Obituary - Charlie Ray Robie

Charlie Ray Robie, age 71, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

In accordance with Charlie’s wishes, there are no services scheduled. Instead, he wished to be remembered in a celebration of life, which will be scheduled at a later time.

Charlie was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on November 26, 1950 to Carl William and Wanda Jean Robie (Starns). Charlie was a wonderful man who will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. He fell deeply in love with music and songwriting at a very young age. His earliest influences include the great folk artists of the sixties and, of course, The Beatles. He played in various country western bands throughout Kansas City and Manhattan, Kansas. Charlie was also very proud to have been a celebrated, two time inductee in the Kansas Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! At the end of the day, Charlie’s favorite moments were sitting by a bonfire, laughing and playing music for his family and friends.

Other passions Charlie enjoyed in life include stargazing, spending time with family, fishing, squirrel hunting, chopping wood, watching the Price is Right, long talks on the phone and taking care of his yard in which he took much pride.

Charlie is proceeded in death by his loving grandmother, Mary Robie. His parents, Carl and Wanda Robie (James); Step dad, BJ James; sister Marsha Demoss and brother Jimmy James.

Left to cherish Charlie’s memory are his children, Jessica Robie Mitchell (Scott), Hannah Robie, Hunter Robie and Courtney Mahon (Christy). Two brothers, Jerry James (Becky) and Danny James (Rene), and sister Patricia Sanderholm; and nine grandchildren, Quinton Hamm, Braiden Mahon, Ryan Mahon, Paxton Jones, Stella Rae Jones, Allison Robie, Sydney Elliot, Cadence Robie and Layne Robie. As well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Charlie will be missed by all that were fortunate to spend time with him. His music will be a large part of his legacy.
