Obituary - Gertrude “Pearl” Campbell

Memorial services for Pearl Campbell will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Harrisonville, Missouri. 

There will be a gathering of friends and family immediately following the service at the Archie Youth and Community Center, 34800 S. Butcher Road, Archie, Missouri 64725. Gertrude “Pearl” Campbell, age 83 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, November 5, 2023 at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born March 9, 1940 to William Arthur and Edna Pearl Hutton Heaton in Bronson, Kansas.

Pearl, one of seven children, grew up in Blue Mound, Kansas where she attended high school. She moved to Hume in 1959 and eventually ended up moving to Butler in 1972 where she spent the rest of her life. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Campbell on May 12, 1973. Pearl and Bill owned and operated Campbell’s Earth Stove for 32 years until retiring in 2007. Pearl also considered herself a homemaker in which she tended to the day to day operations of the home. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Butler, Missouri and later in Harrisonville, Missouri and was a very beloved member.

Pearl is described as faithful and enjoyed reading her bible. She loved visiting with friends and family. Pearl also enjoyed going on walks when she was able.

Pearl is survived by two sons, Virgil Dean Cannon and Ronald Leon Cannon both of Hume, Missouri; and a sister, Mary Alice Belangy of Topeka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Campbell; two sons, Joey Eugene Daugherty and Darrell Wayne Cannon; and five brothers, William, Richard, Claude, James and John Heaton.

Butler Junior High Wrestling Meet Tonight

The Butler Junior High Wrestling team will host its first meet of the season tonight starting at 5:30 in the Butler gym.

We will welcome wrestlers from Adrian, El Dorado Springs, and Nevada.

Come out and cheer on our boys and girls to their first wins of the season.

Butler man escapes serious injury after rollover accident

On Saturday November 11th around 5:00 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on southbound I-49 at the Business I-49 Ramp.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2003 Hyundai Sonata driven by 18 year old Noah H. Henderson of Butler, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Henderson sustained moderate injuries, however refused medical treatment at the scene.

Kansas City woman injured in Bates County crash

On Sunday November 12th around 12:50 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Adrian Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 145.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2008 Ford driven by 78 year old Linda K. Maichel of Kansas City, Missouri ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a culvert and went airborne coming to rest in the median.

Linda K. Maichel sustained minor injuries and she was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Obituary - Donna June McDowell

Donna June McDowell, 90, of Belton, MO passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023. She was born June 22, 1933 in Long Lane, MO to Adna and Violet (Ford) Metcalf. She was united in marriage with Robert Leroy McDowell on August 22, 1953 and to this union, four children were born.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Robert McDowell; her son, Patrick McDowell; three sisters, Willene Gann, Mary Lou Graves and Margie Metcalf; and two brothers, John Metcalf and Duane Metcalf.

She is survived by three children: Karen Messerli of Lee's Summit, MO, Deborah Broockerd (Larry) of Waldorf, MD and Robin James (Charles) of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren: Krissy Lund (Chris) of Lone Jack, MO, Blake Messerli (Hannah) of Overland Park, KS, Courtney James (Stephen) of Denver, Co, Ashley Esau (Jordan) of Lenexa, KS and Jessica Broockerd, Waldorf, MD; 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Donna loved to travel with her husband, Robert and enjoyed many years at Lake of the Ozarks and other destinations, including winters in the Rio Grande Valley area. Donna attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO before moving to Kansas City to work for Trans World Airlines. She was a supportive partner to Robert over the years as he built several successful businesses. Donna was a very strong and determined woman who served as a great example to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to never give up. She was lovingly known by family and friends as the Energizer Bunny - she just kept on going and going and going. She will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of life visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2023 at Cullen Funeral Home, Inc., 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, MO 64083.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Obituary - Sheila Rhea Wilson

Sheila Rhea Wilson, 54, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, following a lengthy illness. Sheila was born November 29, 1968, in Nevada, MO to Grover and Ruby (Hoover) Judd.

Sheila was raised in Nevada. She attended Metz Schools and graduated from Rich Hill High School Class of 1987. She worked as a pharmacy tech most of her life, including Thomas Pharmacy in Nevada and Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. Sheila was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved to sing and performed in Branson in earlier years. Sheila attended Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include her three children, Brittany Houchin (Kyle, Sr.), Nevada, MO, Trevor Callaghan, Palm Springs, CA, Waylon Wilson (Desiree), Yucca Valley, CA; four grandchildren, Raelyn Houchin, Kyle Houchin, Jr., Cohen Swait-Callaghan, Graceson Wilson; her parents, Grover and Ruby Judd, Nevada, MO; one brother, Daniel Judd (Lorrie), Wellington, KS; and one sister, Sheryl Shepherd, Nevada, MO. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 13, 2023, 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
