On September 29th, Mrs. Scotten was inducted into the Hendrix College Hall of Honor for both her record as a soccer player and her academic success.

"Originally from Rogers, Arkansas, Shelly Peterson Scotten arrived at Hendrix College after spending her freshman year at Middlebury College. A three-time team captain and two-time Most Valuable Player for the women’s soccer program, she earned All-South Region and All Conference honors after a stellar junior season, and currently ranks fourth in program history for assists per game in a single season after averaging 0.33 assists in 12 games that year.

Her abilities in the classroom matched her abilities on the pitch, as she was a four-time Academic All-Conference selection and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Elementary Education. During her time at Hendrix, Peterson Scotten was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Lambda Theta, and Psi Chi, and served as Sports Editor and Senior Editor for the Troubadour from 1999-2001. She was awarded the Ruby Carroll Hughes Children’s Literature Award (2001) and the Opal P. Middleton Elementary Education Award in 2002.
