Travis Lee Sage slipped away peacefully surrounded by family on December 28, 2022 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, two days before his 40th birthday. He was born the fourth child of Harold and Ruth Sage on December 30, 1982 in Clinton, Missouri. He attended Hudson Elementary and Appleton City High School before attending Ozarks Technical College in Springfield Missouri.

He began working at a young age for Leonard Bartz where he learned pig farming and repair. While residing in Springfield he worked at Meeks Lumber and Dyke Lumber, where he became known by his friends as Cletus. Upon returning to Appleton City he worked at Zink Motor Company until he started his own business, Sage Fencing. He spent much of his time working on cars, farm equipment, and with animals. He was never more than a phone call away if anyone had a need. Somehow he always knew how to fix whatever needed fixing. His work can be seen all over the countryside in fences and corrals.

Travis was united in marriage to Abby Marie Stout on June 3, 2006. They had two children together; Everlee Louise Sage, born September 19, 2011 and Arlo Hugh Sage, born October 4, 2013. The family home was remodeled with the blood, sweat, and tears of the family and many friends who helped to work on it.

Travis loved animals, he had cows, pigs, dogs, and cats. He began a hog operation that he shared with his children. He had his father-in-law teach him how to process meat and set up what the kids referred to as his “meat box” to process fresh meat from the farm. He loved to camp and float, even buying enough canoes for the whole family to go together. He would often spearhead the grill on family camping trips. He often worked behind the scenes in the community and would volunteer to help work on the baseball and tennis court fences, dunk tank, and the Appleton City Carousel. Travis was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Appleton City, baptized on December 2, 1990, and he served as a trustee for many years.

He is survived by his wife Abby and children Everlee and Arlo, of the home; parents Harold and Ruth Sage of Appleton City; siblings: Lori (Tim) Bartz of Appleton City, Jamie (Mike) Oberly of Appleton City, and Dustin (Dana) Sage of Springfield; parents-in-law Dick and Ronda Stout of Appleton City; sisters-in-law Sarah (Colby) Bourland of Appleton City and Baily Stout (Nathan O’Farrell) of Montrose. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Megan (Dray) Schenker, Cody (Ally) Oberly, Clayson (Brittani) Bartz, Wyatt (Tylar) Oberly, Mikaila Field, Shelby Bartz, Isabella Bartz, Macey Sage, Taylor Bourland, Kenzie Bourland, Molly Sage, and Harlee Bourland. Travis will be greatly missed by many family and friends.

Two Pittsburg Kansas women arrested for burglaries

Thursday, December 29, 2022
Released by Lt. Rebekah Lynch

On Thursday morning, December 29, 2022, at approximately 4:14 a.m., officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1700 block of South Walnut Street for a burglary in progress. The reporting party called 911 and reported two subjects were stealing tires from his carport. Officers quickly arrived in the area and began searching for the suspects. The reporting party had surveillance cameras and was able to show officers the video footage of the crime as it had just occurred; as well as, video footage from a previous theft of items from the same carport the previous night. Video surveillance footage from December 28, 2022 showed suspects driving a Buick passenger car stealing items from the carport.

At approximately 4:24 a.m. on December 29, 2022, an officer spotted a 2000 Buick Regal occupied by two females near the area. The females were identified as 43-year old Carrie Kay Devore, of Pittsburg, and 41-year-old Kandice Jean Devore, of Pittsburg. During the investigation, officers determined the vehicle driven by Carrie Devore, appeared to be the same vehicle observed in the video surveillance footage of the theft from December 28, 2022. In the video footage observed from the incident which had just occurred, it was determined the clothing worn by the suspects seen stealing tires from inside the carport, matched the clothing worn by Carrie and Kandice Devore.

Carrie Devore and Kandice Devore were placed under arrest, without incident, and transported to the Crawford County Jail. They were both booked in on one count of burglary of a non-dwelling and misdemeanor theft. Both are being held without bond at this time. The tires stolen from the victim were located on a nearby property and returned to the owner.

Anyone having information related to this incident, or other incidents, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at 620-231-1700, or at our tip line, 620-231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
