Archie teen seriously injured in Harrisonville motorcycle crash

On March 5th around 1:10 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle crash on S. Brookhart Drive just north of S. Commercial Street in Harrisonville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred as the northbound 2023 Kawasaki Z900 Motorcycle driven by 19 year old Zane R. Swan of Archie, Missouri was passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed when he struck the 1994 Chevrolet driven by 74 year old Marvin R. Meads of Harrisonville as it was making a left hand turn.

Zane R. Swan sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

City of Butler and Countywide Disposal Trash Amnesty Day

On the first Tuesday of each month Countywide Disposal will hold an Amnesty Day inside the city limits of Butler that allows ONE bulk item to be picked up per household at no additional charge.

Bulk items are defined as: excess household trash, mattresses, box springs, bicycles, large toys, car seats, grills (no propane tanks or hot ashes), furniture fixtures (no fluorescent lights), sofas, chairs, tables, etc.

If you have more than one bulk item or do not want to wait until Amnesty Day, please call the Countywide office for a quote to get it picked up.

Obituary - Robert A. Stevens

Robert A. Stevens, age 57, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.

Robert was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 20, 1965 to Carl E. Stevens and Betty Jeanne (Compton) Stevens. After high school, Robert created a career for himself in the automotive industry painting and repairing. Robert loved cars. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved building and racing stock cars on dirt tracks as well as quarter mile drag races. Of course, Robert was also a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty Stevens; and sister, Ellen Smith.

He is survived by his brother, Gregory Stephens; sister, Linda Gray (Larry); three nephews, Michael Butters, Steven Hammond, and Reva Butters; and nieces, Heather Butters, Angelique Hartline, Kelly DuCharme, and Sheila Watzlawick.

Obituary - Larry Ray Thompson

Larry Ray Thompson, born March, 30, 1949, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on February 28, 2023. Larry was born in Kansas City, MO to Wilbur Ray and Laura Ann Thompson. His parents preceded Larry in death. 

He leaves behind his wife, Irma Robbins Thompson and son, David Thompson. Larry was the oldest sibling to Kathy Reed and Susan Thompson, both of Topeka. Larry grew up in rural Lenexa graduating from Shawnee Mission West 1967.

Larry graduated from Kansas State University in 1971 with a degree in chemistry. Larry worked for Bayer Corp as a Lead Industrial Hygienist until he retired in 2004 after almost 35 years of service, he was one of the first to receive his Certified Industrial Hygienist {CIH}. Larry also head the Emergency Response Team at Bayer. He was volunteer sheriff under Marvin Stites. He volunteered as a fire fighter in Linn County, KS. Larry and Irma moved to rural Linn County in 1985, living there over 30 Years. They had recently moved to Paola, KS.

Larry’s joy was being with his family. He had many nieces and nephews that he loved having fun with. Larry also loved being outdoors, hunting, and riding his horse, Rascal.

There will be no visitation or funeral. Please give donations to Ducks Unlimited in lieu of flowers.

Butler man arrested on drug charges

On March 4th around 12:05 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 39 year old Brian A. Clapp of Butler.

Mr. Clapp was arrested for 1.) Felony possession of a controlled substance - Methamphetamines 2.) Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brian A. Clapp was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he was later cited with tickets and released.
