Smokers Friendly broken into overnight in Butler
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning the Butler Police Department was dispatched to a alarm call at the Smokers Friendly Store located at 1009 B W. Ft. Scott Street.
When officers arrived on scene they found that the front door of the building had been shattered and entry was made. After a search of the area the police was unable to find the suspect.
Smokers Friendly does have several cameras that are being reviewed at this time. We was advised that the store will open today at regular time 10:00 a.m.

Vehicle fire in rural Butler
The Butler Fire Department along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies are on scene of a vehicle fire on CR 1003 (South Main Street) and CR 504 in rural south Butler.
The front end of the truck is said to be fully engulfed in flames at this time. Please use caution if you must travel in this area and always move over for emergency lights.

UTV accident sends Clinton man to the hospital
On Saturday March 25th around 4:55 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a UTV accident on CR NE 850 just east of CR CE 231 in rural Henry County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2022 Polaris Razor driven by 59 year old Christopher L. Bushman of Clinton, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned before striking a fence.
Christopher L. Bushman was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Elmer LeRoy Epperson, age 81 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Butler Center. He was born July 29, 1941 to James Olin and Effie Grace Sutton Epperson in Akron, Indiana.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Beulah Mae Epperson of Butler, Missouri; three children, Debra Epperson, Russell Epperson and wife Vickie and Kenny Epperson and wife Tracy all of Butler, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Albert and wife Christina, Tyler and wife Savannah, Justin and wife Kayla, Sharron, Katie and husband Trent, and Dalton and fiancé Jillian; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Leroy Welch of Butler, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Kay Epperson of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Loretta Welch; and a brother, Joe Epperson.

Standoff ends in arrest in Cass County
At approximately 2:10 pm yesterday, March 24th, Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 32000 Nash Road in reference to a welfare check.
Upon arrival deputies were met by an armed male subject who pointed a weapon at them. A perimeter was established while the Tactical Response Team was deployed.

After several hours of tense talks, hostage negotiators with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were able to successfully convince the suspect to exit the residence without escalating the situation.
The male subject was transported to the Cass County Jail while awaiting formal charges. No injuries were reported from the other occupants of the residence.
On 03-25-23, a Cass County Judge issued James Kenedy (41) from Harrisonville Missouri, a warrant for 4th Degree Assault. He is currently being housed in the Cass County Jail with a bond of $5,000.00 bond, 10% Cash Only.
The male subject was transported to the Cass County Jail while awaiting formal charges. No injuries were reported from the other occupants of the residence.

Obituary - Nikki Long
Eva Nichole Long(Nikki), age 50 of Drexel, MO passed away on Friday, March 24th, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Nikki was born September 10th, 1972 in Harrisonville, MO. The daughter of Billy Nichols, and Mary Charleen (Wilson) Nichols. She moved to Drexel when she was 3 months old and went on to graduate from Drexel in 1991. Nikki was united in marriage to John(Chuck) Long on September 8th, 1990.
Nikki worked as a cook and also worked grooming and taking care of animals for many years with some dear friends. Nikki enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was a beloved Mimi and was so happy to have that title. She was an avid collector of everything Mickey Mouse and she loved working outside with her flowers.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Father Ward, Eva Ward and Jim Wilson and Homer and Wanetta Nichols, as well as her nephew Coty Nichols. Nikki was survived by her husband, Chuck Long, her two sons Nicholas and wife Courtney Long, Aaron and wife Keisha Long. Her grandchildren lit up her world. She had two grandsons Logan Hatch and John Long. And many nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
The love Nikki gave will never let her be forgotten.
A visitation will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm Saturday, also at the chapel. Burial will take place in Jingo Cemetery.
