Obituary - Russell Charles Snyder

Russell Charles Snyder, 87, of Fort Scott, left this earthly home to join his loved ones in Heaven on Saturday evening, October 1, 2022 at Medicalodges Fort Scott. He was born March 10, 1935 to Lawrence and Dora (Russell) Snyder at rural Redfield, KS.

Russell had many adventures as a young teenager, traveling the country by foot and train, working for various farmers. He married Clara Fern Wise on September 1, 1955. 

To this union they lovingly added two children, Shelly and Charles. Through the years, Clara and Russell had many fur babies with which they shared their lives. They always doted on their fur children and were very saddened when any of them were lost. Russell cherished their memory and loved to talk about them. Clara preceded him in death on February 25, 2011 and was always fondly spoke of and remembered by Russell. He served in the Korean War with the United States Army from January 1958 to December 1959 gaining numerous memories from his time stationed there. 

He drove an over the road truck most of his adult life, hauling various products and obtaining many stories along the way. Later he worked for Peerless Products of Fort Scott until his retirement at age 62; he then hauled cattle and worked at Fort Scott Livestock Company until his full retirement at age 75. 

He very much enjoyed sharing anecdotes of his life and journeys around the country. There was never a time when visiting with Russell that you didn’t leave without hearing, very colorfully, quite a few of his life reminiscences. He has left his family with a multitude of stories to continue sharing and remembering with joy and laughter, as they hear his voice retelling them repeatedly.

Those left to celebrate his life include a son, Charles and wife Kerri of Fort Scott; a daughter, Shelly Shoemaker of Joplin, MO; four grandchildren, Jordan Snyder, Lakin Snyder, Christopher Snyder, and Jacob Snyder all of Fort Scott; three step-grandchildren, Kori Shoemaker and partner Jerry Morgan, Kyli Gates and husband Jason, and Kade Colegrove all of Fort Scott; one great-grandchild, Oaklynn Snyder of Fort Scott; three step-great-grandchildren, Joeli Morgan, Rystan Morgan, and Breckett Gates all of Fort Scott. A wonderful friend and neighbor, Fred Mitzner and wife Ermalea of Fort Scott. Along with three nephews and a niece, Rick Snyder and wife Judy of Iola, KS, Wayne Hall and wife Julie of Sedan, KS; Mary Jo Larue of Linwood, KS and Larry Snyder and wife Danita of Pleasanton, KS.

Those Russell joins in God’s loving arms include his wife, Clara; his father and mother; a brother, Lloyd Snyder and his wife Treva; a sister, Marybelle Hall and her husband Joe; two nephews and a great-nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Paws & Claws and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Obituary - Randall Wayne Bowen

Randall “Randy” Wayne Bowen, age 70, of Stockton, MO, died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at his home following a long illness. Randy was born February 26, 1952, in West Plains, MO, to Carl Wayne and Frankie Nell (Bransetter) Bowen, and they moved to Nevada, MO in 1960. At age 14, he went to work at Little Maxwell’s Market on Atlantic Street. 

After graduating High School in 1970, he went to work at Crane Plumbing. He was one of the first 20 people hired for the new plant. On October 24, 1970, he married Dianna Kay Baker, and soon they moved to Moundville, MO.

Randy enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing. He also enjoyed scuba diving and spearfishing, where he always looked forward to his spearfishing trips to Bull Shoals Lake in AR. In 2014, he and Dianna, moved to Stockton, MO, where they had camped and fished, most of their married life. He retired January 2015, after 44 ½ years at the same place.

Randy is survived by his wife Dianna, of the home; three sisters. Carleta (Don) Burnett, Joy (John) Jeffries, and Pam Bowen (Tom); a sister-in-law, Sherry (Darrell) Snowden; and a special friend, Philip Gordon, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were.

There will be a private family inurnment at Moundville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Moundville Cemetery with the funeral home serving as custodian.

The HHS Traction team received the Kansas City Region Show Me Zero Award at the 2022 Highway Safety Heroes Awards Banquet on Sept. 28 hosted by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The HHS Traction team is focused on pedestrian and driving safety and works in conjunction with the Harrisonville Cares Coalition - a community organization with the same focus.

The coalition completed an initiative to keep pedestrians safer by partnering with the Harrisonville Streets Department, in which they installed crosswalk flashers and signs throughout the city. In 2022, Harrisonville Traction members, with the help of School Resource Officer Ramsey, testified before a Missouri Senate Committee to advance the Distracted Driving Legislation in conjunction with the “Hands-Free Missouri” members. Traction members also promote the “Buckle Up. Phones Down” initiative through various activities at the high school and in the community.

MDC congratulates 17 new conservation agents on their 2022 graduation

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) congratulates 17 new conservation agents upon their graduation from MDC’s 2022 Conservation Agent Training Academy. The agent class of 2022 took the Conservation Agent’s Oath during a special graduation ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City.

“Missourians have placed such high trust in this agency, and the best way to guard this public trust is to take care of our citizens,” said MDC Director Sara Parker Pauley. “As a conservation agent, you play a key role in creating the customer experience and have the opportunity to positively impact so many people across the state.”

MDC Protection Branch Chief Randy Doman reminded new agents the importance of recognizing the conservation professionals that came before them.

“We are part of a storied conservation history here in Missouri, and now it’s your turn,” said Doman. “It’s your time to cultivate, to feed, and to grow that conservation ethic and protect the fish, forest, and wildlife resources that we all cherish today.”

The new agents spent the past six months housed at the Highway Patrol Academy in Jefferson City. They received more than 1,200 hours of intense instruction both in and out of the classroom throughout the state. Agents received training in criminal investigations, defensive tactics, firearms qualifications, and technical instruction in fish, forest, and wildlife management. Training also included courses in legal studies, communications and conducting education programs, and First Aid/First Responder and CPR certification.

Upon successful completion of this training, the agents are issued a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) license from the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The conservation agent training program is also certified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship.

The 17 new agents joining the 195 existing MDC agents in serving and protecting Missouri’s fish, forest, and wildlife include: Ryan Catron, Avery Crisp, Kenneth (Drew) Davis, Ricky Dawson, Cole Eidson, Nicholas (Nick) Freeman, Landon Leonard, Makayla Leppert, John Lowe, Austin (A.J.) Musche, Jacob Myers, Katlin (Katie) Potter, Samuel (Sam) Schick, Katie Stoner, Taylor Stutzman, Taressa Wise, and Paul Wright.

The new agents have been assigned their counties. However, they will be involved in field training operations and special assignments while under the supervision of veteran field agents for a six-week period during which they will acquire vital field experience.

Obituary - Betty L. Wisdom

Betty L. Wisdom age 90 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday October 10, 2022 at Dickey Funeral Home Harrisonville, Missouri. 

Family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel with internment in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Creighton, Missouri.

Ellett Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for October 2022

Congratulations to Brenda Clark, Lab Tech for being chosen October Employee of the Month for Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City! 

Brenda was nominated for being dedicated to our patients and our Lab department. She is always on time for her shifts and will stay over if busy without even being asked. 

Brenda goes above and beyond for all of her patients, she makes them feel welcomed and safe while having their labs drawn whether it's an admitted patient or a walk in patient.

She goes the extra step to make sure the orders are correct. She is the most positive worker in the Lab. Brenda has a great sense of humor and the patients Love her. She cares about this organization and raves about her fellow co-workers to patients. EMH is truly blessed to have Brenda as a vital part of our work family. Once again,
