Thanksgiving Travel Forecast

A few light morning showers will be possible however conditions will be mainly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 40s today. 

Travel conditions for the Thanksgiving holiday looks pretty good around the KC Area. 

The only possible chance for wintry precipitation would be Saturday night into Sunday morning but impacts look minimal at this time.

Breaking News: One dead in motor vehicle accident in Ballard...

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. this morning the Bates County Sheriff's Office along with Bates County EMS, Adrian Fire Department and the Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident at Missouri 18 Highway and BB Highway in Ballard.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident. The name of the person hasn't been released at this time.

Obituary - Carol Joyce Hayden

Carol Joyce Hayden, 86, of Freeman, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at her home in Freeman. Funeral services will be held at 5:00PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Carol was born July 24, 1937 in West Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Benjamin J. and Kathryn Emily (Williams) Binkley. Carol was united in marriage to Carroll Eugene Hayden on August 12, 1959 in Conway, Arkansas. They had lived in Bakersville, MO and Waynesville, Mo before moving to Freeman in 1972.

Carol attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, AR, and earned a Bachelor in Music Education and Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO, earning her Masters Degree in Music Education. She taught vocal music at Cass Midway Schools in Cleveland, MO, where she retired after 25 years of teaching music for students from kindergarten through seniors in high school. She enjoyed gardening and kept the yard and house full of plants year-round. She loved music and felt honored to be asked to sing at her students’ weddings. 

You could find her around the house listening to opera music or other classical music. Christmas was a favorite time of year for her and she always decorated the house and kitchen with garland and lights. After getting a few Santa Clause figures from the family, she soon was collecting them in all sizes and costumes. She was very diplomatic when asked about her favorite color, bible verse, or child she always said she liked them all.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bruce Binkley; and a grandson, Hayden Fairbanks. Carol is survived by her husband, Carroll E. Hayden, Freeman, MO; a son, Carroll E. Hayden Jr., and his wife, Tammy, Freeman, MO; two daughters: Belinda Carol Fairbanks, and her husband, Michael, Temple, TX; and Vanessa Camille Machatta and her husband, Joe, Raymore, MO; five grandsons and their wives: Bradley (Victoria) Fairbanks, Brian (Amanda) Fairbanks, Brandon Eugene (Jordyn) Hayden, Dalton Eugene (Meghan) Hayden, and Carson Eugene Hayden; four great-granddaughters: Amelia Eden Fairbanks, Lauren Rosalie Fairbanks, Sadie Mae Hayden, and Parker Ann Hayden; and many, many students, friends, and family.

Obituary - Karen Kay King

Karen Kay King, 75, of Adrian, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Medicalodge of Butler surrounded by her family. Memorial Visitation will be on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 10:00-11:30 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Croix Hospice.

Karen was born August 26, 1948 to Clifford and Pearl (Brown) Isham in Stilwell, OK. She married Glenn King on April 7, 1978 in Belton, MO. Karen was a homemaker and she stayed busy with her children, they were her world. She loved a clean house and she made sure it stayed that way.

Karen was also very good in the kitchen and is remembered for many tasty dishes and Glenn would brag about her pie crust. She still managed to find time for her favorite tv shows, as well as, reading and doing crossword puzzles. When the Chiefs were playing she made sure she tuned in and would often be on the phone to her sister to talk about the game. Karen loved her family dearly and will be missed by those close to her.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn King; son-in-law, Rodger Cecil; grandson, Eric King; a brother; and a sister. She is survived by her son, Raymond (Gayle) King, of Roseau, MN; her daughter, Brenda Cecil, of Butler, MO; her son, Doug (Meghann) King, of Archie, MO; grandchildren: Amanda King (Nathan Hanson), Julie Ripplinger (Travis), Emma King, and Ethan King; great-grandchildren: Sophie, Edie, Brady, and Layla; brother, Harry Isham; sisters: Carolyn Barker and Betty Isham; and several nieces and nephews.
