Obituary - Melvin Adelbert Fizell

Melvin Adelbert Fizell, age 79 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, July 28, 2023 at his home. He was born June 19, 1944 to Melvin LeRoy and Lillian Adelade Poindexter Fizell in Jackson County, Missouri.
Melvin is survived by three daughters, Cinda Glass of Butler, Missouri, Rhonda Howard-Ralston and Mary Wolfe both of Belton, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Fizell of Butler, Missouri.
Obituary - Ricky Lynn Hampton
Rick was born July 19,1956 in Kennett, Missouri to John W Hampton and Erma Mae (Mitchell) Hampton. On July 26, 1998, Rick married Debbie Jean Mason in Lamar, Missouri.
Rick was self-employed as a contractor. He loved working in his yard and received "Yard of the Month" several times from the Barton County Master Gardner's Club. Rick was also known to be a "tailgate philosopher" and could talk to anyone about anything at any given time.
He served in the United States Marine Corp until he was honorably discharged on May 22, 1980 and then served in the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged on April 22, 1986.
Survivors include his wife Debbie; three sons, Eric Hampton of California, Brian (Jenni) Duncan and Kelly Duncan, all of Lamar; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rebecca Hampton of Kissee Mills, Missouri and Sandra Minor of Cortland, Illinois.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Hampton and Ron Hampton.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 ~ 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, MO.
Contributions are suggested and made payable to the American Cancer Society in care of Daniel Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life for "Mr. A"
"Mr. A" was a 34yr teacher at Butler High School in the Industrial Arts, a very active member of the Methodist Church, many community Clubs and sang with "The Overtones".
The family will graciously be donating one of Mr. A's creations, a carved wooden church to the museum which will also be dedicated at this celebration.
There will be light refreshment provided. Friends and family are welcome to come to visit and share stories throughout the afternoon.
Obituary - Paul Taylor Leimkuehler
A Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. With a brief service following the visitation at 7:00 p.m.. Cremation with Inurnment at Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Marshall, Missouri at a later date.

City of Drexel accepting bid for Street Repair
All bids must be in a sealed envelope and marked Street Repair they must be returned to the City Clerk and received by August 11 at 12:00 pm. Opening for bid proposal submissions will be August 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
The Bids will then be submitted to the Board of Alderman for the August 14, 2023 Regular Meeting at 6:00 pm. The City of Drexel has the right to refuse any and all bids.

Excessive Heat Warning
Another hot and muggy day is expected today with high temperatures near 100 and peak afternoon heat index values near 110. The heat may continue into Saturday for areas along and south of the Missouri River but this will be dependent upon where storms are during the day.
