Fort Scott home destroyed following fire Wednesday

According to the Fort Scott Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire at Wall and Barbee and reported heavy smoke.

When the fire crews arrived on scene, they found the home 50 percent involved with fire.

Fire crews made a quick entry in the front to locate a possible tenant but they were unable to advance. It was later discovered that the tenant had already evacuated prior to firefighters' arrival.

Crews then switched to a defensive attack. With the wind gusting over 25 miles per hour and the fire load of the home, it took fire crews over an hour to get the blaze under control.

The home is a total loss and the cause is currently being investigated by FSFD fire investigators.

The Fort Scott Fire Department was assisted by Scott Township Fire, Fort Scott Police Department, Bourbon County EMS, Public Works, and Bourbon County Sheriff's Office.
