Obituary - John Michael Bryant

John Michael Bryant, 61, passed away at his rural St. Clair County home on July 28, 2023, with family at his side.

John was born April 29, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John Roger Bryant and JoAnne Elaine (Hoffman) Bryant. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. He served in the US Marines for two years. He worked in residential construction, and as a line cook / waiter in different restaurants over the years. He was proud to have worked with some prestigious chefs as well. John loved rock and roll music and played the guitar himself.

John was a traveler. He lived in North Carolina and multiple areas around Kansas City. He never really cared much about physical positions or possessions but had everything that was important to him. John loved working in the outdoors, he was never much of an office worker kind of individual. John loved his family more than he could ever express in words. John MAY not have had a wife and kids, but he touched many lives during his journey through life.

John is survived by his sisters, Susan Keister, and Patricia “Trish” (Vince) Peyton; 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 6 great nieces, and 3 great nephews; as well as many other family and friends.

He was preceded by his parents, John Roger and JoAnne Elaine Bryant; brother in law, Roy Keister; and niece, Ashley.

Challenges for Rural Hospitals Discussed with 125th District Rep. Dane Diehl

Challenges for Rural Hospitals Discussed with Rep. Dane Diehl

Missouri State Representative and Bates County resident Dane Diehl (District 125th) accepted an invitation to visit with management team members at Bates County Memorial Hospital this Wednesday.

During a tour of the hospital, the state representative listened to staff members’ concerns and questions about the possibility of aid or support at the state level for funding, as well as policy changes that would help our rural hospital thrive and continue to offer top quality services to our community.

Many thanks to Dane Diehl for taking the time to visit BCMH, for listening with empathy and sharing insight and encouragement.

Regarding Willie...

As you may be aware, we play a game of hiding Willie Wiredhand, famous rural electrification icon in the News-Shopper each week and the first person to find him wins a prize. However, this week, due to super dark printing he was hidden better than usual. This photo notes where he is in a photo on page 8. All things considered, we decided to award the prize to the first person who notified us they had poured over the pages for hours and was unable to determine his whereabouts. All said, he'll be much more visible next week!

You're invited

Join us for music, praise and a message from Linda Sturdevant at the gazebo on the Butler square at 7 pm, August 4, 2023. She will speak on "The coming of the Lord, are you ready?" as well as live music and more. Free event, the public is highly encouraged to attend.
