Way to go Ladies

Two more Drexel Lady Cats were honored last night during the Jasper game. Gracie Marks reached the 2,000 assist mark and Paige Gordon recorded her 500th kill. These ladies reached their milestones during the Archie Tournament. 

Congratulations ladies for all your hard work and accomplishments so far this season.




Structure Fire early is morning in Nevada

On October 5th around 3:55 a.m. the Nevada Fire Department along with Nevada Police Department responded to a structure fire in the 700 Block of North Adams Street.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found a working fir in the attic of the residence. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the attic area.

No one was injured in this fire and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation at this time. 


Police Pursuit in Butler

On 10/5/2022 at approximately 2:00 a.m. a Bates County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of Business 49 and Ft Scott Street in Butler. The vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and took off east on Ft Scott.

The Deputy pursued the vehicle out of town until he was no longer able to keep a visual on the vehicle. 

The pursuit was then terminated. Additional deputies and Butler Police Department were called to assist with an area canvass of the vehicle

The vehicle was described as a blue 4 door car possibly a Chrysler 300 or Charger.

Butler JH basketball set to start October 10th

Butler JH basketball practices will begin next week, on October 10th. These practices are only for students who are not playing a fall sport.

As a reminder, students must have a full physical (six pages) on file in order to practice. Practice times and locations will be announced later this week.

Obituary - Galen Scott Cooper

Galen Scott Cooper, 53, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Belton, was born July 3, 1969, in Independence, the son of R.L. and Lois E. (Haegle) Cooper. He departed this life, Friday September 30, 2022, at his home.

Galen was a 1988 Belton High School graduate.

On February 14, 1992, he was united in marriage to Christina Burks in Miami, Oklahoma, and to this union one daughter, Whitney, was born. They later divorced.

Galen was employed as a Residential Home Carpenter last working for the Johnson Cabinet Co. in Pleasant Hill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, racing, and was an avid gun enthusiast.

Galen was preceded in death by his mother, Lois E. Ervin on December 6, 2021.

He is survived by his daughter, Whitney (and James) Ferm of Belton; his father, R.L. Cooper of Melbourne, Arkansas; two sisters, Sheila (and Norman) Larkey of Belton and April (and Jeff) Cotter of Kingsville; his step-father, Tim Ervin of Pleasant Hill; one step-brother, Chris Ervin of Kansas City; two step-sisters, April Ervin of Northmoor and Staci (and Daniel) Diamond of Scott City, California; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the funeral home.

Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Strasburg Cemetery. Pastor Ben Cotter will officiate.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Lay-Clergy Council and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

52 Highway east of Montrose now back open after semi truck rollover accident

Anyone traveling Appleton City to Clinton or anywhere in between needs to find a alternate route other than 52 Highway. 

Expect highway to be closed down for several hours due to semi rollover east of Montrose. 

We will update when roadway is back open. Please share with anyone who travels this area!

52 Highway is back open! Still use caution as some cleanup could still be going on but it is open!
