Arrest made after hit and run in Pittsburg Kansas

On October 28, 2022, officers with the Pittsburg Police Department, the Pittsburg Fire Department, and Crawford County EMS, were dispatched to the 1400 block of East 14th Street, in Pittsburg, in response to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. According to information gathered during the initial investigation, a pewter colored SUV was traveling westbound on 14th Street when it struck 43-year-old Melanie L Ishimura, of Pittsburg, and then fled the area without stopping to render aid.

Ms. Ishimura was initially transported to Ascension Via Christi Hospital by Crawford County EMS for injuries sustained when struck. Ms. Ishimura was later transferred to a Missouri hospital and is still listed in serious condition, but is expected to recover.

The Pittsburg Police Department reached out to the public for assistance with identifying the suspect vehicle, which was captured on a security camera in the area. Various tips and leads were generated from this public request.

On Monday afternoon, October 31, 2022, 46-year-old Brian Scott Walrod, of Cherokee, came to the police department with his attorney and turned himself in to the police. Walrod was placed under arrest for failure to stop at an accident resulting in great bodily injury. He was transported to the Crawford County Jail and police are requesting he be held without bond until such time he appears before the Court.

The Pittsburg Police Department continues to actively investigate this incident. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other incidents, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at 620-231-1700, or at our tip line, 620-231 TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.

Obituary - Kirk Falzone

Kirk David Falzone, 32 of Cleveland, Missouri was called home to the Lord on October 30, 2022 at his home. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Cleveland Baptist Church in Cleveland, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm Saturday, also at the church.

Cremation to follow services. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Kirk’s family c/o Mullinax Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Kirk was born on June 27, 1990 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born to Thomas J. Falzone and Karen S. Blue Menke.

Kirk was diagnosed as a toddler with low functioning, nonverbal Autism and epilepsy disorder. He graduated from Briarwood State School in Harrisonville, Missouri. He required full time one on one supervised care, which was lovingly provided by his mother (who all considered a Saint or Superhero). It took a lot of love, patience and dedication to care for Kirk’s needs day after day. To nurture someone so completely, and to do it for so long, takes a dedication and depth of love that is hard to comprehend for those who haven’t done it. Special thank you to Lori Brock for being one of Kirk’s main caregivers when away from his mom. His step-father Len always made sure he had a safe place whether at home or at the Lake.

Kirk could express his love with a look, smile, or with a squeeze. He gave us the gift of unconditional love. Unconditional love is loving even when it hurts, even when it’s not easy. It’s loving because you simply can’t help but love. And that is the greatest triumph of any life. To love and be loved. Kirk taught us how to love without words, without limits, without reasons.

Kirk loved taking naps with his brother Tommy, swinging in the yard in his swing, swimming in the pool with his brothers and sisters, taking bubble baths, singing Rock a bye baby in his own way, running out the door any chance he got.

Kirk found joy in satisfying his tactile senses by pulling arm or beard hair. Flapping his hands, rocking and yelling ANGIE over and over at the top of his lungs. Yelling at his dad, Tom when he would squeeze his cheeks ever so gently while smothering him with his Italian kisses. Part of his quirkiness was also taking off only his left sock, moaning, banging on the walls all times of the day, and biting his hand when expressing when he was unhappy. Family had loving nicknames for him like Kirky, Kirky Lurky and Kirkaladoo.

He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents, Jack and Claudine Blue, Paternal Grandparents, John and Bridget Falzone, Uncle Kirk Thomas Blue , Uncle Thomas A. Blue and God-Mother Vicki Scaletty.

Kirk is survived by his parents Thomas J. Falzone and Karen and Len Menke, siblings Shelly Hardin and her husband, Jared Hardin, Angie Grisafe and her husband Vince Grisafe, Thomas M. Falzone and Adam Menke. Four Aunts, Rita (Jerry) Svejda, Joan Falzone, Annette (John) Campbell, Lori (Dennis) Moore; three Uncles, Joe Falzone, Greg (Chuk) Lowry-Falzone and Chris Falzone; nine Nephews Noah Hardin, Antonio Grisafe, Luke Hardin, Matthew (Nicole) Grisafe, Nathan Martin, Isaac (Chloe) Hardin, Dyllan Martin, Trevor Grisafe, Tommy Falzone, four Nieces, Rebekah Hardin, Rayleigh Grisafe, Angel Falzone and Katelynn Grisafe, Great Nephew Colten Grisafe and one Great Niece Everly Grace on the way. Multiple cousins, extended family, friends and God Father Mark Scaletty.
