78 year old Pleasant Hill woman arrested for bank robbery

On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at approximately 3:20 pm, Pleasant Hill Officers were dispatched to Goppert Financial Bank, 2100 N. Hwy 7, Pleasant Hill, in reference to a robbery in progress.

While responding to the scene, officers were provided with a description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle. 

Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle traveling south on Hwy 7 near the area of Timber Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and took the female driver into custody.

The suspect, a 78-year-old Pleasant Hill woman, was taken into custody without incident and is in custody pending formal charges. A search warrant was served on the suspect vehicle where evidence linking the woman to the bank robbery was located.

Chief Wright commends the officers for their heads-up police work and to the bank staff for following their safety protocols and providing a great suspect/vehicle description.

At this time there is no further information to be released. The suspect’s identity will be released once charges are issued.

Way to go Madison and Benjamin

Congratulations to Madison Wilson, Appleton City High School and Benjamin Tucker, Clinton High School for being selected to attend the Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (CYCLE) in Jefferson City.

They were selected as finalists in Osage Valley's Youth Tour Essay contest and will attend this action-filled three day event in July.

The conference provides high school students from across the state of Missouri opportunities to learn first-hand about state government, the cooperative form of business and being a leader.


Obituary - John Henry Litle

John Henry Litle age 90 of Garden City, Missouri formerly of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at his home surrounded with family and love.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Antioch Southern Baptist Church, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 7, 2023 from 6:00p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Antioch Southern Baptist Church Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative would like congratulations to Case Melzer, Harrisonville High School and Izetta Person, Rich Hill R-IV School District for being selected to attend the Washington DC Youth Tour. 

Case and Izetta were selected as finalists in Osage Valley's Youth Tour Essay Contest and will spend a week touring monuments and museums, visiting legislators, and hearing from some great motivational speakers while meeting other Youth Tour students from across Missouri and the US.


Obituary - Colleen Fern Wisner

Colleen Fern Wisner was born June 17, 1986, and passed away April 2, 2023, doing what she loved – driving a tractor on a beautiful spring day. Throughout her 36 years on this earth, she was loved beyond measure by her family and friends. She fiercely loved her two sons, Hunter and Kyler, who were the most important people in her life.

Born to Curtis L. and Lucinda F. (Meloy) Wisner, Colleen was the first grandchild of John F. and Luella F. (Gardner) Meloy and the only girl grandchild of Pawle and Juanita (Smith) Wisner.

Colleen attended Osceola Public Schools, graduating in 2004. She was FFA Chapter President, active in NHS, and school play, and a standout on the basketball team. She went on to earn her American Farmer degree in 2005.

Colleen went to State Fair Community College for her Associate’s degree in Custom Application. Her college jobs were at a livestock auction and in trailer sales/repairs.

She made a career out of her love for farming and agriculture. She started working at Cook’s Tractor in 2016, and through hard work and ingenuity rose to her current position as a Rebuild Shop Manager.

Previously, she had worked at Producers Livestock Auction. She also drove a school bus for Apple Bus Company and trained as a butcher at Countryside Market.

Colleen started and built the TeamKids program at Vista Baptist Church, working tirelessly to develop the program into a thriving part of the church’s ministry and outreach. She also served there as VBS Director. She was baptized in 2010 and attended Vista Baptist Church much of her life.

She leaves behind her sons, Hunter and Kyler, parents Curtis and Lucinda, brother and wife Dan and Shelby, nieces Lydia Rose, and Lyla Fern, nephew Truman Daniel, grandparents John F. and Luella F. Meloy, aunts and uncles Regina and Mark Brownlee, Kevin and Sharon Wisner, Mark and Julie Meloy, Christy and Dave Beck, cousins, friends, and co-workers.

Shooting early this morning in Pittsburg Kansas

On Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023, at approximately 3:13 AM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Kansas Police Department, as well as first responders from the Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County EMS, were called to the 1500 block of North Smelter Street, in Pittsburg, in reference to an individual who had been shot. 

The 23-year-old male victim reported he was shot by a known associate of his in the middle of the street in that area.

The 23-year-old victim was taken by EMS to Ascension Via Christi and later transferred to a hospital in Missouri for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Officers are continuing to follow up with leads on this incident.

Obituary - Ashley Powell

Ashley Natasha Powell was a loving and loyal mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She left this world on April 4th, 2023 at her home in Clinton, Missouri. She was surrounded by family after a long, hard fought battle against brain cancer.

She was born to Neal and Gloria Miller on August 25, 1986 in St. Joseph, MO. Raised in Clinton, MO Ashley graduated from Clinton High School and met the love of her life Travis while working on and completing her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Central Missouri. Together Travis and Ashley had 3 beautiful boys, Graham (11), Lincoln (6), and Sullivan (2).

Ashley lived for her children. She was fiercely protective of those she cared about and loved spending time with her family in small intimate gatherings. Ashley was extremely passionate about her work as the Deputy Director of Revenue for Compass Health and adored her work family, the Dream Team. Ashley was very competitive and loved playing games late into the night. She also loved to travel with family. Family meant everything to her.

She leaves behind her husband Travis Powell, children Graham, Lincoln, and Sullivan Powell, father Neal (Janet) Miller, mother Gloria (Donni) Miller, sister Kristin (AJ) Huttenlocker; nieces Rowan, Ridley and Alba Huttenlocker, brothers Aadin (Abby) Miller and Kieran (Mikayla) Kuck; nephew Henry Kuck, and maternal grandfather George Given. Ashley is preceded in death by her maternal grandmothers Irma Given and Joyce Miller, and her paternal Grandfather Gilbert “Rex” Miller.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM also at the church. Burial to follow in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri.
