Obituary - Harold Loyd Gilmore

Harold Loyd Gilmore, age 90, Nevada, MO passed away quietly at his home on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 5:41 a.m.

Harold, the next to youngest of eight children, was born on December 11, 1932, in rural Milo, MO to Reuben A. Gilmore and Hattie M. Fenton Gilmore. He attended grade school in the Sandstone community, two years of high school in Milo, and two years in Nevada where he graduated in 1950.

Harold enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served four years on the Aircraft Carrier USS Princeton during the Korean War, joining three of his brothers who were also serving on the same ship.

After his discharge from the Navy in December 1955 he met the love of his life, Marjorie Attebery in January 1956. Following a short courtship, they were married on July 14, 1956, celebrating their 67th anniversary in July. To this union were born three children; Janet Friar (Dave), Jerry Gilmore (Diane), and Julie Becker (Tony).

Harold was a hard worker and had a varied employment history from over the road semi driver, Foremost Dairy, Town Talk Bread, Horton Construction, to manager of Food Fair Grocery in Mound City, Kansas.

Harold was a member of the Church of Christ in Nevada, attending regularly until his decline in health. He loved his family dearly and will be sadly missed.

He enjoyed hunting quail, turkey, and deer, but his real passion was fishing with his buddies or family. He also was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Harold is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Marge) of the home; daughter, Janet Friar (Dave) of El Dorado Springs, son, Jerry Gilmore (Diane) of Nevada, and daughter, Julie Becker (Tony), also of Nevada; grandchildren, Chadd Friar (Tara), Jason Friar (Tansy), Miranda Underwood (Matt), Kristi Cartwright (Tim), Keri Smith, Kelli Cooper (Richard), Kourtni Russell (K.C.), and Erica Hall; and he also is survived by 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Hattie Gilmore; brothers, George, Roy, Delmar, and Dean; sisters, Ruby Cartwright, Ruth Langston, and Della Price.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Church of Christ in Nevada with Bro. Dick Harris officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo, MO. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Nevada Church of Christ or Fair Haven Children’s Home c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Power Outage In Harrisonville

The City of Harrisonville has been made aware of a power outage affecting several customers throughout town. 

Our crews are actively working to diagnose the situation and make repairs. We will update this post when more information is available.

Two from Drexel injured in early morning crash

On Monday September 4th around 4:00 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County EMS, Bates County Sheriff's Office responded to a one vehicle accident on NW CR 8041 at NW CR 6002 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the northbound 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix drive by 71 year old Donald J. Robinson of Drexel, Missouri traveled through a intersection and off the roadway before hitting some trees and embankment.

Donald J. Robinson sustained minor injuries in this accident and he refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident.  A passenger in the vehicle 52 year old Melissa M. Smith of Drexel, Missouri sustained serious injuries and she was transported Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by RB Towing & Recovery from Butler.

Obituary - Joan Ghere

Joan Ghere, 93 of Butler, Missouri passed away August 29, 2023 at the Homestead of Shawnee in Shawnee, Kansas. 

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). No Visitation. 

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Drowning in Paola Kansas

On Sunday September 3rd around 7:03 p.m. the Paola Kansas Police Department, Paola Fire Department, Miami County EMS, Miami County Kanas Sheriff's Department and Osawatomie Fire/Water rescue was notified of a possible drowning at Lake Miola in Paola.

Shortly after emergency crews arrived on scene they located a 51 year old Hispanic male that had drown. The investigation is still ongoing at this time and the name of the man hasn't been released.

Adrian teen injured in accident east of Adrian

On Sunday September 3rd around 10:25 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and the Adrian Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident at KK Highway and 18 Highway east of Adrian.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 1996 Chevrolet truck driven by 18 year old Michael C. Bridges of Adrian, Missouri failed to yield at the intersection and struck a ditch.

Mr. Bridges sustained moderate injuries and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
