Barricaded male in Belton

On 9-1-2022 at approximately 12:45 PM, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Hargis Lane in Belton on a disturbance involving a firearm.

Prior to officers arrival, a female subject escaped the residence and was taken to a secure location by officers. A male subject was contacted in the street and he was armed with a gun.

 
As a precautionary measure, a nearby elementary school was placed on lockdown and school bus routes were altered to avoid the area.

Officers have cordoned off the area to contain the suspect and negotiations with the suspect are ongoing.

Obituary - Larry Dean Poole

Larry Dean Poole, age 57, Mound City, Kansas passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1965 in Paola, Kansas the son of Frank and Cheryl(Price) Poole. He graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School in the Class of 1983.

He attended Fort Scott Community College. Larry served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Army. He was a member of the Boilermaker's Union Local #83.

Larry loved kids, riding Harleys, hunting, fishing, and shooting. He was a Godly man that regularly read his Bible. Larry is survived by his parents, Frank and Cheryl Poole, sons, Questen, Quinten and Quincy Poole, daughter, Mackenleigh Poole, brothers, Brian Poole(Janet), and Corey Poole(Dez), and a sister Jennifer Moore(Mike).

Graveside funeral service will be 10 am Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Linville Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 7, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.

Obituary - Elsie Elaine McGehee

Funeral services for Elsie McGehee of Olathe, Kansas will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2022 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Elsie Elaine McGehee, age 77 of Olathe, Kansas died Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Butler Center in Butler, Missouri. She was born December 5, 1944 to Elbert Luco and Lois Neely McGehee in Douglas, Wyoming.

Elsie, one of six children, grew up in Douglas, Wyoming. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1963 and attended KCCBS, (Kansas Christian College) and the Conservatory of Music at UMKC. She was very talented in piano and had a beautiful singing voice. Elsie worked for Hallmark Cards and Farmer’s Insurance Group and was a caregiver in private homes. Her last job before retiring was with Comfort Keepers.

Elsie enjoyed many things in her spare time . . . playing the piano, singing, reading, cooking and keeping her apartment clean. She loved her Lord and leaves many wonderful memories for her family to cherish. She attended the Church of God (Holiness) in Olathe, Kansas.

Elsie is survived by five siblings, Ella Marie McClendon of Quapaw, Oklahoma, Elbert Neely McGehee and wife Cathy of Butler, Missouri, Lucille Schinzel and husband Jerome of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Melba Brewer and husband Gary of Arkansas City, Kansas and Ruth Warren and husband Dave of Pleasanton, Kansas; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Lois McGehee; and two brothers-in-law, Don Rasco and Garry McClendon.

Bridge work set for September 6th in Henry County

Henry County – The Missouri Route 52 bridge over the Katy Trail in Windsor will be CLOSED for up to 222 days beginning the week of September 6th.

Contractor crews will replace the current bridge with a reinforced concrete box culvert accommodating two 11-foot lanes and shoulders. In addition, permanent striping and guardrail will be installed along the box culvert.

The current bridge was built in 1945 and is in deteriorating condition. Approximately 3,340 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Traffic impacts:

• All lanes of Route 52 CLOSED at the bridge for the duration of the project

• Katy Trail CLOSED for duration of the project with detour provided around the work zone

• Drivers will have access to entrances and driveways at either end of the bridge but will not be able to travel through the work zone

• Drivers will be directed along a signed detour using Missouri Route 2 and Henry County Route J

• Drivers are urged to find alternate routes

• Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the work zone

• Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Obituary - Larry Wayne Henry

Larry Wayne Henry was born to Lee and Effie Henry on April 23, 1958. He was the youngest child of five children. He was born at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, MO.

Larry spent his young years in the Olympia and Montevallo, Missouri, area. Larry loved to play hunting with his toy gun and dog. He would wander for hours around the farm in Montevallo under his mother's watchful eye from the upstairs window.

Larry attended the El Dorado Springs C.P. Center for many years and the Hazel Dell Missionary Baptist Church along with his family.

Lee and Effie moved from Montevallo to El Dorado springs in 1973 for retirement. Larry still enjoyed coming to the farm to see the cows, and his brother Kent even took him on a motorcycle ride.

When Larry was 30 years old, with Lee's failing health and Effie's cancer treatments, Larry went to live with Freda and Andy Gonzalez, who opened their loving arms. Freda loved and spoiled Larry as much as he was by his mother.

Larry loved to go for rides to get milkshakes and red pop. He loved music and would play the record player and radio for hours. He always enjoyed family and small animals. Freda made him a slideshow of his family he would watch for hours. Andy and Freda had a 60th birthday party for Larry with family and friends. One special person in Harry's life was Macy, who could always make him smile.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Effie Henry, and a brother-in-law Norman Highley, who always gave him Dutch rub.

Larry is survived by his sister Joyce Highley, brother Dean and wife Barbara Henry, brother Vernal and wife Sharyl Henry, brother Kent and wife Bonnie Henry, Freda and Andy Gonzalez, many nephews and nieces, and other family and friends.

Escaped Lansing Correctional Facility inmate possible sighting in Cass County

Last night, acting on a tip, the Pleasant Hill Police Department and the US Marshal Service conducted an investigation into a possible Pleasant Hill sighting of escaped Lansing Correctional Facility inmate Michael Stroede.

Our investigation was able to determine that the person observed was not Michael Stroede.

Video surveillance of the reported person was located and used to determine that it was not Stroede.

We appreciate our community’s willingness to aid law enforcement and report when they see someone or something unusual.

Stroede is 5′10′', 180 pounds with hazel eyes and a shaved head. He has several tattoos across his upper body and arms.
