Two dead, One seriously injured in Linn County Kansas fatality crash

On July 29th around 4:56 p.m. the Kansas State Highway Patrol along with Deputies from the Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle head on crash at W. 200th Road just west of Jackson Road or around 8 miles south of Mound City.

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a westbound 2011 Ford Edge driven by 62-year-old Dennis N. Mayes of Mapleton, Kansas crossed the center line of traffic and struck a eastbound 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 21-year-old Clinton Barker of Centerville, Kansas head on.

Dennis N. Mayes along with a passenger in his vehicle 59 year old Elizabeth Mayes of Fort Scott, Kansas were both killed in this accident. Clinton Barker sustained serious injuries and he was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Obituary - Douglas Dyer

Douglas Dyer, age 75, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at his home in Deepwater, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton, Missouri with visitation from 1:00-2:00PM prior to the service. 

Burial to follow in the Parks Chapel Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the GVMH Cancer Treatment Center and can be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Doug was born on June 29th 1948 in Holden, Missouri to Nolan and Lois Dyer. He graduated from Holden High School in 1966, and was a carpet layer for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nolan and Lois Dyer, Brother Darrell Dyer

Survivors include his Wife Debbie Dyer, his sons Derek Dyer of Warrensburg, MO, Stepson Vince Rouse of Denver, CO., his sister Brenda and Husband Jerry Atkinson of Kingsville, MO., his brother Delbert Dyer and wife Kim of Centerview, MO., his sister Anita Lamb of Kingsville, MO., his sister Wanda Antrim of Lees Summit, MO., his brother David Dyer of Centerview, MO., his sister-in-law Kim and husband Shannon Hills of Clinton, MO., sister-in-law Barbie and husband Steven Austin of Chilhowee, MO., brother-in-law Adam and Tamara Mergener of Midlothian, TX., brother -in-law David and wife Shelley Mergener of Columbia, MO., sister-in-law Diana and husband Kenny Duffield of Georgia, sister -in-law Vanessa and husband Jerry Whitney of Georgia, sister-in-law Christina and Jack Early of Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Patricia Van Tasell

Patricia Van Tasell, 72 of Butler, Missouri passed away July 4, 2023, surrounded by family at Butler Center in Butler. Cremation, with a visitation from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial services will follow at 3:00 pm Saturday, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the KC Pet Project. Patricia A. Van Tasell was born March 11, 1951, in Henderson Kentucky, the daughter of William Raymond Raley and Bernice Ella Raley (Todd). She attended Desoto High School in Desoto, Kansas until 11th grade. She married young and lived a life full of adventure. Patricia would go wherever her heart would call her, including South Carolina with a van, a dog and some hot pants. She was always a free spirit and the life of the party. She knew how to turn heads with a personality as vibrant as the sun. She was never at a loss for husbands or friends. A cold beer, a back country road and good music was all that it took to keep her happy. Patricia was a talented lady. She could dance, sing and create any craft piece you would challenge her to. If ever you couldn’t find her, look near the water. She was either in it or sitting on the bank fishing.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her sister Vicky Bolen and husband Mike of Wellsville, Kansas, Larry Raley and wife Pam of Eudora, Kansas, daughter April Feris and her husband, Danny, of Amoret. Daughter Tiffany Horne of Vasaar, Kansas. Son Paul Powell and wife Vicky of Independence, Kansas. Twelve grandchildren, Bridgette Miller, Katie Hein, Lindsey Conn, Abby Bontrager, Bella Feris, Keirsten Lindsey, Scottie Enegren, Damon Glayzer, Dakota Brannan, Christopher Crooks, Travis Crooks, and Anthony Hartpence. Four Nieces, Amy Balmaz, Michelle Bolen, Crystal Moyer, Ashley Bolen. One Nephew, Bill Raley. Ten Great grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews.


Way to go Roseann!

Harrisonville High School science teacher Roseann Hoffman took part in the Burns and McDonnell Educators Summit recently. 

The one-day STEM workshop for 6-12th grade teachers included a guest speaker, panel discussion with various people/jobs in the company and participation in hands-on demonstrations with various devices in virtual reality.
