Phillip K. Kelley age 91 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Friday, August 18, 2023 at Research Medical Center Kansas City, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with internment with Military Honors at Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be made to Son's of The American Revolution, or First Christian Church Memorial Fund Harrisonville, Missouri and send in care of Dickey Funeral Home, PO Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.

One dead after shooting at Pittsburg Kansas bar

On Sunday morning, August 20, 2023, at approximately 1:15 AM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department, along with first responder units from Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County EMS, were dispatched to 202 N. Locust St., in Pittsburg, in reference to a report of a shooting incident. 

Upon arrival, units found that an adult male had been shot outside of a local bar, and had subsequently died as a result of his injuries.
The identity of the victim will be released after next of kin have been notified.

This incident is currently under investigation at this time, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting. Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident, and believe it may have stemmed from an argument.

Update: 16 year old Butler female seriously injured in rollover accident east of Passaic

On Sunday August 20th around 9:55 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS, Butler Fire Department and the Adrian Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on D Highway around 2 miles east of Passaic.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when eastbound 2003 Ford Mustang driven by a 16 year old female from Butler crossed the center of the roadway, travelled off the right side, impacting the ground before becoming airborne and overturning.

The female sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by Life Flight to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Bates County Sheriff's Posse Family Fun Day is in the books!

Another annual Bates County Sheriff's Posse Family Fun Day is in the books as we celebrated Saturday August 19th! 

Thank you to everyone who came out, braved the heat and enjoyed the day with our volunteer posse and your Bates County Sheriff’s Office!

Special thanks to the following folks who helped make our day such a success: 

Adrian Fire who provided multiple trucks for the kids to check out, filled the dunk tank for us and provided lots of water fun for the kids (and maybe the Sheriff too!)

Amsterdam Fire who provided a truck and interacted with the kids and allowed them to check out their truck. 

Butler Police Department who provided multiple cars and officers for the event and Sgt. Barr who volunteered to be in the dunk tank!

Bates County EMS for bringing out their ambulance and crew for the kids

Bates County Memorial Hospital for providing the much needed mist tent!

Sonic of Butler who came out and handed out coupons to the kids for free drinks and ice cream!

Larry Cumpton Family Farms and Chris Hanson with Iron Mule Trucking for providing wagon rides for the families.

City of Butler for the use of the park and shelter.

And last but not least, thank you to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office Posse and all of the Bates County Deputies who came out, put in the work and made sure the day was a success for all of the kids!

City of Butler hiring full-time codes officer

The City of Butler is accepting applications for a full-time Codes Officer. Salary range is $35,000 to $45,000 per year depending upon qualifications. Employer paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance and the MO LAGERS Retirement system.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and one or more years in the construction field and/or experience as a Codes Officer.

Two vehicle accident this morning in Butler

Sunday slow down... 

Sunday traffic was slowed shortly after 7 a.m. this morning as emergency crews responded to a two vehicle crash on the overpass of 52 W and I-49 in Butler.

A couple of people sustained injures in this accident and were transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital.

Rich Hill woman injured in early morning rollover accident in Vernon County

On Sunday August 20th around 3:50 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County EMS and Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident in the southbound lanes of I-49 around 6 miles north of Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2002 Toyota Sequoia driven by 22 year old Katlyn M. Dunfield of Rich Hill, Missouri ran off the roadway, struck several trees before overturning.

Katlyn M. Dunfield sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.
