Leo W. Thomas, 80, of Climax Springs, Missouri, formerly of Harrisonville, MO, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Friday, May 5, 2023, with a visitation starting at noon, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. 

Burial in Belton Cemetery, Belton, MO. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association. A complete obituary will be added when it becomes available.

Obituary - Donald “Soaky” James Soukup

Donald “Soaky” James Soukup, age 71, of Nevada, MO died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Truman Lake Manor, in Lowry City, MO.

Donald was born November 5, 1951, to Adolph James and Gracie Laverne (Howard) Soukup. He was a high school graduate and worked in building and concrete construction.

Donald is survived by two daughters, Cody Martin and her husband, John of Nevada, MO and Betty Malcom Payne and her husband Mike of Joplin, MO. He has one grandson, Tony ­Whitney. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Stanley and two sisters, Frances and JoAnn.

Family and friends will gather at the home of Eric and Staci Anderson, on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm to celebrate Donald’s life.

Dolores Jannie Nolan, age 87 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born October 1, 1935 to Henry William and Jennie Camilla Michelson Smith in Chicago, Illinois.

Dolores is survived by five children, George Hildman of Adrian, Missouri, David Hildman and husband Ron Altman of Polk City, Florida, Deborah Leinweber and husband Ken of Wauzeka, Wisconsin, Jacqueline Nolan of Prairie Du Chein, Wisconsin and Sherri Graumenz of New Munster, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack Nolan on December 5, 2005.

Miami R-1 student of the month Abby Talley

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. 

Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. 

Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks.”

The Miami Student of the Month for March is Abby Talley, a senior. Abby is the daughter of Pam and JD Talley. In school she is in Basketball, Volleyball, FFA, and FBLA/Yearbook. Outside of school she works at Studio Perks and hangs with friends. Abby says, “Just be yourself and don’t let people push you around or walk all over you. Stand up for yourself!”

Abby plans to attend Pittsburg State University majoring in Pre Med with a minor in Biology. Miami staff states, “Abby is a hard working student with a wonderful sense of humor. She makes teaching fun.”


Obituary - Jane Lemmer

Jane Lemmer, 73, of Harrisonville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at her home. 

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.

Nevada man arrested on Barton County warrant

On April 27th around 1:25 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County arrested 41 year old Bobby J. Bourland of Nevada, Missouri.

Mr. Bourland was arrested for 1.) Felony Barton County Sheriff's Office Warrant - Harrassment 2.) No Seat belt.

Bobby J. Bourland was booked into the Vernon County Jail in Nevada and he is currently being held on no bond.
