Obituary - Gloria Chenoweth

Gloria Chenoweth, 101, of Harrisonville, MO (formerly of Freeman, MO) passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at her home. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. 

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM at Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, MO.

Obituary - Donald Ray Belcher

Donald Ray Belcher, 78, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Don was born October 20, 1944 in Nevada to Carl and Geneva O. (Bains) Belcher. He married Sandra Lee Smith and to this union three children were born.

Don grew up in Nevada and attended high school there. He joined the United States Army and served two years while stationed overseas in Germany. Throughout his life Don worked in the food service business operating several restaurants in Nevada including the Daylight Doughnut Shop from 1980 – 1985, Opies Pizza for a time in the early 1990’s, as well as various other restaurant ventures in the area. He was also an avid casino enthusiast.

Survivors include two children, a daughter, Penny Burchell (Michael), Nevada, and a son, James Belcher, Republic, MO; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell Belcher, Oswego, KS, and Duane Belcher, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donalee Belcher; and a grandson, Joshua Belcher.

Memorial services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Search warrant served in Belton


On November 28th, 2022, at approximately 1:30 pm Deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on Honeysuckle Lane in Belton. Deputies located methamphetamine from inside the residence, as well as a stolen firearm.
 
Kevin Minkler (64) from Belton Missouri, was charged with one count of Delivering Controlled Substances, one count of Trafficking Drugs, one count of Unlawful Use Of A Weapon, one count of Unlawful Possession Of An Illegal Weapon, and one count of Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia.

He is currently being held in the Cass County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.

Much colder tonight - Wednesday

Much colder temperatures will settle into the area this evening and overnight. With gusty northwest winds, wind chill values will fall into the teens and single digits by early Wednesday morning. Highs will only recover to the mid and upper 30s to near 40°.


Theft report taken in rural Rich Hill

On November 19th the Bates County Sheriff's Office Deputies took a report of a theft at 6962 SW 1007 Cr Rich Hill Mo. The victim stated multiple items were stolen from the property.

Items stolen are:
1969 SL90 Honda Dirt Bike
infrared heater new in the box
GoKart with a double seat.
Yellow Honda Moped

The Victim provided security camera footage from the property to the Deputies. There were two sets of couples that had been caught on camera taking the above items. 

One of the couples have been identified and on 11/23/2022 Deputies located them in Rich Hill and took the couple into custody. The deputies were able to recover the Infrared Heater and return it to the owner. The couple were placed in custody.

Charges are pending through the Prosecuting Attorney and further information will be released once the charges are filed.

Shots fired in rural Adrian

On 11/21/2022 Deputies were dispatched to the area of 14523 NW County Road 7501 Adrian Missouri of a reported subject that was shot at. On arrival the Deputies made contact with the victim. The victim stated that he owned property that bumps up with this address. 

He stated that he observed a fire that was spreading onto his property and attempted to make contact with the home owner. He stated that after he made contact with the home owner there was a verbal altercation between the two about putting the fire out. He stated that when he was headed back to his vehicle he heard a single gun shoot coming from the house area.

Contact was made with the home owner and he was taken into custody without incident. The home owner acknowledged the argument and stated that he did fire a round with the intent to intimidate the victim as the victim was leaving. The gun used was recovered from the residence.
 
This is the second person in the last few months that stated they were in the adjacent field and heard gun fire come from the residence and they felt it was to intimidate them from being in the field. That subject left the field and call the Sheriff's Office but did not want to pursue charges at that time.

Zachary S Williams of Rural Adrian was charged with Assault in the second degree and Armed Criminal Action. Williams bond was set at $50,000 cash only . Williams is currently being held in the Bates County Jail.
