Obituary - Marion G. Jantz

Marion G. Jantz, 104, formerly of Metz, MO, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Bungalows of Nevada. 

Marion was born July 13, 1918 in rural Hesston, KS to Daniel and Anna Mae (Steiner) Jantz. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Decker on March 16, 1947 in Halstead, KS and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2016.

Marion was raised in rural Hesston, KS and attended a country school there. Following his marriage to Evelyn they came to Missouri in 1948 and made their home in the rural Metz area. Marion, who farmed his entire life, resided on the farm that he loved in Metz for 67 years before moving into Nevada in 2015. He was a longtime member of the Bethany Mennonite Church in Rich Hill.

Marion is survived by four children: Daniel Jantz, Nevada, Velma Boehs (Harold), Nevada, Mary Koehn, Richards, and Phyllis Hiebert (Ray), Saragosa, TX; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Emily Nachtigal, Hutchison, KS; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Evelyn, he was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Adella Jantz, Bernice Nightingale, Waneta Amstutz, and Roma Jantz; five brothers, Cecil Jantz, Marcellus Jantz, Glenn Jantz, Jason Jantz, and Donald Jantz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Bethany Mennonite Church in Rich Hill. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery, Rich Hill. The family will receive friends from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the church.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to the Bethany Benevolent Fund c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

One seriously injured in Cedar County motorcycle crash

On September 3rd around 9:57 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cedar County along with Cedar County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a motorcycle wreck on Route J around 4 miles north of Stockton, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the northbound 2012 Triumph Thunderbird Motorcycle driven by 25 year old Dustin A. Reed of Humansville, Missouri ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned, striking a highway sign and ejecting Mr. Reed from the motorcycle.

Dustin A. Reed sustained serious injuries and he was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri for medical treatment.

Springfield man injured in Nevada rollover accident

On September 3rd around 4:15 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on 1550 Road in Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2015 Cadillac ATS driven by 25 year old Skyler Q. Buckmaster of Springfield, Missouri became airborne while crossing railroad tracks and overturned.

A passenger in the vehicle 35 year old Joseph T. Pippen of Springfield, Missouri sustained moderate injuries and he was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment.

The Butler Police Department has taken numerous theft reports this last week around town.

Storage sheds and vehicles seem to be the popular places to break into for local thieves.

Please lock your vehicle and take all valuables out of them also check your storage sheds frequently.

BHS Cross Country Team headed to Bolivar today

The BHS Cross Country Team headed to Bolivar today for the SWCCCA Richard Clark Invitational. On the girls side, we had four competing.

The girls were led by junior Cadence Turney with a time of 23:28. Following Cadence was senior Gillian Dowell with a time of 24:17, senior Brielle Campbell with a 28:08, and sophomore Avery Eldred with a time of 29:21. Cadence (11th place) and Gillian (17th place) both medaled for Class 2. The girls put out a good race for the start of the season and really pushed themselves throughout the rave.

On the boys side we had five boys competing. They were led by freshman Brandon Hammett with a time of 18:44. This time is also a NEW SCHOOL RECORD! 

Following Brandon were seniors Jake Cox with a time of 20:16, Jerrun Kennedy with a time of 21:25, and Andrew Clutter with a time of 22:10. Bringing in the pack was sophomore Kenny Waring with a time of 24:00.

The boys placed 4th out of all Class 2 schools and had two medalists. Brandon Hammett, 10th place, and Jake Cox 21st place. The boys really showed what their summer training was all for. They went out there and competed!

Natalee Kennedy was our lone junior high runner. She ran a strong race with a time of 14:58. Next weekend we head up to Rep-Pec for our next meet!

Obituary - Jessie Louise Jacobs

Jessie Louise (Culbertson) Jacobs, age 73, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. She was born June 19, 1949, in El Dorado Springs, MO to Jesse and Zelpha (Tudor) Culbertson.

Jessie was united in marriage to Steven Jacobs, Sr. on June 26, 1965. To this union three sons were born. Jessie attended school in El Dorado Springs, MO. After high school,she was employed at Junior House in Nevada, MO. She went on to attend Vatterott College and finished her career as a cook for the Nevada School District.

Jessie loved spending time with her family, especially her sister Judy. She loved playing Yahtzee, putting puzzles together, reading her bible and watch game shows.

Jessie is survived by her three sons, Steven Jacobs, Jr. of Nevada, MO, Stanley Jacobs of Nevada, MO, and Stewart Jacobs and his wife Kerrie of Butler, MO; six grandchildren, Hayley Belanger and husband Mike, Mitchell Jacobs and wife, Beth, Quinton Jacobs, Jessica Koger and husband Jonathan, Kyler Jacobs, and Kale Jacobs; seven great-grandchildren, Keylee Jacobs, Kade Jacobs, Kameron Jacobs, Riggin Koger, Emmett Belanger, Hunter Belanger, and Elijah Jacobs; three siblings, Judy Eason, Dick Culbertson and wife Rhonda, and Robin Woody and husband Nick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Zelpha Culbertson, her husband Steven Jacobs, Sr., and one grandson, Kevin Jacobs.

The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Wright Cemetery, southeast of El Dorado Springs, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00-700 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Memorials may be made in Jessie’s honor to “Giving Fore Living” to promote organ donation, with the funeral home serving as custodian.

No doubt the county will miss Marlene!!

Bates County Clerk Marlene Wainscott was honored at the Annual Missouri County Clerks and Election Authorities Conference which was held in Springfield, Missouri on Thursday September 1st.

Marlene received a plaque from her years of service to the county from 1995-2022.

She plans on retiring at the end of the year! December 30th will be her last day. Thank you for all your years of service to the people of Bates County!

We want to wish you a very happy and enjoyable retirement!

Clinton woman injured in early morning Henry County crash

On September 2nd around 6:00 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Route U at SE 420th Road.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2021 Jeep Renegade driven by 60 year old Nora L. Learned-Chandler of Clinton, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Nora L. Learned-Chandler sustained minor injuries and she was transported to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment.
