Obituary - Walter Thomas West

Walter Thomas West, age 67, of Rich Hill, Missouri passed away on August 17, 2023 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was born on February 26, 1956, the son of Walter Waldo and Dolly Elizabeth (McIntire) West.

Tom was a student of Rich Hill High School. He was a logger at several sawmills over his career. In his later years, Tom enjoyed tinkering on his little farm. And on most mornings, you would find him at his brother Allen’s sharing a pot of coffee. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

Tom was united in marriage to Dena Marie Johnson; she preceded him in death on February 18, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Russel and Marie Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Donald Potter, Monte Gilkey, and Frankie Johnson; one grandson, George Michael Corriston.

Tom is survived by his son, Shane West of the home; two daughters, Mandy West and Andrew Gales of St. Louis, Missouri; Brandy and John Corriston of Redfield, Kansas; three grandchildren, Tiffany and Gage Beerbower of Redfield, Kansas; Korie Moore and Astro Gales of St. Louis, Missouri; three brothers, Allen West of Rich Hill, Missouri; Bill and Sandy West of Horton, Missouri; Bob and Cindy West of Horton, Missouri; five sisters, Betty and Danny Johnson of Pittsburg, Missouri; Pauline Gilkey and Geno Marks of Olathe, Kansas; Mary West, Dollie and Dwayne Burris, and Laura Gilkey, all of Rich Hill, Missouri.

Tom will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Heuser Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 am to service time. Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the family to help offset funeral expenses.

Obituary - Verna Lynn Solomon

Verna Lynn Solomon (Henry), 67, of Drexel, Missouri, passed away August 14th, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was born on April 18th, 1956, to Vernon W.C. and Dorothy Louise Henry in Kansas City, Missouri and was the oldest of four children. Verna was a daddy’s girl and was proud to be his namesake. She took her job as big sister seriously. From babysitting, cheering them on, and always being a constant in their lives.

Verna was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School in 1974. She loved the English language and often wrote poems and limericks. Although she was shy in school, she had many friends and loved to spend time with them.

She married Art Solomon on September 29th, 1979. They were blessed with two daughters, Amber Lynne and Ashley Jean, and created a loving, tight-knit family. Art and Verna spent a wonderful 44 years together.

Her whole life Verna was full of personality, spunk, and creativity, which helped make her an excellent homemaker, wife, sister, daughter and above all, a mother. She was always her daughters’ biggest cheerleader.

She loved her family with her whole heart and never went long without letting them know how precious they were to her. She was fiercely loyal and protective. She was beyond selfless, always putting those she loved first.

Verna was an avid animal lover who had many pets throughout her life. She was known for spoiling her dogs and treated them as if they were a part of the family. It was a dream of hers to one day own a rescue for dogs.

In later years, she held the title of “Mimi” in highest regard.

Mimi’s favorite pastimes included spoiling her grandbabies, listening to music (often loudly, so she could feel it in her bones), reading, and traveling.

Verna is survived by her husband Art of Drexel, Missouri; Daughters, Amber Solomon (Gary) of Archie, Missouri and Ashley Barney (Matt) of Gardner, Kansas; three grandchildren, Corbin Barney, Riley Barney, Kaylin Hall; siblings Guy Henry of Lee Summit, Missouri and MaryBeth Jennings of Butler, Missouri.

Private Family Memorial Service will be held.

Wesley “Wes” Rane Nieder, age 60 of Amsterdam, Missouri died Sunday, August 20, 2023 at his home. He was born August 13, 1963 to Elvin Eugene and Tina Lorene King Nieder in Butler, Missouri.

Wes is survived by his wife, Pam Nieder of Amsterdam, Missouri; a daughter, Jennifer Erickson and husband Mitchell of Amoret, Missouri; two grandchildren, Liam and Gabriella Erickson; and two brothers, Alan Nieder and wife Jackie and Les Nieder and wife Marcia all of Amsterdam, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents.
