Obituary - Anna Mae Carrel

Anna Mae Carrel, 98, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS. Anna was born November 4, 1924 in Mound City, KS to Fred M. and Mary C. (Hollis) Smith. 

She was united in marriage to Charles E. Trosper on January 14, 1946 and he preceded her in death on January 27, 1968. She married Vernon Carrel in 1973 and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1993.

Anna was raised in the Mound City, KS area and attended school there. She lived most of her adult life in Nevada. Anna worked as a seamstress at Nelly Don in Nevada for seven years. She enjoyed making quilts, woodworking, embroidery, and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Maude Thorne (Bill), Lone Jack, MO, and Gloria Cole, Nevada, MO; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Fyock, Olathe, KS; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eddie Trosper; one brother, Robert Smith; one sister, Josephine Johnson; a step-daughter Patsy Franklin, and step-son Lawrence Carrel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Melanie Elsky officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, MO. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested in her memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and United States Marshals Service are continuing to follow up on leads, however no additional information is available at this time. 

The Marshals Service has issued a $5,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of each fugitive.

Rain Moves In Thursday

After one more day of dry weather, expect Thursday to be soggy, with rain moving in early Thursday morning, lasting through most of the day. 

Rain should move out by Friday, leaving the end of the week mostly dry. Showers and thunderstorms return to the area on Monday, into Tuesday next week!

Obituary - Marilyn Jane (Hawks) Skinner

Marilyn Jane Skinner, age 68, passed away in her home in the early hours of December 4, 2022. She was courageous and inspiring in her nearly ten-month battle with cancer. Marilyn was born on December 22, 1953, in Nevada, MO.

She grew up in Metz, MO with her parents and three sisters. She was a tomboy as a child and enjoyed playing basketball as a teenager. She always had a passion for horses as well as horror and science fiction movies.

Marilyn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and any role she occupied in someone’s life. She loved big and would go out of her way to spoil her loved ones. She made her family a top priority and did her best to attend all events over the years.

Marilyn met her husband Lewis Skinner in October of 1991. They fell in love quickly and were married on March 19, 1992. They were happily married for 30 beautiful years.

Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her husband Lewis Skinner of Claremore, OK; her children Patti (husband Brent) of Claremore, OK, Paul (wife Philana) of Richards, MO, and Clyda (husband Derek) of Bristow, OK; her grandchildren BJ of Claremore, OK, Todd (wife Megan) of Oologah, OK, Lynerica (Will) of Butler, MO, Waylon (wife Hayley) of Owasso, OK, Ravyn (Ethan) of Sapulpa, OK, Colt of Rich Hill, MO, Giles (wife Kelsey) of Beaufort, SC, Destinee of Altus, OK, Jeanette of Rich Hill, MO, Shelby of Sapulpa, OK, Cheyenne of Stockton, MO, Cayleb of Bristow, OK, Haylyn of Richards, MO, Jaycob of Bristow, OK, and Hack of Richards, MO; her great grandchildren Jaden, Kaylee, Remi, Brantley, Hudson, Journey, Kaison, Mila, Kinsley, Milo, and Wyatt; her sisters Jeanie (husband Presley) of Rich Hill, MO, Judy (husband Jim) of Rich Hill, MO, and Janet (husband Trent) of Rich Hill, MO; and her numerous nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Clyde & Norma Hawks, cousin Diane Isaacson, and her great grandson Hudson Whorton.

Obituary - Dorothy L. Sheppard

Dorothy L. Sheppard, age 94, went peacefully in her sleep at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living, Spring Hill, KS on November 30, 2022. Even though we will surely miss her, we know she is in the loving hands of our Lord. 

Funeral Services will be held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, MO at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, with visitation from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. 

Burial to follow in the Landaker Cemetery in Lowry City, MO. Memorial contributions can be made to the Landaker Cemetery or the Truman Lake Cancer Fund and can be left in the care of the funeral home.

Dorothy was born to William and Veta (Callahan) McLerran on March 13, 1928 at her home in Brownington, MO. She taught school for two years in her early years, assisted her first husband in his car business and also was the church secretary for the Clinton Christian Church for many years; a job which she dearly loved.

Dorothy married Buel H. Bunch on May 1, 1948; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just a few days before his death on May 25, 1998. Dorothy was married to Thoburn (Toby) Sheppard on October 25, 2001, and he preceded her in death in 2015.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Anita (Bill) Bloodgood, Spring Hill, KS and son, David (Debbie) Bunch of Tightwad, MO, three grandsons, Brandon Bloodgood, Jason Bloodgood, Brett (Michelle) Bloodgood, granddaughter, Nicole Bunch and eight great grandchildren, Mackenzy Bloodgood, Gage Bloodgood, Chase Bloodgood, Jeremy Bloodgood, Mason Bloodgood, Addison Bloodgood, Emery Bloodgood and Noah Hamilton.

She is also survived by her sister, Treva Hermance, Colorado, and brother, Bill (Peggy) McLerran, Ozark, MO. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Floyd McLerran.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Congratulations to Tyler Vance of Nevada for his selection to attend the Air Force JROTC Flight Academy program next summer.

The Flight Academy is an approximately 8-week summer aviation training program, conducted at partnering universities nationwide. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Private Pilot’s Certification.

The Flight Academy is intended to inspire and encourage high school youth toward aviation careers.

The scholarship program is a collaborative effort between the aerospace industry and the Air Force to address a national pilot shortage. This scholarship is valued at $25,000!
