Joyce Emma Post, 93, Nevada, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022 in Nevada.
She was born June 6th, 1929, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Mildred Murdy Newcomb and Vern Newcomb. She was the fourth born of six children. Joyce was married to Elmer C. Post on June 18, 1948, in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2011.
Joyce grew up in Arkansas, Iowa, and Kansas City MO. She graduated from Westport High School in 1946. She attended Kansas City Junior College. She was introduced to the love of her life by her brother James Newcomb who attended Cleveland Chiropractic College at the same time as her husband (Dr. Elmer Post).
Following his graduation in 1949, the couple moved to Nevada, MO to establish Post Chiropractic Office. As their family grew, Joyce thrived as a stay-at-home mom creating a warm and loving abode. She was active in her children’s lives, serving as PTA President, Cub Scout Leader, Room mother (sometimes for more than one classroom at a time) and she was involved with Vacation Bible school for many years.
In addition to being the office manager of their chiropractic office from 1972 to 2001, she was also involved in Thalia’s and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and active in the Methodist Women. She was an active Beta Sigma Phi member and was inducted into the Diamond Circle in 2011, honoring 60 years of membership.
Joyce and Elmer loved to travel. Early in their marriage they would often load “the kids” in the car and set off on a journey. It was often a drive through the countryside or a camping trip to the lake. It was sometimes a trip across the country. The adventures were numerous and delightful.
They were always full of fun, songs, and countless times included bologna sandwiches that she made in the front seat and passed back to the herd. Later in life, Joyce and Elmer were thrilled to be able to travel to St. Thomas, Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, England, and other destinations.
Wherever they went, they were always “side-by-side,” sharing a love we all aspire to. When they stayed home, they loved to host dinners, holidays, reunions, and birthday gatherings for their immediate family as well as for their extended families. Their hospitality was enjoyed by friends as well as family and they always made everyone feel welcome.
She will be fondly remembered by her sister Clara Frederickson and Clara’s husband Steve of Sequim, WA; her brother Paul Newcomb, St. Thomas, USVI; her six children and their families: Dr. Kay Carver (Dr. Gary), Kansas City, MO, Janet Erwin (Bill), Nevada, Deb Zoglmann (Steve), Nevada, Dr. Daniel Post (Cathy), Oklahoma City, OK, Don Post (Tina), Wheatland, MO, and Nancy Jeffries (Bill), Nevada; Fifteen grandchildren; Krista Carver, Kimberly Carver, Brett Erwin, Zach Erwin, Quent Erwin, Kael Zoglmann, Emily Zoglmann Hunt, Shawn Zoglmann, Jay Post, Lindsey Post, Cassie Post Drake, Rebecca Jeffries, Joshua Jeffries, Teesha Bell, Doug Bell; her 26 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one infant son, Carl Edward Post; her husband, Dr. Elmer C Post; her parents, Drs. Vern and Mildred Newcomb; three brothers, Bryon Newcomb, Dr. Edwin Newcomb, and Dr. James Newcomb.
Joyce is a wonderfully fitting name for our beloved mother who was so full of joy. She was gracious, selfless, and kind. She chose to be happy and positive throughout her life. She had a strong faith and set an incredible example for all of us to try to follow. Joyce will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
A special thank you to the staff of the Bungalows of Nevada and Heartland Hospice for the personalized and caring attention to her during her last years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Michelle Whitlock officiating. A committal service will follow in the Welborn Cemetery, Moundville. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Public Service Announcement from Countywide Disposal
With the holidays approaching, we often get asked ”what can I do at the holidays to thank my trash collection driver and helper?” Here are some ideas- thank you in advance!
The hustle and bustle of the holidays are upon us. As you make your list and check it twice, don’t forget those who serve the community all year long.
The individuals providing curbside service and sanitation services are always there when we need them. Rain or shine, oppressive heat or frigid cold, we count on them to collect our waste by the truckload. Let’s show them some appreciation this holiday season!
Here are some small ways you can say “Thanks!” for all they do.
Leave a Tip. Say “Thank you” and “Happy Holidays” with a gift card. Whether it’s for a coffee shop, local business or your favorite restaurant, your garbage man will certainly appreciate the treat.
Say Thanks. Say thank you in person or with a card. You can even download and print the card yourself or, if you have small children, have them help make one. No matter what form it comes in, your garbage man will appreciate being appreciated.
Prepare a treat. Bottled water or yummy snacks, like fresh cookies, are another great and simple gift. You can hand them to your garbage man yourself or leave them out with a note or sign. Either way, it’s sure to brighten their day. Wouldn’t you love to show up to work and get a treat?
However you do it, be sure to thank the individuals who keep our neighborhoods clean.
Thank you for helping Countywide Disposal thank our team who make the “Trash Magically disappear” every week!

Barbara Ann (King) Friedly was born in Lebanon, Missouri to Glynn and Sylva (Kathner) King on January 23, 1939. She went to Heaven with music in the background and family by her side in the early morning hours of December 1, 2022, in her Memory Care apartment at The Gardens at Barry Road. She was 83 years old.
Barbara finished eight grades in seven years at High Prairie School in rural Laclede County. She was the Valedictorian of the Lebanon High School Class of 1956 at the age of 17. She continued her education at the University of Missouri at Columbia, Missouri graduating with a major in Math and a minor in Music in 1960.
In February 1959, Barbara married L.D. Friedly. They were married for nearly 63 years and were blessed with five children, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. During their married life, Barbara and L.D. lived in the Missouri towns of Columbia, Stover, Halfway, Mexico, Paris, Butler, and Kansas City.
While raising their family, and planting a huge garden, Barbara taught piano lessons, served as a 4-H leader, was active in Extension Club and Music Club. She was a substitute teacher in the Butler schools, and also taught GED classes there. She played the organ for the First Baptist Church in Paris and for Immanuel Baptist Church in Butler. She was also active in the Community Choir in Butler.
She taught Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School classes. She was a partner in the Lighthouse Christian Bookstore in Butler for over 25 years and served as Treasurer for the local Relay for Life. She also volunteered her time to support The Missouri Baptist Children’s Home with their annual Apple Festival near Peculiar, Missouri. Barbara was an avid quilter and a member of the Chat and Sew quilting group in Archie, Missouri. She was an excellent pianist, singer, cook, and accomplished seamstress. She liked butterflies, birds, and chocolate, but not necessarily in that order.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Glynn and Sylva King, and her brother, Samuel King. She is survived by her husband, L.D. Friedly (Kansas City, MO – formerly of Butler); her children, Lynn (Keith) Utley – Chesterfield, MO, Nancy (Bill) Hall – Coweta, OK, Lora (James) Rodenberg – Parkville, MO, Cinda (Danny) O’Keefe – Marietta, GA, and Dale (Michelle) Friedly – Dunwoody, GA; a sister, Mary Hayden – Versailles, MO; grandchildren Erin Hall, Natalie Hall, Christina Utley, Hannah Utley, Daniel O’Keefe, and Garrett Friedly; along with one great granddaughter, Rachael O’Keefe; as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s baby grand piano now resides in the Music Room at the Butler Elementary School. To further share the music that was dear to her heart, the family suggests contributions in her honor to the Butler Elementary School Music Program, in care of Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, 1301 N. Orange Street, Butler, MO 64730.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to C. J. Ballard, Sonita Lloyd, Janet Dirks, and the staff of Heartland Hospice, whose care allowed her to stay in their home in Butler as long as possible. We would also like to thank the wonderful Memory Care staff of The Gardens at Barry Road, along with the special team she had with Ascend Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
