Former Butler Teacher Beckham Denied Parole

A parole hearing for convicted sex offender and former Butler teacher Larry Beckham was held in Jefferson City, Missouri Tuesday October 3, 2023.

Prosecutor Hugh C. Jenkins and the victim in this case were present at the hearing. Jenkins and the victim both made statements to the Parole Board voicing their objections to Beckham's release.

Beckham was convicted on two counts in January of 2020 and was sentenced in July of 2020. Judge Brandon Baker sentenced Beckham to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. 

On Count 1, 10 years for 1st Degree Statutory Sodomy and 5 years on Count 2 for the 1st degree child endangerment conviction. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively.

Prosecuting Attorney Hugh C. Jenkins was notified on Thursday that parole was denied. It will be 4 more years before Larry Beckham will be eligible for parole again.

Shooting Investigation in Louisburg Kansas

Today Friday October 6th around 4:31 PM the Miami County Kansas Sheriff’s Office was called to assist the Louisburg Kansas Police Department with a shooting investigation in the area of N 9th and Rockville.

Miami County Kansas Sheriff's Deputies are still actively working the scene with the Louisburg Police Department.

Adrian Blackhawks stay undefeated 41-7 over Crest Ridge

The Adrian Blackhawks hit the road tonight and moved their season record to 7-0 on the season with a 41-7 victory at Crest Ridge,

The Blackhawks will be on the road again next week as they travel to take on the Cole Camp Bluebirds who were defeated tonight

Archie remains undefeated at 7-0

The Archie Whirlwinds hit the road this evening and was able to get a 72-0 win over the Jasper Eagles in 8 man football action tonight.

Archie will look to stay undefeated next week as they will host the Sweet Springs Greyhounds at 7pm.

Butler Bears win thriller on the road in Warsaw

The Butler Bears was able to move to 7-0 on the season with a win over the Warsaw Wildcats tonight and win their 4th straight Ozark Mountain Conference High School Football Championship. 

The Bears led the contest 18-13 at halftime but Warsaw came out in the 2nd half and had a two score lead late in the 4th quarter.

The Bears was able to score on a touchdown pass from Senior QB Dylan Davidson to Sophomore Jake Chandler to make the score 27-24. 

Butler would score again on a touchdown run by Chandler and hold on to win the game 30-27. This was a very hard fought win over a very good Warsaw team tonight. 

Butler will hit the road again next Friday night as the travel to play the Forsyth Panthers (6-1) who won tonight over Strafford 42-28.

BCMH Employee of the month for October

Congratulations are due to Jenne Bennett, RN who has been named Employee of the Month for October. Jenne is a registered nurse working with Dr. James Miller’s team at Nursery Street Family Care Clinic in Butler, Mo.

She has worked for BCMH since 2009. Her coworker who nominated her said, “Jenne is one of the most compassionate RNs that I have met.

She goes above and beyond to make sure all patients are taken care of in a timely manner. Jenne is also a stand-up employee. She is always there and willing to help resolve any issues or lend a hand to another team member.

She helps keep our physicians calm when stress arises. She is a huge asset to our Family Care Clinic Team.” Jenne is a valued employee, and she deserves this recognition.




Obituary - Neal Peterson

Neal DeWayne Peterson, age 77, Mound City, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born on March 5, 1946 in Pleasanton, Kansas the son of Homer Emmett and Thelma McGinnis Peterson. He attended Linville School and graduated from Mound City High School. 

He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Neal was united in marriage to Jean Marie Cowlishaw on June 7, 1969. The number one thing in Neal's life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was talented in many areas of construction. His main area of expertise was in HVAC.

He worked hard and took care of his customers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and tending to his cows. He was preceded in death by his parents. Neal is survived by his wife, Jean, son, Craig Peterson and wife Jennifer, two daughters, Kay Northcutt and husband Dustin, and Christy Graves and husband Douglas, two brothers, Jerry Peterson and wife Velma, and Kelly Peterson and wife Tammy, ten grandchildren, Ryan Northcutt, Bryce Northcutt, Dylan Peterson, Colby Northcutt, Blayne Peterson, Brady Graves, Tyler Darnell, Taylor Chaplin, Shelby Henry, and Kelsey Moore, and fourteen great grandchildren, Neal, Amelia, Olivia, Lane, Gunner, Maxine, Coraline, Harlee, Finlee, Riggens, Logan, Madalynne, Emmerson and Elliot.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Mound City Christian Church. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Friday, October 6 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.
