Urich man killed in Bates County motorcycle crash

On May 5, 2023 at approximately 6:45 PM a single-vehicle (motorcycle) accident occurred on State Route MM at NE County Road 14243 in northeastern Bates County. 

The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and transferred to a trauma facility in Kansas City, where he later died resultant to this crash.

The decedent is identified as Ronald L. Nash, 58. Thoughts and prayers to all family and friends.

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Announces May Employee of the Month

Clinton, MO. – We are pleased to announce that Laura Lunceford is the May Employee of the Month.

Lunceford is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Medical/Surgical department.

Coworkers who nominated Lunceford say that they enjoy working with her because of her positive attitude and commitment to her patients, team and GVMH. 

Lunceford goes out of her way to provide exceptional care to her patients, always treating them like family. Her peers also stated that if their loved ones were in the hospital, they would want them to be in Lunceford’s care.

As the Employee of the Month, Lunceford received a GVMH gift and her name will be engraved on a plaque to be permanently displayed in the hospital. She is also one of 12 finalists for the 2023-2024 Employee of the Year award.


Vehicle fire north of Rich Hill

At 5:10 p.m. Rich Hill Fire was dispatched to I-49 mile marker 124 for a car on fire.

4 firefighter and 3 trucks responded to this call. Just as RHFD got the fire out a second call came out for a car on fire at mile marker 122.

2 firefighters and 2 trucks left the scene at mile marker 124 and responded to mile marker 122. 

Luckily the vehicle was not on fire at mile marker 122.

Johnston moving on to sectional track

We would to congratulate Butler Senior Josie Johnston!!! She is moving on to sectionals in all 3 track events she competes in! 

Today in Adrian she finished 4th in javelin, 4th in shot put and 1st in the discus with a new school record 37.77 meters! 

She currently broke her own record and a Adrian track venue record!! Josie is the daughter of Becky and Jeff Johnston! 

We're all very proud of you Josie!! Best of luck at sectionals!

Obituary - Donald Gene McNiel

Donald Gene McNiel, age 81, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Peculiar Cemetery, 13007 E. Cemetery Rd., Peculiar, Missouri 64078.

Donald was born Salinas, California on March 22, 1942 to Wilford D. McNiel and Margie (Pouncy) McNiel. After graduating from high school, Donald continued his education. He honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1961 to 1965. He was joined in marriage with his wife, Billie (Burris) in 1961. In life, Donald was a man with strong Christian faith and was a member along with Billie at Church of Christ in Warsaw, Missouri. In previous years, he was a dedicated beekeeper. Donald loved fishing, golfing, and gardening.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Margie McNiel; and three brothers, Dean, Danny, and Darrel McNiel.

Here to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-two years, Billie McNiel; two sons, Donald McNiel II and Craig McNiel (Michelle); brother, Dennis McNiel (Susan); three grandchildren, Taylor McNiel (Desirae), Amber McNiel, and Courtney Hayslette (Kevin); and several great grandchildren.

Car show today in Clinton

The Clinton Technical School Car Show is this Saturday, May 6 at CTS (602 S. 5th St. Clinton, MO). Registration the day of the show is 8 am to 11 am and costs $40. 

There are 10 show classes with prizes in each one as well as a plaque made by CTS students. Judging begins at 12 and awards will be announced by 2 pm.

Attending as a spectator is free. Perryman's Kickin' Chicken will be here as well as other drinks and desserts. All proceeds will benefit SkillsUSA students. We look forward to seeing you there.
