The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian. Criteria for this honor is outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection.
Their decision is based on expansion of this criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task can come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks.”
Miami’s November Student of the Month is senior, Alanah Middleton. Her parents are Traci Benbrook and Austin Middleton. Her activities in school include cheerleading and FCCLA. Earlier this fall, Alanah attended the Region 5 FCCLA meeting in Warrensburg at Hudson Hall with other officers and then attended the State Fall Leadership Conference at Tan-Tar-A in Ozark, MO. She also helps with sewing instructions for her teammates. She enjoys work and hanging out with friends.
She plans to attend college for a teaching degree. One of her favorite statements from Vladimir Lenin is: “Learning is never done without errors and defect.”

BCMH Auxiliary Holiday Fundraisers
Auxiliary volunteers of Bates County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) are preparing for several holiday fundraisers coming soon. The Gift Shop, open Monday through Friday, is fully stocked with holiday gifts, and volunteers are preparing for their biggest sale of the year on Tuesday, November 28.
The annual Christmas Sale and Holiday Open House is a one-day event, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Volunteers will serve refreshments and sample foods, and shoppers can draw for a discount on their entire purchase (some exclusions apply).
On December 5, stop by the hospital between 9am and 3pm to purchase edible gifts during the Nutty Bavarian sale. This sale take place in the hospital’s front lobby, just outside of the Gift Shop.
The Auxiliary makes an annual donation to the hospital from their gift shop and fundraising proceeds by purchasing needed equipment or other items that improve the patient experience. Thank you for supporting the fundraising efforts of our Auxiliary and your community hospital.

Butler Junior High Wrestling Tournament Today
Come out and support the Butler Junior High Wrestling Team as they host a 17 team wrestling tournament starting at 9am today!
Butler woman arrested after traffic stop
On Saturday November 18th around 12:31 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 40 year old Kalena E. Taylor of Butler, Missouri.
She was arrested on the following charges 1.) Felony driving while intoxicated -Persistent Offender 2.) Failure to drive on the right half of the roadway 3.) Driving while suspended 4.) Fail to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle displaying emergency lights.
Kalena E. Taylor was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and she was later cited with tickets and released.

Two from Vernon County injured in crash
On Thursday November 16th around 4:50 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 54 Highway around 5 miles west of Deerfield, Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2017 Kenworth T680 driven by 75 year old Clifford W. Decker of Dadeville, Missouri was preparing to turn south onto Route T from 54 Highway, and turned into the path of, and struck an oncoming 1998 Acura RL driven by 44 year old Travis L. Bogart of Milo, Missouri.
Travis L. Bogart was taken by air to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri with serious injuries. A passenger in his vehicle 27 year old Shelby R. Sweat of Nevada, Missouri was taken by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Adrian woman seriously injured in Cass County crash
On Thursday November 16th around 2:55 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies and West Peculiar EMS responded to a one vehicle accident on 255th Street just east of Groh, north of Midway School.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 1999 Chevrolet Blaser driven by 59 year old Jacquelyn K. Kudera of Adrian, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a concrete pillar and creek.
Kudera sustained serious injuries and was transported by West Peculiar EMS to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.
