Pump station work continues at Schell-Osage Conservation Area

SCHELL-OSAGE UPDATE: Work continues on the new pump station at Schell-Osage Conservation Area.

Crews are currently building a cofferdam in the river so construction can begin on the intake structure.

The contractor is also working to excavate the area where the pump station foundation will be constructed.


Obituary - Deborah “Debbi” Kay Yokley

Deborah “Debbi” Kay Yokley, passed away unexpectedly at her home, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 68. She was born January 7, 1955, in Emporia, KS to Marion George and Helen Marjorie (Albin) Richardson. 

Debbi was a home maker and had previously worked at the Nevada State Hospital. She liked to watch Joel Olsteen on TV. She also loved to babysit, play cards, crocheting, as well as Ms. Pacman.

Debbi is survived by two daughters; Amy Shaffer and her husband Rhyan, Butler, MO and Glenda Piatt and her husband Eddie, Nevada, MO; one brother, Donald George “Pete” Richardson, Emporia, KS; two sisters, Sue Arnold, Emporia, KS and Shirley Cook, Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Conner Piatt, Mason, Piatt, Elyshia Sneed, Tony Shaffer, Tyler Shaffer, Jeremy Shaffer, and Justin Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Tayler, Annabell, Victoria, Zadie, Oakley and Isabella. She was preceded by her parents, three sisters, Carol Mejia, Diane Tencyck, and Linda Potter; two grandchildren, Lloyd Huff and Timothy Shaffer.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Ferry Funeral Home with burial to follow in Deerfield Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Obituary - Tami Lu Ann Carter

Tami Lu Ann Carter, age 62, of Warsaw, Missouri, went to be with our Lord on August 18, 2023 at her home. She was born on November 3, 1960 in York, Nebraska to George and Bonnie Davis.

Tami had a long career with the Midland Police Department in Midland, Texas as an Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief. She would move to Blue Springs, Missouri in 1999 where she worked for Lincare for 15 years. She would make her home in Warsaw, Missouri in 2015. Tami's passions were crafts, gardening and flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Carter, two sons, Johnathan Wayne Patrick and Christoper Lee Carter and his wife Sarah Carter, her mother, Bonnie Lawrence, step daughters, Brittany Otto and her husband Trapper and Catherine Slyter, 6 grandchildren, Owen Carter, Brynley May Johnson, Colton Carter, Aaron Garule, Kyli Otto and Taylan Otto, a brother, Jeff Davis and his wife Jan, many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Charlie Brown.

The family will be holding a private ceremony at a later date

Bates County Sheriff's Office warns of scam

The Bates County Sheriffs Office has been made aware of a new scam in our area. Scammers are calling residents claiming to be with Bates County Memorial Hospital and attempting to collect money for bills and doctors that do not exist.

Please be cautious when receiving phone calls such as this. If it doesn’t seem right, always contact the hospital or business direct and ask about the request. Scammers are always looking for new ways to gain money and personal information.

They may ask you to confirm your date of birth or other private information such as social security numbers and banking information. Never give this information over the phone.

School threat at Prairie View School in Linn County Kansas

On August 24, 2023, at approximately 12:30pm the Linn County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a former student of Prairie View USD #362 made a threat toward the Prairie View School District on social media. Law Enforcement responded to the threat; Prairie View locked down per protocol and notified parents of the lockdown by their notification system.

The subject who made the threat was never on campus and was contained a short time later at their home in Miami County. The lockdown was lifted. The subject is currently in custody.

In Memory of Corey Turner

In August of 2016, on just the 4th day of his high school career , 14-year-old Corey Turner was walking home from school when he was tragically killed by another student driver.

As a result the Harrisonville Cares Coalition was formed to identify and address areas of concern with vehicular and pedestrian traffic movements throughout the City of Harrisonville.

It has been seven years since Corey passed, the coalition vows to never forget. Today, in Corey's honor the Harrisonville Cares Coalition along with the Harrisonville Police Department encourages safe driving at all times but especially in and around schools.

Obituary - Rhonda G. Staton

Rhonda G. Staton, 63, passed away Sunday August 20th 2023. She was born November 24, 1959 in Nevada MO, the daughter of Rolland Henderson and Irene Roby and stepfather Kenneth Wallace.

Rhonda devoted her life to her three boys Galen, Buddie, and Dalas. She loved them so much and would do anything for them. She also loved her cats and to spend time with her sisters and mother and when she had the time enjoyed fishing.

Rhonda was predeceased by her father Rolland, stepfather Kenneth, and brother Billy. She was survived by her mother Irene. Sisters Candy, Jackie, Debbie, Tammy, and Margie. Brothers Kurt and Randy. Sons Galen, Buddie, and Dalas. Grandchildren Aiden, Gunner, Harlow, Kyleigh, Grayson, and Jaxon.

A service of remembrance will be held at 10AM- 12PM Friday, September 1st at 2401 E Mechanic St. Harrisonville, MO 64701. Those who wish to remember Rhonda in a special way may make arrangements in her memory to Dickey’s Funeral Home. 

We ask that any donations be made directly to the funeral home, or go towards her GoFundme to cover remaining medical bills.

Butler man injured in Bates County rollover accident

On Wednesday August 23rd around 7:40 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route O just north of CR SE 1766 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2008 Ford Edge driven by 23 year old Donavon H. Conyers-Ryberg of Butler, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned.

Mr. Ryberg sustained moderate injuries and he was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment. The Ford Edge was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by RB Tow of Butler.
