Light snow possible Friday morning

Rain chances will increase today with a transition to snow, or rain-snow mix, by Fri morning. Snowfall amounts will be highly dependent on temperatures and a change of ±1-2° will result in higher or lower amounts. Better chances for accumulating snowfall will be north of Hwy 50.

Obituary - Paula K. Keil

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE for Paula will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri, on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 12 Noon - 2:00 p.m.

Family will receive guests during the celebration of life. No formal funeral services will take place.

Paula’s visitation and funeral will take place at Floral Hills Funeral Home on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. MEMORIAL Ellett Memorial Foundation

Paula Kay Keil, 69, of Independence Missouri, passed away on February 25th, 2023, in St Joseph, MO. She was born on February 1st, 1954, to Paul and Carolyn Whiteman residing in Raytown, MO.

Paula was married to Fredrick Keil on November 1st, 1983, and preceded her in death on March 29, 1999.

She is survived by her two children, Heidi and Michael Keil; one sister, Pamela Kemper, and four grandchildren Addison, Braxton, Landon, and Alexis. In addition, she has loving cousins, nieces/nephews as well as 4 stepsisters.

Paula served faithfully as a nurse practitioner for over 30 years in the Kansas City area holding a Doctorate Degree in Family Practice. She ended her career as a Hospice Nurse working in St. Joseph, MO.

Adrian VFW Fundraiser Breakfast set for March 4th

The annual Fund raiser breakfast for the VFW and the Lt Garrison Veteran's Memorial is Saturday March 4th at Frontier Village from 6am-10am. All you can eat for $8.00. Eggs, Sausage, B&G, pancakes, drinks and coffee.

The money raised is used to maintain and upgrade the Memorial and for veteran's assistance. 

Many thanks to the WMAT MA ladies who generously donate the building rental and all the labor to prepare and serve this delicious meal.
 
We will be selling gun raffle tickets and raffling pie again.


Recreational Marijuana Sale Tax set to be on April 4th ballot for the city of Butler

 On April 4, 2023 you will be asked by the City of Butler, MO to impose a 3% city sales tax on the sale of adult use marijuana. This is authorized by Article XIV, Section 2.6(5) of the Missouri Constitution. In order for this to be approved, a simple majority of voters is required. 

Should the city impose the 3% local sales tax, the sales tax will be collected by the Department of Revenue like other sales taxes imposed by the city.

The Official ballot language:
Proposition A
Shall the City of Butler, Missouri impose a city sales tax of Three Percent (3%) on the sales of adult use marijuana sold at retail?
• YES
• NO

If you are in favor of the question, place an “X” in the box opposite “YES”. If you are opposed to the question, place an “X” in the box opposite “NO”.

Anyone missing this backpack in Belton

This pink and green backpack was recovered off of N. Scott in our city last night. Our investigations unit would like to return it to the rightful owner. There was also a small ceramic dog located inside the backpack.

Obituary - Michael Douglas Louthain

Michael Douglas Louthain, 73, of Raymore, MO passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Belton Regional Medical Center in Belton, MO. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Burial in Oakland Cemetery, Harrisonville, MO.

Michael was born November 25, 1949 to Lawrence and Vivian (Thompson) Louthain in Kansas City, MO. He attended Belton High School in Belton, MO. Michael loved coffee and it was rare to see him without a cup somewhere, and he enjoyed music of all kinds, especially being able to dance with a good upbeat song. He will be most remembered though for his love of people, he never met a stranger and would say Hi to everyone passing by him.

Michael is preceded in death by parents. He is survived by his sister, Linda (Tom) Looney; his brother, David Louthain; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces.

Death Investigation In Clinton

Clinton Police Officers were dispatched to a private residence in the 300 Block of East Jefferson St on Monday, 2/28/2023.

A domestic assault had been reported and upon Officer's arrival, a female victim was contacted who indicated that the suspect had exited the residence just before hearing a gunshot from the vicinity of the back yard of the residence. 

Officers then located the body of a 29 year old male with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

While this incident remains under investigation, it has been determined that there is no threat of danger to the community at large.

The deceased's identity is not being released for the time being to provide opportunity for proper family notifications.
