MDC warns of campfire safety

As cooler temperatures arrive, many people enjoy a nice campfire. If you are going to have a campfire, remember to extinguish it before you leave.

Unattended campfires can quickly get out of hand in dry conditions, turning into a damaging wildfire. This fire was left unattended next to a large, wooded tract of timber at an Missouri Department of Conservation area.

The local agent responded and extinguished the fire before it could have spread into the nearby timber.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather at a local conservation area and remember to extinguish all campfires before leaving them.
