorial Contributions can be made to Linn County Care to Share. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

New owners at The Garage Burgers and Brew

It is with bitter sweet emotions that after being in the restaurant business for 30 plus year we have decided to sell.

The new owners are Johnny Truninger and his fiancé Danielle Taylor. They will take over September 1st. Johnny has been our kitchen manager for 7 1/2 years.

He knows what it take to run things efficiently. He takes pride in serving our customers.

Danielle worked for us several years ago as a server, you may remember her. She has a wonderful personality and works hard making sure the customers are happy. This will be a great opportunity for them.

We could not have found anyone better to take over our business. To all our friends and customers, thank you for your support and kindness. We have made many friends through out the years. We hope you will continue to dine in the restaurant, as we will as customers. Again thank you for your support and love.

Raymore Police Chief Jan Zimmerman Retires

After a decade of service to the residents of Raymore, Police Chief Jan Zimmerman retires today.

"It’s truly been my pleasure serving alongside the men and women of the Raymore Police Department," Zimmerman said. "They have a level of concern for this community and its citizens that makes me proud to have been a part of this organization for the past 10 years."

Zimmerman started her law enforcement career as a dispatcher for the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department in 1979. She was sworn in as a KCPD police officer in 1982, and worked her way up to major before coming to Raymore as chief in 2012.

A few of Zimmerman’s accomplishments include bringing the Community Against Crime event and chaplain and school resource officer programs to Raymore, as well as the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program – after first introducing it to KCPD – which ensures that all officers receive extensive training in crisis intervention so they respond effectively and appropriately to individuals in crisis. She worked with members of the community to bring body-worn cameras to every Raymore officer and also upgraded police policy twice and published the department’s Policies & Procedures Manual on the City’s website.

Zimmerman serves as the program director for the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund (SAFE) with the Kansas City Crime Commission, is a governor-appointed board member of the Missouri Gaming Commission, a board member of the Greater KC Public Safety Credit Union and is involved with the Kansas City Metro Chiefs and Sheriffs Association and Missouri Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Association.

In May, Zimmerman was awarded the 2021 Donald “Red” Loehr Outstanding Police Chief Award by the Missouri Police Chiefs Association.

Deputy Chief Jim Wilson will be sworn in as Chief of Police at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 at City Hall’s Council Chambers.

No stranger to Raymore, Wilson has 29 years of service with the Raymore Police Department and most recently served as commander of the Operations Division.
