The Bates County Fair board has been cleaning up the fairgrounds and getting things ready for the 2023 Bates County Fair! 

The Theme for this years fair is "The Tradition Lives On".

Below you can find a list of events as well as ways to sign up for events. We hope everyone comes out and enjoys the Fair from July 8th- July 16th.

WEATHER ALERT****

A strong storm will impact portions of Northwestern Bates County Through 245Pm. Radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Archie or near Adrian, moving southwest at 20mph

Winds of 40 mph and half inch hail. Wind ccould knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecure objects. Minor damage ot outdoor objects is possible. 

Locations, Adrian, Archie Amsterdam and Merwin.

Warsaw man injured after motorcycle crash in Benton County

On Monday June 5th around 10:54 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Benton County along with Benton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a motorcycle accident on Route B south of Route W in rural Benton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2003 Harley Davidson Road Glide driven by 44 year old Scott E. Crawford of Warsaw, Missouri struck a deer in the roadway, ejecting the rider.

Scott E. Crawford sustained moderate injuries and he was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment.

Obituary - L.D. Friedly

Funeral services for L.D. Friedly of Kansas City, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation prior to services 10 - 11 a.m. Friday at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler with Military Honors. Contributions to Butler Senior Center. Online condolences www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Leroy Dale (L.D.) Friedly was born in Stover, Missouri on December 16, 1932 to Lewis Conrad and Myrtle (Miller) Friedly. He passed away on June 1, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri with family at his side. He was 90 years old.

L.D. completed his first eight grades at High Prairie School in rural Morgan County. He graduated from Stover High School in Stover, Missouri.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an early detection radar Corporal stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, he utilized the GI Bill to further his education at the University of Missouri in Columbia. While completing his degree in Agricultural Education, L.D. met and married Barbara King.

His teaching career took them to Halfway, Missouri and Mexico, Missouri. After teaching, L.D. joined the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service, moving his family to Paris, Missouri, and subsequently to Butler, Missouri.

After retiring from the Conservation Service, he did substitute teaching in Adrian, Butler, and Miami High Schools. He later worked part-time at Corner Hardware in Butler.

L.D. was a deacon and active member of Immanuel Baptist Church for most of his life in Butler. He and Barbara also attended Happy Hill Church of God.

He was a Gideon and served for a time on the Butler Ministerial Alliance. He also served on boards for the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, Bates County Memorial Hospital, and Butler Rural Housing. Throughout his life L.D. enjoyed farming, gardening, and reading.

L.D. was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; his parents L.C. and Myrtle Friedly, and all of his siblings: Russell Friedly, Helen Browning, Elva Friedly, Claude Friedly, and Ross Friedly.

He is survived by his children Lynn Utley, Nancy Hall, Lora Rodenberg, Cinda O’Keefe, and Dale Friedly, along with their respective families.

The family is grateful to the Assisted Living staff at The Gardens at Barry Road and Ascend Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for L.D.

Osceola teen killed in one vehicle rollover accident

On Sunday June 4th around 9:24 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 82 Highway around two mile west of Roscoe, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 1989 Mercedes Benz driven by 18 year old Austin N. Weymuth of Osceola, Missouri ran off the roadway and overturned.

Mr. Weymuth was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and he was transported to Sheldon Funeral Home.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 51st fatality accident of the year 2023.
