Gusty winds and a general warming trend (after a chilly Saturday) will be the story for the next couple days.

Early next week, the focus will become more strong thunderstorms, Monday and Tuesday.

We would like to congratulate Butler Freshman Baseball Player Jake Chandler on hitting his first high school career homerun last night in a 7-6 victory over the Liberal Bulldogs.

Butler Bandits Softball 12U gets close victory!

The Butler Bandits 12U took the lead late in the game in an 8-7 victory over CC B’s 12U on Saturday. CC B’s 12U trailed 6-5 in the top of the fourth inning when Jayda M tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Bandits 12U built a four-run lead in the third inning and then held off CC B’s 12U's charge. CC B’s 12U scored five runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Shae B, a double by Treya P, and a triple by Jayda.

Bandits 12U captured the lead in the first inning when Emalee D drew a walk, scoring one run.

Braelynn I was credited with the victory for Bandits 12U. Braelynn lasted three and a third innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs while striking out six.

Brylea L led things off in the pitcher's circle for CC B’s 12U. Brylea allowed five hits and eight runs over three and a third innings, striking out seven.

Braelynn went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Bandits 12U in hits. Mylee B led Bandits 12U with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 19 stolen bases.

One killed, One seriously injured in Vernon County crash

On Friday evening March 31st around 10:10 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a head on crash on Missouri 54 Highway around 1.5 miles east of Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the eastbound 2010 Nissan Altima driven by 58 year old Gordon S. Buttorff of Walker, Missouri crossed the centerline of traffic and struck the 2019 Jeep Renegade driven by 21 year old Samuel O. Spring of El Dorado Springs, Missouri head on.

Gordon S. Buttorff was pronounced dead at the scene of this crash by the Vernon County Coroners Office. He was transported to Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Samuel O. Spring sustained serious injuries and he was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and both were towed from the scene of this accident by Garwood's Wrecker Service of Nevada. This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 19th fatality of the year 2023.

Miller breaks Rich Hill School record in javelin!

Despite the strong winds last night at the Adrian track meet we had some athletes put up some great times, heights, and distances.

To top the evening off, sophomore, Maysi Miller broke the Rich Hill school record in the javelin! The record was held by Taylor Coonce with a distance of 101' 11". 

Maysi was able to throw 106’ 11" in her first season of throwing the javelin! Congratulations Maysi!!

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative Crews are continuing to progress in making repairs and restoring power. 

Outage numbers remain around 240 without power as new outages occur just as other are being restored. Crews will continue working throughout the night until everyone is restored.

Obituary - Mildred Cantrell

Mildred Cantrell, age 94, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Adair Village in Clinton, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday March 31, 2023 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Deepwater, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to Golden Valley Hospice or Adair Village and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Mildred L. Cantrell was born on April 11, 1928 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to George D. Stewart and Lilly (Hoyt) Stewart. On July 8, 1946 Mildred married John L. Cantrell and from this union three children were born Shirley, Patsy and Norman. Mildred was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband John. Survivors include her children Norman Cantrell of Enid, Oklahoma, Patsy (Larry) Wheeler of Windsor, Missouri and Shirley (Bill) Minich of Clinton, Missouri, 5 grandchildren; Liane Hager, Bradley Minich, Brian Minich, Eric Cantrell, and Ethan Cantrell, and 12 great-grandchildren all girls.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Miami FFA Senior Soils Team State Bound

The Miami FFA would like to congratulate the Soils team for receiving 2nd high team at the FFA Central District competition held at UCM on Tuesday. The Central District has over 50 schools competing for a chance to compete at the University of Missouri.

Congratulations to the following students, Senior Nick Dusenbury for receiving 2nd high individual and gold, Senior Kolin Tidman for receiving 3rd high individual and gold, and Senior Kenny Downs for also receiving the gold award. 

They will be traveling to Columbia, MO on April 20th and 21st to compete in the State FFA contest. We wish them all the best!

We would also like to congratulate Sophomore Shelby Fairbairn for earning 15th high individual and gold, and Sophomore Brennah Filtingberger for earning 16th high individual and gold in the Central District Poultry Evaluation and Grading Contest.
