Warm & Windy Monday!

Could we make a run at the record today? Our current forecast high for KC is 2 degrees shy of the record. Either way it's going to be a toasty day. Check out these facts on other toasty Feb. 6th days.

Two Bucks!

Rantoul, KS – This past weekend Franklin County Kansas Game Warden Ryan Twellmann responded to a farm near Rantoul, after a landowner reported seeing two whitetail deer with their antlers locked together.

Game Warden Twellmann found the entangled bucks near the original reported location.

One buck was still alive, but the other buck had unfortunately already died. Using a shotgun and a slug round, Game Warden Twellmann was able to separate the antlers and free the buck from the entanglement.

The buck immediately ran off unharmed and Game Warden Twellmann issued a salvage tag to the landowner for the dead buck.

Adrian Fire Department receives lifetime service award

In January the Adrian Fire Department received a truly honorable award from the Adrian Chamber of Commerce! We cannot express how grateful we are to not only the Chamber, but also the community that we are allowed to serve.

The fire department is what it is today because of the volunteers that jump at the opportunity to help, as well as the citizens that support us in our effort to serve Adrian and its surrounding areas.

We would like to thank the Adrian Chamber of Commerce and the community of Adrian for this gracious award.

Elevated Fire Danger today and tomorrow

Elevated Fire Danger expected today and Monday as a result of warm, dry, and gusty conditions.

Elevated Fire Danger means that weather and land conditions are favorable for erratic fire spread, if a fire does start.

Happy National Weather Person's Day!

Happy National Weather Person’s Day to all of our friends in the weather enterprise! It takes the dedication of 1000s to collect, analyze, & communicate weather info; many of whom are volunteers.

What a fine day for it! Highs reach into the upper 50s; some may see 60°. Enjoy!

Miami Student of the Month for January is Piper Wiley

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools.

Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria.

Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks.”

The Miami Student of the Month for January is Piper Wiley, a senior. Piper is the daughter of Chad and Angie Wiley. In school she is in Volleyball, Softball, FBLA, and National Honor Society. Outside of school she is into shopping, working, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. Piper states, “Your future is only as good as the work you put into it.” She plans to go to the University of Missouri Columbia majoring in Dietetics/Nutrition. Staff at Miami say, “Piper shows strong leadership by her example in the classroom and out. She is kind to all and very positive in her interactions.”
