Two seriously injured in Benton County rollover accident

On Friday April 7th around 7:00 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Benton County along with Benton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route E at Swisher Road in rural Benton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the northbound 2005 GMC 1500 driven by 25 year old Thomas A. Swaitek of Clinton, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway, vehicle returned to the roadway and began to overturn. The vehicle continued rolling off the right side of the roadway and into a corn field ejecting both occupants. 

Thomas A. Swaitek along with a passenger in his vehicle a 16 year old female juvenile from Windsor, Missouri both sustained serious injuries and both were flown by air ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri for treatment.

The GMC truck was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by Tolliver's Tow of Cole Camp, Missouri.

MFA gas pumps changing locations in Butler

MFA Oil gas pumps changing locations in Butler...From 101 N. Orange Street to Elks Drive.

Soon the gas pumps at MFA on Orange Street next to the Butler License Office will have a new home! 

The new location of these pumps will be on Elks Drive right before the Ward Paper Box and Frozen Food Express entrance on the east side of the roadway. 

This new location will hopefully provide more room for larger vehicles to get in and get gas. Mid America Live News will update this story when new information is made available to us.

Obituary - Kay Wilkerson

Hazel Kay Wilkerson, age 81, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023. She was born on September 13, 1941 in Pleasanton, Kansas the daughter of Oral Austin and Iva Hazel(Day) Carpenter. She graduated from Pleasanton High School.

Kay was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, William Wilkerson, on August 8, 1959. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Harley Carpenter.

Kay is survived by her husband, Bill, two daughters, Elaine O'Dell and husband Mickey, and Stacy Wilkerson Case, a son Austin Case, three grandchildren, Derek O'Dell and wife Nancy, and their children, Vincent and Miguel, Jay O'Dell, and Dylan O'Dell.

Funeral Service will be held 1 pm Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Monday April 10 at the Pleasanton Chapel.

Obituary - Richard L. “Rick” Nation

Richard L. “Rick” Nation, age 54, resident of Fort Scott, Kansas died Wednesday April 5, 2023, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas after a lengthy battle with cancer. Rick was born in Fort Scott, Kansas to LD and Ruth Nation. 

He attended grade school at Mound City and Miami R-1 and graduated from Jayhawk Linn in 1987. He married Lisa Weddle in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 7th, 1997. Rick was an owner/operator of his dump truck for 15 years and then went to work for Union Pacific Railroad until the time of his passing. He was a man of many talents and could build anything from the ground up. We were truly blessed with a wonderful man that gave us the world.

Survivors of the home are wife Lisa, daughters Isabella, and Leah, and best furry companion Annie; parents LD and Ruth Nation, Butler Missouri; brothers Brent (Billie) of Hereford, Texas, Craig (Nikki) of Rich Hill, Missouri; sister Brenda (Travis) Anders of Adrian, Missouri; a daughter Kayla Poole, Pleasanton, Kansas; mother-in-law, Shirley (Tim) Goltra, father-in-Law, Ray (Connie) Weddle; bonus brother Steven (Stana) Weddle; sister and brother in-law Tessa (Adam) Feagins all of Fort Scott, Kansas. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Les and Dorothy Nation, maternal grandparents Edward and Margaret Higgins, and brother in-law Larry Lee Shirley.

Rev. Paul Rooks will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 11th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Linnville Cemetery, Mound City, KS. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.

We would like to congratulate Karla Mullis, RN on being chosen the Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City's April Employee of the Month!

Karla is a dedicated, professional RN and she helps out with any issues that arise, willing to work extra and fill in when needed.

Karla is a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt to nieces and nephews and loves her fur babies. She has been at Ellett since July of 2018 and we are blessed to have her. Once again, congrats Karla!!

16 year old female from Garden City seriously injured in Cass County rollover accident

On Friday evening April 7th around 6:52 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on B Highway west of Bramblin Road near Dayton, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2002 Oldsmobile Bravado driven by a 16 juvenile female from Garden City, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway, overturned striking a fence.

The female sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Patricia “Patti” Ann Vowels, age 64 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, April 6, 2023 at her home. She was born June 27, 1958 to Vernon Troy and Gwendolyn Roberta Crayton Dines in Appleton City, Missouri.

Patti is survived by her husband, Stephen Vowels of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Krystal Vowels and Laura Vowels both of Butler, Missouri; five grandchildren, Shannasie Vowels, Brekken Allgeier, Lejla Allgeier, Dominick Cantrell and Hailee Heavener; her mother, Gwendolyn Dines of Appleton City, Missouri; two brothers, Larry Dines of Appleton City, Missouri and Lynn Dines and wife Loretta of Harrisonville, Missouri; a sister, Gayla Powell and husband Terry of Appleton City, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Julie Bitner and husband Scott of Butler, Missouri; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Dines; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Margie Vowels.
