Obituary - Della Mae Gordon

Della Mae Gordon, 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in Nevada, Missouri. She was born August 1, 1930 in Nevada, Missouri, the daughter of Glenn H. and Grace Weakley. Della graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1948.

Following graduation, she worked for Armitage Hardware on the square in Nevada. Della married her sweetheart, Donald Lee Gordon on August 19, 1951, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. They moved to Jefferson City, Missouri where they had their first child. Della was a great cook and baker. She gardened and canned during the years they lived in St. Joseph, Missouri which was 1955-1966. She was president of the PTA and a Girl Scout Cookie Chairman. Della was an insurance agent for 30+ years, helping her community in their need for cancer-care and Medicare supplement policies. She and Don square danced many years in Nevada. They also enjoyed traveling to most of the US states in their motorhome.

In addition to her parents, Della was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lee Weakley on March 29, 2009 and her husband, Don on February 20, 2015. She is survived by her daughters, Pamella Lynn Hartley and husband Larry, of Seymour, IN, and Janice Lee Webb and husband Scott, of Nevada, MO; and a son Dave Scott Gordon of Springfield, MO; two nephews, Tom Weakley and Danny Gordon; nine grandchildren, Lucas Hartley, Isaac Hartley, Micah Hartley, Caleb Hartley, Michal Leah Bevers, April Wendt, Mitchell Gordon, Evan Gordon, and Brynn Gordon; her sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Memorials contributions are suggested to the Nevada Senior Center c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Larry Gene Ruble

Larry Gene Ruble, age 79, resident of Fort Scott, KS, died peacefully Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born November 26, 1943, in Fort Scott, the son of Ray and Mildred Lucille Neth Ruble. 

He graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1961. Larry attended Fort Scott Junior College for one year before beginning his career in the printing industry. 

He worked his first 10 years for Mid America Business Forms and the next 21 years with Ward-Kraft Business Forms until retirement. Larry married Janie Mae Davidson on June 17, 1966, and enjoyed 37 years together, remaining friends the remainder of her life. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed baseball, softball, team roping, bowling, golf, and playing poker (for over 50 years).

Survivors include a son, David Ruble and wife Angie, Minneapolis, KS; a daughter, Janette Boone and husband Cline, Shawnee, KS; a brother, Danny Ruble and wife Carol, Fort Scott; 7 grandchildren, Brooks Danahy, Claire Boone Lockwood and husband Braden, Cline E. Boone, Olivia Boone, Eleanor Boone, Wayne Ruble, and Mason Ruble; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his previous wife Janie, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Dosstter, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 6th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Hammond Community Building and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main St., Fort Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Very windy Friday and Friday evening!

Very strong and gusty winds are expected throughout the day Friday. During the day, winds may gust as high as 50 mph from the southwest ahead of a strong cold front. 

During the evening and into the overnight hours, a cold front moves through from northwest to southeast, shifting winds to the northwest. Winds may gust as high as 45 mph behind the front as well.


Adrian Blackhawks getting ready for state championship game!

Saturday marks the first ever meeting between the Adrian Blackhawks and East Buchanan Bulldogs. 

The Bulldogs are the defending State Champs and enter Saturday's contest with a 13-1 record and ranked #2 in the final regular season Class 1 AP Poll.

Adrian is making their third Show-Me Bowl appearance and will be looking for their second State Championship. 

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Adrian's first state championship as the 2002 team will be recognized before this Saturday's game.

The game will begin Saturday at 3pm in Columbia!

Obituary - Mechelle Renee Jones

Mechelle Renee Jones, age 55, of Nevada, MO, passed away at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO after a short battle with cancer.

Mechelle was born December 25, 1966, in La Habra, CA. to Robert Virgil and Anna Mae (Boyd) Jones, and grew up in California. She has lived in Nevada for the past 15 year and she had worked as a housekeeper at area nursing homes. She was a football fan, especially the Green Bay Packers, and loved going to the beach with her family

Mechelle is survived by a son, Robert Rockstad and is wife, of Whittier, CA; two brothers, Wallace Jones and his wife Jerri, and Herbert Jones, all of Nevada, MO; a sister, Mary Brinson and her husband Doug, of Frontenac, KS; one grandchild, Ava Rockstad; several nieces and nephews, as well as two special friends, Brenda Galviz an Bonnie Wilson.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister-in-law, Mary Jones.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2022, at Ferry Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in Newton Burial Park, in a private service.

Memorials are suggested to the family with the funeral home serving as custodian.
